Native, Buried at Woodstock
Annie Perkins, wife of Dr. J, J.
Williams, former Slept of Ontario
Hospitals at Woodstock and Hainil-
ton, passed away on Tuesday, October
2, in the Private Pavilion, Toronto
General Hospital, after a long illness.
Born in Gorrie, she was a daughter
of the late James Perkins and Eliza-
beth Dane, She resided here until her
marriage, when she went to live in
Woodstock, later residing in Hamilton
and Toronto.
Surviving besides her husband are
two daughters, Kathleen, wife of Dr.
Goodwin, Toronto, and Nora, wife of
IVfr, John White of Woodstock,
A private funeral service was held
on Wednesday evening at Christ
Church Deer Park, Toronto, conducted
by a former rector, Canon Woodcock,
Rev. J, H, Geoghan, Woodstock and
Rev Hanley Perkins, Meaford, were
in charge of a public service in New
,St Paul's Anglican Church Wood-
stock on Thursday afternoon; She was
laid to rest in the family mausoleum

In spite of rainy weather a large
congregation gathered in the United
Church last Sunday morning to share
in the Sacrament of the Lord's
Supper.

in Macintosh United Church on Sun-
day, October 21, with Dr. Kenneth
Beaton as guest speaker.
A service Of Thanksgiving was held
in the United Church on Sunday,
with Rev, J. H. Martin in charge. The
choir sang a number entitled "Render
Thanks," The sacrament of the
Lord's Supper was also observed at
this service.

week-end guests, Mr. and Mrs. Lorne
Cook of Kitchener and Mrs. Sybil
Cook of Galt.
Miss Evelyn Renwick and Miss
Mary Thornton spent the week-end
with friends at Buffalo.

Mr. Jack Moran underwent an
operation for the removal of his ton-
sils on Saturday morning in Wing-
ham General Hospital.
Mr. Jack Inglis and Leslie Will
returned home in Saturday from a
trip to the Western provinces. They
report terrible weather and littiQ
work.

end with Mr. and Mrs. Arthur

Mr. and Mrs. Howard Nickel and
children of Breslau, spent the week-

visited with their niece, Mrs. N. Hun-

Mrs R. D. Sadler of Staffa, is vis-

a student at Toronto Bible College,
had charge of the service in the Pres-
byterian Church on Sunday after-
noon.
The Pres, Y.P.S. held a social
evening last week. It was in charge
of the social convener, Miss Alice
Dickson, At their annual meeting
held recently the following officers
were elected; President, Alvin Mun-
dell; Vice-Pres., Jean Dickson; Sec.,
Florence Weir; Treas., Isabel Haugh;
Conveners, Bruce Darling, Jimmie
Darling and Alice Dickson.

Mr. and Mrs. McKinney of Orillia,

that Mrs. Richard Jeffrey had bought
a house in Stratford. We regret the
mistake, hut thought the information
was authentic,
Mr. and Mrs. Ben Dawson of Tor-
onto, spent the holiday week-end with
her brother, Mr. James Dielisen and
family,
Mrs. Margaret Johann spent the
past week with her daughter, Mrs,
Wilfred Walker near Belgrave.

Women's Missionary Society
The October meeting of the United
Church Women's Missionary Society
was held at the home of Mrs. Irving
Toner on Thursday evening, October
5th. Miss Margaret Dane was conven-
er of the programme committee,
chapters 4 and 5 of the Study Book
"From Lakes to Northern Lights"
were reviewed in a very interesting
manner. A map of Canada showing
the distribution of home mission out-
/posts across the Dominion was placed
in view of the members. The Mission
Boats were listed in the Labrador
and Newfoundland waters and also
in the Pacific coastal area. Mrs.
Lloyd Hockridge gave a mission stu-
dent's personal account of her work.
Mrs. Watt told the story of the
Sunday School in the homes, of how
new families in the isolated areas re-
ceive their lessons by mail and in
their own homes complete study
courses, This branch of service has
far reaching effects on the lives of
these children so far from church or
Sunday School, Mrs. Irving Toner
gave a vivid picture of life on a Mis-
sion boat as told by the skipper of
the Thomas Crosby IV. Margaret
Dane concluded the study period with
the story of Rev. Peter Kelly, a nat-
ive Haidian Indian from the Queen
Charlotte Islands. A man whose con-
tribution to the life of his people is
an outstanding example of the effect
of the Gospel at work. A delegate to
the Sectional meeting at Union
church was appointed for Friday,
October 12th.

Mrs, Ehvood Barbour was hostess
for the October meeting of the Wo-
men's Institute when 113 Indies were
in attendance. Mrs. Charles McDon-
ald, the vice-president, was In the
chair. The roll call was responded
to with "Ways and Means to improve
our Community" and a donation to
the Wingham Hospital. It was report-
ed that 322 had been realized from
the lunch counter Fall Fair night.
