Some persons write when they're
away from home—and some don't but
a Brookson, Alberta mother has no
complaints about her wandering son,
The son has been gone for 24 years
and has written 25 hundred letters to
his mother, Mrs. W. A. Philpott. This
is more than two letters a week.

You've heard the expression—sit-
ting on a keg of dynamite. A Van-
couver family actually lived on two
kegs of the explosives for twenty-one
years.
Frank Fraser—making alterations
in his basement discovered the dyna-
mite. - 0 -
The world is made up of all sorts
of things, people and signs, it is to
signs we devote our next few stories,
A sign in a Wakefield, Massachu-
setts fruit and vegetable store. "Help
yourself, make your own choice, If
the stuff is too high, pay what it is
worth to you, In God we trust. All
others pay cash."
- 0 -
What a furniture company meant
to say was that it had been opera-
ting under one management for a
long time. The meaning passersby
got was a little different. The sign
read: "12 years without a sale."
- 0 -
Here's one from a Memphis store
which says "I buy Iron and STEAL
for a living,"
Sign in a pet shop window, adver-
tising a cage full of kittens. It reads,
"Homes wanted' We do light MOUSE
work."
Still another sign, This time at an
obsolete single track railroad cross-
ing. The sign reads: "If two trains
approach each other travelling in op-
posite directions, both will stop and
neither will move until the other one
has passed."

The King's illness has brought to
mind again some pleasant memories
of his career as one of the most hard-
working royal personages of modern
times.
During the critical days of world
war two, Canadian soldiers lined up
at a -service club to salute the King
and Queen,
They waited for a word as His
Majesty slowly circled the room.

Then the King fixed his eyes on one
of the soldiers and enquired: "Tell

And during his 1947 tour of South
Africa, the King had a chance to
meet a real autocrat ruler, Chief
Sobhuza Slamini the second, of Swaz-
iland.
The African chief met the King
with his Queen Mother who is sup-
posed to rule the heavens, Before the
British royal party had arrived, the
Queen Mother called for rain and it
rained. Then she ordered sunshine
which burst forth as George the Sixth
and his family arrived.
The King murmured, 'I must tell
mother about this,"
- 0 -
And now to the news about hap-
penings to ordinary folks.
A bartender at Fort Wayne, Ind-
iana ,was boasting to customers about
his brand new baby, his fifth child.
"Weighs nine and a quarter pounds,
and is 22 and one-half inches long."
One of the customers who caught
only the tail end of the description,
piped up, "bass or pike?"
