Canadian Legion Ladies' Auxiliary The Ladies' Auxiliary to the Can- adian Legion, Wingham, held their first meeting of the fall on Wednes- day evening last with a fair attend- ance. Plans were made to hold euchre parties twice a month during the fall and winter months. The first party will be announced in the near future. The president Mrs, Sanderson, is away to Timmins this week attending the convention there, and we will hear her reports at our next meeting. St . Paul'„ G uild The September meeting of St. Paul's Ladies' Guild was held in the parish room of the church on Thurs- day afternoon last with a large at- tendance. The meeting was opened by the president, Mrs. Miller Davis, with all repeating the General Con- fession and the Lord's Prayer. The ,minutes were read and approved and the treasurer's report was given, as was the report ,of the visiting com- mittee. The rector, Rev. E. 0. Lancaster, was present and advised that the semi-annual Diocesenal meeting was to be held in Wingham on October 24th, It was moved and carried that the Guild cater for the dinner, Rep- resentatives will be here from a ter- ritory which extends from Tobermory in the north to Windsor East and Port Dover in the south, Some monthly dues were paid and the date for the next shower was set for October 12th, at the home of Mrs. Dawson, Shuter St. A large number of articles were presented for the ba- zaar and also some cash donations, The meeting was closed by Mrs. Lancaster and a social half hour en- joyed by the ladies, B.S.W.M.C. The September meeting of the Sen- ior Women's Misaion Circle wad held at the home of Mrs, John Falconer on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Falconer opened the meeting with a poem entitled "The Lord is My Shepherd," followed by the hymn "Ike King of Love, My Shepherd Is," Mrs. George Scott led in prayer fol- lowed by an interesting Bible men by Mrs. Falconer. After the minutes and roll call were read and adopted, Mrs, Pocock read a letter from Mr. and Mrs, Brawn, who are faithfully labouring in Japan. The devotional and scripture, taken front Acts, Chap. ten was given by Mrs. Win, Stokes, Paul and Peter had great visions in Biblical times, so we as Christians have visions in our day. A season of prayer was conducted by each member of the circle, An in- teresting letter from our Missiorary, Miss Laura Collar, Africa, was read by Mrs. Pocock, The hymn "I Am His, and He is Mine," a aa sung, fol- lowed by prayer by Mrs. Pocock. A dainty lunch was served and a social time enjoyed. op B. I '.W.M.C. The September meeting of the young women's mission circle of the Baptist Church was held at the home of Mrs. George Scott on Thursday evening. The president, Mrs. Bruce MacLean presided and opened the meeting with prayer. The hymn "My Sins Are Gone," was sung after which business was discussed, A lovely solo entitled "Cleanse Me," was rendered by Miss Marjorie Ann Scott, The devotional for the evening was capably given by :Vim F. Collar, A season of prayer was conducted by Mrs. A. Procter, Mrs, Merrill Can- Mon and Miss Vivian MacLean, "A New Name in Glory" was sung by all. The main theme of the evening was concerning "The Voice of Europe." An article entitled "Five Minutes Before Midnight" was read by Mrs. Reg. Collar. Another interesting article, "Evangelizing France with French- men" was' read by Mrs. Merrill Can- telon. Mrs. Wm. Aitken read an arti- cle concerning "Europe's Greatest Need"—Need of Christ, "Lapland, our Mission Force in the Arctic, was read by Miss Jessie Scott and "Broken Bread" by Miss Helen Louise Pocock. The hymn "Take the Name of Jesus With You" was sung and Mrs. Coyle closed the meeting in prayer. A dainty lunch was served and a social time enjoyed. A chinese radish may weight as much as 50 pounds. The bride chose traditional white slipper satin, featuring a seed-pearl trimmed yoke of Maltese lace. The gown was fashioned with long lily- point sleeves, Peter Pan collar and. full skirt with Maltese applique on the front of the skirt extending into a slight train. She carried a cascade bouquet of Better Time roses, Miss Florence Grant of Toronto, a cousin of the groom was bridesmaid. She wore a dress of dusty rose moire taf- feta with nylon yoke, -matching mit- tens and picture hat, and carried an informal bouquet of Ophelia roses and fern. The best man was James D. McInnes of Teeswater,brother of the bride. At a reception at the home of the bride's father, Mrs. Clair Grant, sister to the bride, received in navy blue crepe with a corsage of carnations and fern with matching accessories. She was assisted by the groom's mother in black crepe with gold met- allic trim with matching accessories and corsage of carnations and fern. Clarke. The topic dealt with the work of the church in Formosa, China and Japan. It stressed the great need for Christian teaching among these people and the lack of a sufficient number of missionaries and church workers to carry it on. It was divided into various parts which were ably taken by Mrs. G. Scott, Mrs. J. Gur- ney, Mrs, Gauley, Mrs. M, Rae and Mrs. Forsythe.
