this annual service of Thanksgiving.
A generous thankoffs,ring was made in
appreciation of the privileges of the
church and all it means to its mem-
bers and the community.
Guest speakehr was Rev. Russel
Horsburgh, Sudbury. A gifted young
minister, he gave two impressive
sermons. At morning service he spoke
from the words "Watchman what of
the night.' The'morning eometh Isaiah
chapter 21 verse TI. The speaker
traced the world history from the
early centuries and said it was always
at a time of crisis politically, econ-
omically and morally that people were
brought hack to the simple faith in
Christ and His Love. "Today we are
again at the cross roads and a choice
must be made—It is either Christian-

Horsburgh spoke on the text "Peace
I leave with you, My peace I give
onto you". He said we are living in
an age of fear. We fear old age. pov-
erty, illness and death. People seek
peace in pleasure, in material gain,
their greatest enemy is within them-
selves. Peace within the heart
drives out all doubts and fears and
that is the need of the world in these
trying times,
Guest soloist was Mr. Archie Hen-
derson of London, and Mr. Hors-
burgh expressed on behalf of the
congregation deep appreciation for
his contribution to the service. His
solo numbers were "Consider and
Hear me, "I sought the Lord," and
"Spirit of God."
Ilowiek Lions Canvass for Blind
Members of the Howiek Lions Club
will make their annual canvass for the
blind, They will make a house to
house canvass in the three villages
Fordwich, Gorrie and Wroxeter on
Saturday morning. Residents should
be ready to help the Lions club in
this very worthy work,
Sunday School Supper
The Wroxeter United Church Sun-
day school, held an official meeting at
the Manse on Tuesday evening, Sep-
tember 25th with eight present. Rev.
E. W. Todd opened the meeting with
prayer, It was moved by 0. A. Wear-
ring seconded by Mrs. Stuart Higgins
that Mrs. Wm. Wright be secretary.
Plans Were made to hold the annual
Fall supper on the evening of the 26th
of October at 7 Mr, Cousens of
Brussels was to be invited to show
his films. Ali the congregation and
friends are cordially invited. Follow-
ing this Mr, Todd suggested some
objectives that were worth considering
to improve our Sunday school. Much
discussion took place but time did not
Permit a full consideration of the
various subjects. On motion of G, A.
Wearring and Mrs. Munro meeting ad-
journed' until November 6th. The
Mizpah benediction was repeated
after which Mrs. Todd served refresh-
ments,
For-Rest Club Plan Party
The For-Rest Ladies Club finance
committee met in the Masonic Club
Rooms on Wednesday evening. Among
discussions were plans for a social
evening on the evening of October
19th in Masonic Club rooms. The fol-
lowing committee were named to ar-
range for the. party, Mrs. J. H. Wylie,
Mrs. Thos. Burke, Mrs. Jack MacLean,
Mrs. John Snell and Mrs. Andy Gib-
son. The social evenings held by this
group last winter season were greatly
enjoyed. The people in the community
will look forward to another season
of friendly get-togethers.
Institute Meeting Again Postponed

new electric organ which added beauty

ronto spent part of last week with
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Brown. Mr.
and Mrs. Jackman have just returned
from a trip to the west coast, Grand
Canyon and New Mexico.
Attending a birthday supper for
Mr. Stanley Gallaher at his home on
Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. John
Gallaher of Detroit, Mr. and Mrs. Al-
bert Gallaher, Mrs. Fred Kitchen and
her daughter Mrs, R. C. Berkinshaw,
Toronto.
Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Berkinshaw of
Toronto are among the guests invited
to the reception which will be given
by Lieut, Governor and Mrs. Ray
Lawson for Princess Elizabeth and
the Duke of Edinburgh when they
visit Toronto. Mrs. Berkinshaw is
the former Orral Kitchen, daughter of
Mrs. Fred Kitchen.
Mr. Jim Edgar who has been in
hospital since April of this year has
returned from Victoria hospital and
will spend this week in Wingham
General Hospital. Mr. Edgar will re-
turn to Wroxeter in a few days and
will stay with Mr. and Mrs. Gowing.
Jim's many friends are pleased he
has made good improvement after a
serious illness.
Donald Townsend is a patient in
Victoria Hospital, London, Don's
many friends hope he will soon be
able to return home.
Mr. Scott Hunter Blenheim spent
the week-end at his home here.
Mr. Duncan MacDonald of Port
Elgin spent the week-end with his
