Mrs. Ronald Taylor and Mr. Whit-
ney Godley, of Sault Ste. Marie, spent
a few days last week with Mr. and
Mrs, William Wade and visited their
another. Mrs. Florence Bodley, of
Sault Ste. Marie, who is a patient in
the Palmerston Hospital, having been
taken ill while visiting friends in
Fordwich and Palmerston.
Mr. Bert Cooper returned on Thurs-
day last from an .extended trip to the
West.
Mrs.. Henry Schaefer and daughter,
Miss Pearl, of Toronto, visited with •
relatives here last week.
Mr, and Mrs. Everett Allan are on
a trip to the States.
Mr. and Mrs. Wray Cooper and
daughters spent Friday at the To-
ronto Exhibition,
Mrs. A. Jamieson, of Elora, spent
the week-end with relatives here,
Mr. William Wade was honored
with a seat on the platform at the
Progressive Conservative nominating
convention at Wingham on Thursday
evening, being the oldest Conserva-
tive in attendance. Premier Frost was
the chief speaker.
It has been announced that Miss
Marie ceKrafka was the student with
highest standing in -Grade XIII at the
Listowel High School and would have
been eligible for either a scholarship
or bursary if she had applied, Miss
O'Krafka was a student at the WroN-
' eter Continuation School until last
year. She has commenced studies at
the Stratford Normal.

The IV, A, of St, Stephen's Church
will meet on Thursday afternoon at
the home of Mrs. F. C. Taylor at
1,30 p.m, as a quilt will be quilted,

Earl Baker has sold his barber
shop and pool room to Mr. Ben
Johnson of Listowel, Mr. Johnson
has taken possession. Mr. and Mrs.
Baker and family are moving to
Fordwich. Friends will learn with
regret that Mr. Baker has to spend
some time in Westminster Hospital,
where he will receive treatments,
which it, is hoped will benefit his
health,
Mrs, James Curran was hostess
for the September meeting of the
Women's Institute held on Thursday
with 16 ladies present. Mrs. Charles
McDonald was in the chair and the
roll earn "My Favourite Perennial
Flower" received a full response. A
committe was appointed to arrange
for a lunch counter after the concert
on Lucknow Fall Fair night, if agree-
able to the Fair Board.

School Attendance Up
New pupils starting in the Primary
Grade last week were Carol Robin-
son, Ruth Edgar, Joanne Strong, Alex
Hamilton, Wayne Ruttan and Billie
Baker. Two members of the Stiringa
family from Holland are also in the
Jr. room and 4 in Sr. room. This is
the family who came to Gorrie some
weeks ago with their 8 children. They
secured employment at Tiverton but
have returned to Gerrie and are liv-
ing on the Hilt. Ashton farm and
will work for Chester Bennett and
Harry King. Mr. and Mrs. Chas.
Falconer and family who were
occupying this house have moved to
Maine Corners,

The Council met in the Clerk's
Office according to adjournment, the
Reeve E. H. Strong in the chair. All
members present excepting Councillor
Hargrave. The minutes of the last
regular meeting were read and on
motion of Gibson and NeWton were
