WINGHAM, ONT Mr. and Mrs. Leduc ,before coming here, attended the Convention of Vet- erans of Foreign Wars at the Nat- ional Encampment, New York City. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Bennett and family of Wingham, visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Ross Anderson. Mr. and Mrs. Geo, Sargeant of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, spent a few days at the home of her mother, Mrs. A. M. Perdue and Miss Francis Mc- Crea of London also spent the week- end there and all visited at Owen Sound on Sunday. Mr, and Mrs, Gordon Robb and baby oft Ashfield, and Mr. and Mrs. John McMillan and family of Lis, towel, were Sunday visitors at the home of their mother, Mrs, R. J. Scott. A number of the ladies of the com- munity attended a brush demonstra- tion at Mrs. Ross Anderson's one evening last week. The letter stated the box arrived in excellent condition and its contents were en- joyed by many of the boys. Several members will accompany her for the first day. Mrs. Cathers and Mrs. Web- ster were appointed to plan for tar• booth at the Howick Fair. I., on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, September 11-12. President, Mrs. J. R. White will preside over the two-day sessions. The meeting will be held in Memorial Hall, Guelph. On Tuesday evening the banquet will be followed by.-an address by the Canadian writcrii,af,,poetry, Edna Ja- ques, also pictures taken by Miss Lewis, Director, while overseas, will be shown. The station I situated on highway 87 at the west end of the village is one of the most modern in this part of the country. I Mrs. I. J. Gamble of Fordwich, is spending a few days with her sister, Mrs. D. S. MacNaughton. Miss Gilberta Howes of the Bank ol Commerce staff, enjoyed a holiday trip last week. Bob °exhort, farm editor for CINX, Was guest speaker When the Wrox- eter Women's Institute held their September meeting in the Masonic Club Rooms on Wednesday after- noon, Choosing for his subject, "Agri- culture," the speaker discussed prices of farm commodities, stating there was an ever-growing demand in Can- ada for Canadian products as the population was growing. Ile gave some good advice as to how to keep the young people on the farm and predicted that in twenty-five years a forty-hour week such as Is the cus- tom in England will be popular here, With the many new factors in farm- ing, the farmer has to be a better business man. The secretary, The regular monthly meeting of Knox W.M.S. was held in the church on Tuesday, September 4, at 2.30 o'clock, The meeting opened with the singing of Hymn 278. The business period, conducted by the president, Mrs. Scott then followed, The minutes of the last meeting were read by the Secretary, Mrs. Bruce, and the treasurer's report was given by Mrs, Leitch, The roll call and visits to the sick and shut-ins were reported. Plans were made to attend the Presbyterial Rally being held in Au- burn on Tuesday, September 11, with mrs. Ersitine of Stratford as the guest speaker in the afternoon, Plans also were made for the fall Thank- offering to he held in October. The topic was taken by Mrs. Scott from the study honk, "The Island of For- ' mosa" and dealt with "Our Share in the World Missions." Mrs. Garner , Nicholson read parts of interest from ',several Missionary letters. Hymn 602 was sung and the president closed the meeting with prayer.
