Mr. and Mrs. Leduc ,before coming
here, attended the Convention of Vet-
erans of Foreign Wars at the Nat-
ional Encampment, New York City.
Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Bennett and
family of Wingham, visited on Sunday
with Mr. and Mrs. Ross Anderson.
Mr. and Mrs. Geo, Sargeant of
Pawtucket, Rhode Island, spent a few
days at the home of her mother, Mrs.
A. M. Perdue and Miss Francis Mc-
Crea of London also spent the week-
end there and all visited at Owen
Sound on Sunday.
Mr, and Mrs, Gordon Robb and
baby oft Ashfield, and Mr. and Mrs.
John McMillan and family of Lis,
towel, were Sunday visitors at the
home of their mother, Mrs, R. J. Scott.
A number of the ladies of the com-
munity attended a brush demonstra-
tion at Mrs. Ross Anderson's one
evening last week.
Mr, and Mrs. Wilfred Walker vis-
ited on Sunday with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Fred Johann, of Delmore.
Mrs. Leander Good spent a few
days visiting relatives at Lambeth.

Mrs. Timni, presented the minutes
and correspondence, which included
several letters from those remember-
ed While ill, also ft letter from the
Parents of a boy in Korea, expressing
their thanks to the members for the
box sent some time ago. The letter
stated the box arrived in excellent
condition and its contents were en-
joyed by many of the boys. The sec-
retary also told. of the tour recently
taken by the W, I. to the Huron Mus-
eum and the President urged any
who had antiques, old dresses, etc.,
N present them to the museum as the
curator is reserving a space there
for such. Mrs, James Doig reviewed
current events, including the coming
visit of Princess Elizabeth and the
Duke of Edinburgh, style notes for
fall, and other items of local interest.
One of the charter members Mrs. T.
N, Allen, who recently celebrated a
50th wedding anniversary, was pre-
sented with a gift, The president con-
veyed the congratulations and good
wishes of the members and Mrs.
Timm made the presentation. Lovely,
gladiolas from the garden of Mrs.
Lyle Brothers were much admired,
Mrs. W. T. MacLean was appointed
delegate to the convention on Tuesday
and Wednesday of next week. Several
members will accompany her for the
first day. Mrs. Cathers and Mrs. Web-
ster were appointed to plan for tar•
booth at the Howick Fair. Mrs. Thom
and Mrs. Parker were named a com-
mittee to arrange for the prize dona-
tion of five dollars which will include
the Howlett school children, Roll call

Guelph Area Convention
Delegates from this district will at-
tend Guelph Area Convention W. I.,
on Tuesday and Wednesday of this
week, September 11-12. President,
Mrs. J. R. White will preside over
the two-day sessions. The meeting
will be held in Memorial Hall, Guelph.
On Tuesday evening the banquet will
be followed by.-an address by the
Canadian writcrii,af,,poetry, Edna Ja-
ques, also pictures taken by Miss
Lewis, Director, while overseas, will
be shown. Last year 406 registered
and this year an even larger dele-
gation is expected.

Misses Bonnie and Lulu Gibson,
also Messrs. Leo Jetty and Harry
Raffell, all of London, were recent
visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon
Gibson.
Mr. and. Mrs. Peter MacEwen of
Dorset spent several days last week
with Mr. George and Miss Ellen Mac-
Ewen and other relatives,
Andy and Mrs. Pokolykus have I
moved into the new living quarters
at their service station. The station I
situated on highway 87 at the west
end of the village is one of the most
modern in this part of the country. I
Mrs. I. J. Gamble of Fordwich, is
spending a few days with her sister,
Mrs. D. S. MacNaughton.
Miss Gilberta Howes of the Bank
ol Commerce staff, enjoyed a holiday
trip last week.
Several from this district attended
the Drumhead service held in Ford-
\Neel) on Sunday afternoon. as
Miss Mary MacDonald has joined
the staff of the local Bank of Com-
merce,
School opened on.. the 2nd. line of
Turnberry school last week with a
new teacher, Mrs. Wm. McKinney of
Bluevalc, and two new pupils Glenn
Harris and Phyllis Grant,
Week-end guests of Mr, and Mrs.
Percy Copeland were: Mr. and Mrs.
Albert Copeland and son, Paul of Wel-
land, Mr, and Mrs. Ronnie Bennett
and baby, Gerry, Walton, Mr. and
Mrs. Win, Merkley and daughter,
Sharon, of Belmore.
Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Brown and

were in Niagara Falls for the week-
end.

eter Women's Institute held their
September meeting in the Masonic
Club Rooms on Wednesday after-
noon, Choosing for his subject, "Agri-
culture," the speaker discussed prices
of farm commodities, stating there
was an ever-growing demand in Can-
ada for Canadian products as the
population was growing. Ile gave
some good advice as to how to keep
the young people on the farm and
predicted that in twenty-five years a
forty-hour week such as Is the cus-
tom in England will be popular here,
With the many new factors in farm-
ing, the farmer has to be a better
business man. He must keep accounts,
Mr. .Carbert spoke of the many helps
available to the farmer through or-
granizations which keep him well in-
formed, Mrs. W. T. MacLean spoke

The regular monthly meeting of
Knox W.M.S. was held in the church
on Tuesday, September 4, at 2.30
o'clock, The meeting opened with the
singing of Hymn 278. The business
period, conducted by the president,
Mrs. Scott then followed, The minutes
of the last meeting were read by
the Secretary, Mrs. Bruce, and the
treasurer's report was given by Mrs,
Leitch, The roll call and visits to the
sick and shut-ins were reported.
Plans were made to attend the
Presbyterial Rally being held in Au-
burn on Tuesday, September 11, with
mrs. Ersitine of Stratford as the
guest speaker in the afternoon, Plans
also were made for the fall Thank-
offering to he held in October. The
topic was taken by Mrs. Scott from
the study honk, "The Island of For-
' mosa" and dealt with "Our Share in
the World Missions." Mrs. Garner
, Nicholson read parts of interest from
',several Missionary letters. Hymn 602
was sung and the president closed the
meeting with prayer.

in the S. S. room of the Knox United
Church, Belgrave.

Mr, Harris. Purclon, who has been
working at Chapleau, Northern Ont-
ario, for the summer, spent last week
with his sister, Mrs. Calvin Robinson,
and also visited his brothers, Wm.
Purdon of West Wawanosh and El-
sner of Wingham,
Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Chamney motor-
ed to Toronto on Sunday and Anne,
who was home for the week-end re-
turned with them to resume her train-
ing at the .:Vfothereraft Hospital in
that city.
Mr, and Mrs. Roy Rutledge of
Goderieh, spent. Sunday at the home
of his uncle, Mr, and Mrs. Richard
Chamney.
Mr. and Mrs. Robt Higgins and
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Patterson anu
daughter, visited on Sunday with Ma,
and Mrs. Arthur Fitch and Mr. and
Mrs. Alvin Fitch at Belmore,

couple of weeks holidaying, with Eel-
grave and district relatives,

Belton, spent a few days with her
parents, Mr, and Mrs. Richard
Chamney.
Mrs, Jas. Young left last week
to spend a week or ten days with
Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Armitage at
Belmont.
