Mrs. Peter MacDonald wishes to
thank her relatives, friends and
neighbours for their kind remem-
brances during her recent period in
the hospital. She can never forget
their kindness.
At midnight Saturday, August 11th,
Margaret An Day, widow of the late
'Thomas Day, passed away in the
Wingham. 'General Hospital, where
she had been confined for six weeks
after breaking her hip, Pneumonia
was the immediate cause of her death
She was the daughter of the late
Robt, Dunlop and Mary Ann Ferguson
and was born In October 1864, in the
Township of North Easthope, near
Stratford Following her marriage to
Thomas Day in 1900, she came to
Howick and has since resided on lot
5, con. 11.
Her husband predeceased her in
1946, A son, Edwin on the home
farm, and two daughters, Mrs. Gor-
don (Olive) Underwood and Mrs.
Earl (Violet) Underwood, both of
Gorrie, mourn the passing of a loving
mother. There are seven grand child-
ren, six great grand children and one
sister, Mrs. Robt, Newsham of Birtle,
Man.
Funeral service was conducted at
2.30 p,m, on Tuesday at the home by
Rev. G. D. Vogan and interment was
made in Gorrie cemetery. Pallbearers
were six nephews: Robt, Andy, Stan-
ley and Jim Dunlop, Alf. Taylor and
A. Attridge. Flower bearers were:
Frank King, Cecil Day, Wm. Austin,
Leonard Sanderson, Archie and Mac
Steurnol.
Among those attending the funeral
from a distance were friends from
Stratford, Milverton, St. Marys, Lake-
side, Jackson, Mich,, Seaforth, Wing-
ham and Harriston,
United Church News
Rev, Robt. Watt back rrom vaca-
tion, chose as his text, 'Romans 1:16,
"For I ain not Ashamed of the Gospel
of Christ."
The children's story entitled "The
King's Prize," was based on Lieut.
Gilmour Boa's winning of the King's
prize, at Surrey, England, recently.
Colored missionary slides entitled
"The Good Earth of Chile," will be
shown in the United Church Sunday
School next Sunday morning at 10
a.m. Any adults wishing to see these
colored slides are cordially invited

Bible Society Meeting
There will be a Bible Society ser-
vice on August 26th., at 7.30 p.m. in
the United Church for all congrega-
tions in the' district. Rev.
Harry Moore will be present and will
show the color sound film entitled
"Frontiersman." This film has to do
with Bible distribution in Western

and Carsdn families from Gerrie, and

met for a reunion at Springbank
Park, London, on Sunday, August 12.

ton Watson, who mourns the loss of
her brother, Mr, Howard Stewart, of
Bluevale, who died in a Toronto
Hospital, on August 14th., at the age
of 60 years,

Winnipeg, who are visiting Ontario,
were in Howick on Wednesday after-
noon. Both of Mrs. Moffatt's parents
were one-time residents of Howick,
her mother being the former Cassie
Milne and her father, Wm. Fitzpat-
rick, both of whom lived on the 11th
con. Mrs. Moffat was interested in
locating their homes or at least the
farms on which their home had been.

Gladioli, illuminated by candlelight,
formed the setting in Belmore United
Church on Saturday, August 18, at 2
o'clock for the wedding of Mildred
Elizabeth, eldest daughter of Mr, and
Mrs. Rowland Ballagh, Teeswater
and Simon Claude Bronson, Kitchener,
son of Mrs, Bronson and the late
David Bronson, Drayton. Rev. J. H.
Martin performed the ceremony.
The bridal party entered the church
to the strains of Lohengrin's 'wed-
ding march, played by Miss Betty
Giles, cousin of the bride. The soloist
was Mr. Stanley Wolfe, uncle of the
bride, who sang "0, Perfect Love"
before the ceremony and "The Wed-
ding Prayer" during the signing of
the register.
Given in marriage by her father,
the bride wore a floor-length white
Slipper satin gown featuring a nylon
yoke edged by lace with seed pearl
trim. The sleeves were long and
pointed over the hands. The full skirt,
falling into a slight train, was caught
up to reveal frills of lace. Her lace-
edged floor-length veil fell from a
seed pearl halo and she carried a
wedding ring bouquet of an orchid,
stephanotis and Fleur D'Amour, She
wore a two-strand pearl necklace, gift
of the groom.
Miss Velma Ballagh was her sister's
maid of honour, wearing a floor-
length gown of orchid taffeta, having
a nylon net yoke with a scalloped
edge and a fitted bodice falling into
a bouffant skirt.
Miss Mary Bronson, sister of the
groom was bridesmaid, wearing a
yellow taffeta gown styled similarly
to that of the maid of honour. 'They
carried cascade bouquets of sweet-
heart roses and sweet peas.
Miss Lavonne Ballagh, sister of the
bride wore a nile green taffeta gown
in the same style for her part as
junior bridesmaid. She carried a
basket of stephanotis, corn-flowers
and roses. All the attendants wore
matching headdresses and mittens.
Lynn Ferguson, cousin of the bride
was ring bearer, carrying the ring on
a white satin pillow.
Mr. 'Ross Bronson, brother of the
groom, acted as groomsman and
Lorne Ballagh, cousin of the bride,
and Ted Bronson, brother Of the
groom, were ushers.
Following the ceremony a reception
was held at Pleasure Valley Lodge,
Hanover, where dinner was served to
fifty guests. The bride's mother re-
ceived wearing a navy silk faille dress
with French lace trim and navy ac-
cessories with a corsage of pink roses.
Also receiving was the groom's
mother in navy crepe lace triniMed
dress. She wore navy and white.ac-
ceseorieg with 4 corsage of white
roses.
After the dinner the happy couple
left on a trip to Montreal and points
east. For travelling the bride chose
a navy suit with navy and white ac-
ceesories and a corsage of red sweet.
