Wroxeter Community Park is un-
0 dergoing- a trimming up these days
in preparation for the annual frolic
of the Howick Lions Club, which is
dated for Thursday, August 2nd. The
Mount Forest Kiltie Band will be in
attendance. A ferris wheel and rides
for the children, an amateur show,
with Johnny Brent of CKNX as .inaa-
ter of ceremonies, a dance and the.
Usual games with be features of the
frolic. Members of the club are work,
ing hard to make this evening's fun
the best yet. The Howick Lions Club,
which includes the three villagep of
Fordwieh, Gorrie and Wroxeter ,and
district has proved itself valuable to
this community. Its concern for the
children and support of every worthy
i community project cannot be carried ,

gramme of sports was carried out
with Carmen Farrier, Toronto, and
Mildred Higgins of Morris in charge.
Softball games were arranged for the
children and older group. Because of
the rain in the evening supper tables
were set in the rink. A business per-
1 iod followed with election of officers
as follows: President, Nelson Higgins,
Wingham; secretary, Mrs. Stewart
Higgins, Wroxeter; invitation commit-
tee, Mrs. Gordon Walker, Wingham;
Mrs, Frank Pannabaker, Clinton;
refreshments, Mrs. Roy Pattison,
Wingham, Mrs, Carl Fitch, Belmore,
Mrs. Emerson Shera, Wingham and
Mrs. Frank Graham, Fordwieh. It
was decided to hold a reunion in 1952,
time and place to be decided later.
Mr. Jim Edgar, who has been a
patient in Wingham General Hospi-
tal for some weeks, has been taken
to a London Hospital for further
treatment.
Women's Association Enjoy Picnic
Members of the Women's Associa-
tion, United Church, with the mem-
bers of the Women's Missionary Soc-
iety as their guests, enjoyed a picnic
on Thursday of last week. The W. A.
and their guests met at the church
and motored to the Lions Club Park
at Seaforth. The party enjoyed a
tour of the grounds, which is one of
the most up-to-date in the district.
Facilities include a swimming pool
with a life guard on duty, refresh-
ment stand, bath house, play ground
with flood lights, lovely grounds with
shade trees and very well kept. A
program of games was carried out
with the following committee in
charge: Mrs. Charles McCutcheon,
Mrs. William Hart, Mrs, Albert Gal-
aher and Mrs. Lloyd Magee, Includ-
ed were guessing contests, walking
races, flower contest, kicking the
slipper, etc. The oldest lady present,
Mrs. J. N. Allen, was presented with
a corsage of roses, as was the young-
est grandmother, Mrs. John Snell.
The hostesses served supper from a
long table. The president, Mrs. Leslie
Douglas, graciously welcomed the vis-
itors. Mrs. D. S. MacNaughton, on be-
half of the W.M.S., expressed apprec-

son, Roger, of Brantford, are holiday-
ing with Mrs, Peter Milligan. Mr, and
Mrs. George Paulin and children of
Clifford, spent Sunday at the Milli-
gan home.
Miss Joan Coulter of Orangeville,
spent last week with Mr. and Mrs. J.
Stacia.
Mr. and Mrs. William Hart and
family and Mr. and Mrs. Ken Edgar
and family spent Sunday at the lake.
Misses Marian and Blsie Gibson
spent part of last week with relatives

Miss Helcp Cross, Kintail, is holi-
daying with her cousins, Donna and
Marilyn MacLean.
Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Hunter have
returned from their holidays.
Mr. and Mrs. Allen Munro and Win-
nifred, are spending two weeks at
their cottage, "Suits Us," at Amberley,
Mrs. D. P. Hainstock and daughter,
Helen Hainstock of Toronto, spent
part of last week with D, S. and Mrs.
MacNaughton. Mr. and Mrs. W. A.
Campbell of Owen Sound, were Sun-
day guests at the MacNaughton home.
Miss Mae Davidson is a patient in
Wingham General Hospital, Her many
friends wish for her a speedy recov-
ery.
'Mrs. M. Sellars is under the clOctor's
care at her home. Mrs. Sellars' many
friends hope her health will soon
improve.

en up residence on the groom's farm

Miss Gertrude Sangster returned to
Detroit on Saturday following a holi-
day at her home here.
Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Mercer, Mark-
dale, visited with Mr. and Mrs. James
Sanderson on Saturday and also at-
tended the wedding of Elizabeth, dau-
ghter of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Sanderson,
Harriston (nee Cassie MacDougall)
of Wroxeter. Mr. and Mrs. Jim. San-
derson and family returned on Satur-
day evening with the Mercers to their
home in Markdale. A special reason
for the hurried trip home was to see
the night blooming cactus. Two per-
fect blooms were seen at midnight but
by morning were closed again.
Jamie and David, sons of Mr. and
Mrs. Jim Sanderson, found a new pet
when they discovered a young fawn
in the creek on their farm, The boys
named the fawn, Brownie, and cared
for it until it was able to travel and
then gave it freedom. Once in a while
it returns to the farm looking for the
boys who, through their kindness and
care, gave it a chance to survive.
