Treat for shock,
Elevate injured part.
7. Burns and scalds
Treat for shock.
Apply a dry, sterile dressing to the
burned area and bandage firmly.
Do not break blisters.
If extensive, get to a doctor quickly,

Immobilize joint above and below
fracture with splints.
If back injury don't move patient,

Fan him to keep air circulating,

Shade the eyes,
Apply cold compresses.
12. Drowning.
Lay him on stomach with his hand
under forehead,
Be sure breathing passages are not
obstructed.
Give artificial respiration.
Treat for shock.
Transportation
Make careful examination. Choose
method of transport best suited, con-
sidering the condition of victim, dis-
tance to be covered, facilities avail-
able, number of helpers.
Organize all details of trip before
starting.
Travel slowly.
Don't move victim unnecessarily.
It may be better to leave him and
return with doctor.
Learn to Improvise
Splints may be made from—straight
branches, paddles, long grass bunched
together, rushes.
Stretchers may be made from—
coats with two poles, blankets with
two poles, blanket without poles, po-
tato sacks with two poles.
