from a severe attack of measles.

The Women's Guild of St. James'
Anglican church will hold their June
meeting on the afternoon of the 13th;
in the church basement. A full attend-
ance is requested.

Friends here learned with regret of
the death of a former resident, Edgar
Frances" Lowry of Dundas, in his
52nd. year. Mr. Lowry was born in
Brussels, then moved with his parents
to Wroxeter, where 'his father had a
livery barn. It was here he received

Members of the local Institute are

Mrs. Arthur Hamilton, Atwood, who
attended the conference of the Coun-
try Women of the World at Copen-
hagen last summer, will be the guest
speaker. Members are asked to con-
tact the secretary if they wish to
attend, so that transportation can be
arranged.
Mr. and Mrs, John Gedche, Lis-
towel, visited Mr. and Mrs. Harvey
Timm one day last week. Mr. Bill
Timm, also of Listowel, was a week-
end visitor at the same home,

Women's Missionary Society
Women of Wroxeter and Salem
congregations are invited to be the
guests of the Women's Missionary
Society on Friday evening, June 8th,
at eight o'clock, in the United Church
schoolroom. President, Mrs. U. E.
Cronhielm will preside- and--Mrs, Les.
Douglas and Mrs. Gilbert Howes will
speak. There will be a musical pro-
gramme and a social hour following.
This is the one evening meeting of

Women's Institute
The June meeting of the Wroxeter
Women's Institute will be held on
the afternoon of June 13th., at 2.30
o'clock. The roll call will be "Memor-
ies of Our Grandparents." Grand-
mothers, will be special guests with
Mrs. John Lane, Mrs, Wes Newton
and Mrs. Lyle Brothers in charge of
the programme. Mrs. Frank Sander-
son and Mrs. Les Douglas will give
reports on historical research and
community activities and public rela-
tions. Both were delegates to the re-
cent officers' conference held at
Guelph. Hostesses are Mrs. F. Martin,
Mrs. W. T. MacLean, Mrs. Harvey
Reidt, The meeting will be held in
the Masonic Club rooms, members are
asked to note change of date.
Local Boys Attend Races
Five local men, •Glenn McKercher,
Jack Griffith, Harvey Bradshaw, Jim
Adams and Arthur Ruttan attended
the car races in Indianapolis last
week. The group left on Monday
morning returning on Friday night.
They report a very interesting holi-
day trip.
Jamboree Great Success
The town hall was well filled on
Thursday and Friday nights when the
Howick Lions Club held their first
Hay Loft amboree, For two weeks
they were trained by Miss Greita
Liles of Kansas City. The stage set-
ting of haled hay, harness and sad-
dles, a small fawn and a wooden
horse gave the realistic touch. In all
68 took part in the show and their
costumes added variety and color.
Main characters were Joe Kelly, play-
ed by Ken Edgar, who made an ex-
cellent master of ceremonies. Lulu
Bell—Mrs. Stanley Bride, Hiram
Hicks—Pete Dobson and Uncle Ezry—
Charles Black,
Amateurs in the contest were
Tommy Parker, Ethel Reis, Arthur
and Andy Gibson, Darleen Brothers,
Mary McKercher, Nancy Newton,
Shirley Timm, Rosemary Adams, Jean
Sangster, Edythe Timm and Marlene
Fiegle, Arleen Timm, Nory Fiegle,
Bob Cunningham. Winners were: $10
cash prize, Rosemary Adams, sword
dance; 2nd. prize, $7, Darlene Broth-
ers (Shirley Temple) solo; 3rd., $5,
Robert Cunningham, ,(Phil Harris)
comic song; Mrs. Lyle Brothers was
accompanist for the three numbers.
Eight quizz kids had their skill and
knowledge tested by the master of
ceremonies.
Thirty-ones` children were entered in
the Tiny Tot popularity contest, the
first prizes went to Marian Hudson of
Fordwich and Wayne Draper, Wrox-
eter who were presented with silver
loving cups .Second prizes were won
by Ann Gibson, Wroxeter and Bobbie
BAZOOKA BRINGS CANADIANS, ETHIOPIANS TOGETHER'
Canadians in Korea have been
steadily gaining solid friendship
among soldiers of allied nations
serving with United Nations' forces.

and capabilities of the 3.5 rocket
launcher (bazooka) in their South-
ern Korea staging camp. 25th Cana-
dian Infantry Brigade troops played
host to officers of the Ethiopian
Army who were impressed by the
friendliness shown them. A group

dressed as ladies. Mr. and Mrs., Sam

Ethel Reis provided the old time
music and the step dancing was good.
