spent the week-end with her parents,
Mr. and Mrs, W. R. Farrier. On Sun-
day, Miss Farrier, Mrs, Farrier and
Mr, Garnet Farrier attended the dedi-
cation service 41 Ripley United
Church, of their new Wurlitzer Elec-
tronic organ, which Mr. Farrier M-
etalled there on 'Thursday last. The
Legion purchased this memorial organ
in memory of thope who gave their
lives, or who were in the last war
,from that church. On Monday even-
ling several from here attended the
musical program presented in that
(church. featuring Lorne J, Willits of
Listowel and the Listowel Glee club.
Mrs, Eyvel left last week to visit
with het. niece, Mr, and Mrs. Pringle
of Napaziee•for a week..
Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell Elliott and
baby Linda, of Belgrave, spent Sun-
day with his parents, Mr, and Mrs.
Gordon Elliott.
Mrs. Wm. Dawson and Mr. and
Mrs. Wesley Tiffin spent last week
at Wingham Hospital, where Mr
Dawson has been seriously ill, and is
not yet out of danger.
Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Rome aril
daughter of Teeswater, visited on
Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Harold
Walker.
Mr. J, Dirstein of Elmwood, gave
the message in the cause of temper-
ance in the United Church here on
Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Russell Gaunt, Janet
and Donald, spent Sunday with Mr.
and Mrs. Kenneth Currie.
Mrs. Ed. Nicholson, of London,
spent last week with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. John Hutchison. Mrs. Hut-
chison left here on Thursday to catch
the boat at Montreal • on Friday on
her trip to England. She will visit for
the next two months with her mother,
Mrs, Thraves in the north of Scot-
land and with her married sisters at
Bolton. Mrs. Hutchison came here
as a war bride after World War I and
about seventeen years ago visited at
her home in Scotland,. accompanied
by her daughter. Her many friends
wish her a pleasant trip and a sate
return.
'W.A.L.S. Meeting
The regular monthly meeting of the
W.M.S. of the Brick United Church,
was held on Wednesday last at the
home of Mrs. George Coultes, with
twelve ladies present and with Mrs.
Moores presiding and leading in the
Scripture lesson, and all repeated the
23rd, psalm. There was a period of
prayer for the missionaries, the Jap-
anese teachers and the youth of
Japan. Mrs. Cecil Coultes and Mrs.
Lawrence Taylor had charge of the
last. chapter of the study4eiek, "The
United Church Re-enters Japan." Mrs.
Hereon Irwin and Mrs. Cecil Coultes
were appointed as delegates to the
Presbyterial, being held at Exeter this
Friday, and Mrs. Moores closed the
meeting with prayer.
The service in Brick Church was
withdrawn on Sunday in order to let
that congregation attend the special
service in 13elgrave church, to hear
Deacon Jones of India.
Mr. Harry Deacon was taken to
Wingham Hospital on Sundays' suffer-
ing from a heart condition.
Mrs. Lance Grain spent the week-
end at Listowel, at the home of her
son, Mr. Orton Grain. .
Mrs. George Buschlea
F. McK. Paterson received word on
Saturday of the death of his youngest
sister, Mrs. George L. Buschlen, of
Toronto, Mary Bell Paterson, daugh-
ter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Paterson of Wingham in her ilOth
year, She had been very ill during
the past six months and passed away
in Western Hospital, She leaves to
mourn her a grown family of four,
all married in Toronto, and two
grandchildren. She also leaves three
sisters, Mrs. (Rev.) Mundell (Matilda)
of Detroit; Miss Fanny Paterson,
Toronto and Miss Lilian Paterson,
Ayr, and two brothers, Fred of
Leamington and F. Mae, Paterson of
East Wawanosh. Mr. and Mrs. Scott
Paterson and family motored here
from Detroit on Tuesday and they
and his father left on Wednesday to
attend the funeral held to Provpeet
cemetery, Their many friends in this
district extend sympathy to the oe-
reeved family,

Thursday evening at the Belmore
community hall a reception was held
in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Tim Ken-
nedy. The hall was filled with friends
who wished the newlyweds much
happiness. The Log Cabin Boys pro-
vided the music and just before the
lunch was served the honored couple
were presented with a purse of mon-
ey by Mrs. Jack Fitch, and Miss Jean
Elliott read the following address:
Dear Betty and Tim:
This is a very happy occasion that
causes us to gather here to wish you
much happiness Betty and to con-
gratulate you, Tim, but it is not with-
out a feeling of sadness that we real-
ize you are leaving our midst to go
and be desirable citizens elsewhere.
Most of us have known you, Betty,
about half of your life and in that
time you have proven yourself a nob-
le and upright friend, much loved by
young and old, You have been a
willing helper whenever anyone need-
ed aid. We hope you will be happy
in knowing that these favors are ap-
preciated and will be missed.
Tim, your gain is indeed our loss
and we hope you realize you are get-
ting no ordinary companion, but one
who is an outstanding house-keeper
and whose attractiveness has been

of the Institute in connection with
the Arena booth this winter. This
booth Is now 'very well equipped and
the W. I. ladies also took cherge of
the decorating of the adjoining elute
room. An Institute member, in tin
perscn of Mrs, Wm, Edwards, who
had given 43 years of service to the
Belmore W, I. passed on this year to
higher service. On motion of Mrs.
Win. Elliott mid seconded by Mrs.
Miller Met year's officers were re-
turned to office for another year, A.
new program committee consisting of
Mrs, Walter Woods, Mrs, Harry Gow-
dy and Mrs, Wm. Merkley was ap-
pointed to make out programs for
the coming year. The meeting closed
after which the ladies enjoyed a so-
cial time time while partaking of a.

Euchre Party
Seventeen tables were in play at
the euchre held in the community
ball on Monday night, Mr. and Mrs.
Geo. Day, Mr. and Mrs. Walter
Woods and Miss Jean Wilton were
in charge, Prizes were won by Mrs,
Ivan Haskins, Miss Doris Doubledee,
Mrs, W, Newton, Mr. Alex, Inglis and
Jack Ferguson. Another euchre will
be held in the hall this Monday ev-
ening, Proceeds for the Arena Fund.
Women's Institute
On Wednesday afternoon, April 18,
the annual meeting of the Belmore
Women's Institute was held at the
home of Mrs. N. J. Runkle. The
meeting opened in the usual manner
and seventeen ladies responded to the
roll call, "Some Improvement I made
in My Home this Year", Mrs. Harry
Miller gave a report of a meeting of
the district directors, which she re-

with his wife spent 37 years in Korea.
He took as his text the greatness of
little things. He likened the people of
Korea to the children of Isreal, as
'they had closed their borders for 1.,e
years to the peoples of other natierie,
had been slaves to Japan and have
been for 40 years battle ground for
enemies on either side. He showed in
how many ways God used the euMble
and unimportant people to bring His
message to these peoples and emphas-
ized the good done by the Bible S'oc-
lety and the Colporteurs, who carried
Bibles and Leaflets and how worthy
they were of our assistance financial-
ly. Mrs. Grierson entertained the Mis-
sion Band In the S. S. room and cloth-
ed five of the children in the Korean
costumes, which were very interesting
to all. A hearty vote of thanks was
given to Dr. and Mrs. Grierson and
Rev, E. S. Hayward closed the meet-
ing with prayer. All adjourned to the
S. S, room for lunch and the social
half hour,
