ARMY PLANS FOR
EXERCISE "CROCUS"
District Reserve Army units, which
last year pioneered a large-scale tac-
tical exercise to conclude the winter •
training season, are now engaged iue
planning for a second such scheme.
Successor to 1950's Exercise "'May-
flower" will be Exercise "Crocus,"
which will be staged in the Lakeside
Harrington area between Woodstock
and Stratford.
The new e xercise will be a two-
day affair in winch troops will pro-
ceed into the manoeuvre area on the
Saturday, bivouac in the Open that
night and carry out the scheme on
the Sunday.
While last year's exercise demon-
strated an advance guard action at a
river crossing the emphasis this year
will be on a holding- defence role with
a counter-attack supported by tanks.
