The Howick Lions will hold the
second Mystery contest Concert in
Gorrie, Comunity Hall, on Friday

with Gordon Gibson as chairman are
working hard to make Friday night's

planning to hold a euchre and erok-
inole in Masonic club rooms on Wed-

United Church Promotion Sunday
Members of United Church Sun-
day school and their teachers attend-
ed a special service on Sunday morn-
ing, last, when yearly promotions were

An Essay Competition
To help create au interest among
boys and girls the British and Foreign
Bible Society is sponsording an essay
competition among students in Can-
adian secondary schools and Sunday
chools (15 to 17 years of age). Par-
ticipants are asked to write an essay
of from 1500 to 2000 words in length.
on either, "Why a Knowledge of the
Bible is a Necessary Part of a Sound
Education" or "What the Bible has
Done fur Human Progress." The
competition has been organized. on a
provincial basis. Three prizes will be
awarded in every province, the first,
$50.00; ;the second, $25.00; the third,
$15.00. There will also be a Dominion
prize of $100,00 awarded to the writ-
er of the best essay among the pro-
vincial prize winners. Further inform-
ation about the competition, whieh
closes, March 31, 1951, can be ob-
tained from local secretaries of the
Bible Society.
