Blyth Atoms back
on winning track
Blyth Atoms regained their
winning ways last week with two
victories against opposition from
South Huron.
On Monday, February 17 the
team scored early and often to run
up an 8 - 3 victory over Hensall.
Kevin Souch started off a spectacu-
lar night taking a pass from Danny
Van Bakel and Craig Roulston to
score his first goal only 15 seconds
into the game. It was to be his first
of four goals.
Not to be outdone, Mike Mc-
Nichol, the teams other big scoring
threat, added the second goal on an
assist from Rob Finch,
Ian Andrews made it 3 - 0 late in
the period from Brian Gross and
Brian VanSteelandt. Kevin Souch
struck again with less than a
minute left in the period assisted
by Craig Roulston.
Mike McNichol then showed he
wasn'tabouttobeleftbehind in
goal scoring as he came back early
in the second with his second of the
night, unassisted.
Hensall managed to score one
goal before Kevin Souch struck
again, assisted by Tyler Craig.
After Hensall came back with
another goal, KevinSouchcom-
pleted his four -goal night with
assists from Tyler Craig and Danny
VanBakel. Hensall scored once
more before Mike McNichol scored
this third goal of the game (assisted
by Brian Van Steelandt) to close out
the scoring.
Chosen stars of the game for
Blyth were Kevin Souch on
offence, Jason Elliott and Danny
Van Bakel on defence and Tyler
Craig for effort.
Saturday morning the team
turned an early -morning match
COLUMBIA
that should have been a laugher
into a nail -biter as they thoroughly
dominated Exeter but couldn't put
the puck in the net but managed a 3
- 2 win.
It was indicative of the game that
in the last minute of play the Exeter
team pulled the goalie, Blyth held
the puck in the Exeter end for
nearly the entire time but there was
always a defenceman in the way to
block a shot or a pass that arrived
just too late or on the wrong part of
a player's stick and the team
couldn't put the puck in an empty
net.
Monday night ended the.happy
memories of the winning times,
however when the Atoms lost to the
Blyth Novice team 6 - 5. There will
be no further comment on the game
unless that guy Rusty Blades
decides to boast next week.
