Local women
attend garden show

Several ladies travelled to Tor-
onto to the Garden and Flower
Show. Eighty-six people in all were
on two buses sponsored by the
Huron East District of the Wo-
men's Institutes.
Symptthy is extended to Lyle
and Barbara Martin on the passing
of Lyle's father Orville Martin, a
well-known Waterloo area auc-
tioneer.
Fog didn't deter 12 tables of
euchre from being played on
Monday evening. Hostesses were
Thelma and Pat Keffer. The
winners were: high lady, Dorothy
Hamilton and Isabelle Bremner;
high man, Jim Hart and Chuck; low
lady. Helen Alexander; low man,
Adrian Verstoep; lucky table
score, Joan Smith, Muriel Hamil-
ton, Jim Smith and Jim Hart; door
prize, Mildred Gill; lucky cups, Jim
Smith, Drian Verstoep and Alice
Stevens; card draws, Ralph Keff-
er, Margaret Adams, Dorothy
Dilworth, MelJacklin, Ross Steph-
enson, Becky Ruppel, Marg Dun-
bar and Bill Eckmeir.
The Kindergarten to Grade 4 at
Grey Central, Ethel, participated
in a Winter Fun Day. The students
had snow games and races and
then returned to the school for hot
chocolate.
The grade 6 - 8 students had a
Valentine's Day Dance in the gym.
The 4-H Clubs are on the go
again and seems to be a popular
club entitled "Etiquette" for the
80's.
The Ethel I Club had it's first
meeting at the home of Beth Earl,
assistant leader to Karen Bremn-
er.
There are 10 members and they
have chosen their slate of officers.
President is Diane Prescott; vice
president, Sibylle Menzi and the
secretary's job will be by rotation.
Diane Prescott is doing the
Junior Leader's Assistant job for
this club and it is good for an extra
credit. The girls were given
instructions in Proper Introduc-
tions and how to set a buffet table.
The Ethel III Club has also had
their first meeting. They have 12
members with officers being:
president, Ann Marie Albers; vice
president, Jennifer Miners; secre-
taries, Kim Zettle and Tracy Finch;
treasurer, Connie Alcock; news
reporter, Marlene Albers.
Connie Alcock is the Junior
Leader's Assistant for the Ethel III
club. Leaders are Nancy Zettle and
Sharon Cowman.
Students at Grey Central recent-
ly had Public Speaking in Grades 4 -
8. From this group 19 semi-final-
ists were chosen and then six
students were picked to advance to
the finals at Brussels Legion on
Wednesday, February 26 at 8 p.m.
Chosen in the Junior Division
were Yee Fun Wong, Becky Earl
and Cathy Earl. In the Intermed-
iate Division Ann Morton, Jared
McCutcheon and Melanie Ver-
meer. The Grey Central Home and
School presented each of the 19
speakers with a silver dollar.
Brussels woman dies
JOYCE LEONA TELFER
Joyce Leona Telfer of Turnberry
Street Brussels died February 18,
1986 at Wingham and District
Hospital. She was only 49 years of
age.
The former Joyce Leona Fleet,
she married Ken Telfer who
survives her. Four children also
survive: David, of Guelph; Linda
Albert of Wiarton; Barbara, Mrs.
Mike Albert, of Brussels; and
Grace, Mrs. Bernie Bailey of
Wingham. Twelve grandchildren
also survive as does one sister,
Emily Seiler of Palmerston.
The funeral service took place on
Friday, February 21 at 2 p.m. from
the M. L. Watts Funeral Home,
Brussels. Rev. V. Jamieson offici-
ated. Burial will be in Brussels
Cemetery.
