Brussels Lions Club has been holding weekly hockey draws with a number of local people being lucky winners. Dec. 14 Myra Harvey won $25, Ruth Machan, $15 and Jim Patterson, $10. December 21, Oscar and Dorthea Ducharme won $40 and Larry Rice, $10. December 28th, the top prize of $25 went to Flynn, Switzer, Hairsime and Barker while Ken Franklin won $15 and Tom and Edna Pletch won $10. Jane Devries spent her birthday in Woodstock with her family and visited for over a month. It has been a year to remember for young local skater Peter MacDonald, both good and bad. The year started off with real promise when he and partner Kerry Shepherd of Blyth placed well in several competitions. But after they'd won their way to the divisional championships and even bought their tickets for the trip north, Peter got sick and couldn't compete. This week the two were to show their talent for their two local clubs, Blyth on Friday night and Brussels on Sunday. Peter injured his leg and had to miss both events. Jack and Margaret McCutcheon visited for a couple of days last week with Lou and Mae Ebel and family, Ingersoll, also called on Mr. and Mrs. D. McCutcheon, Woodstock. WMS learns of natives The February meeting of the Melville W.M.S. was held in the church parlor with nine members and one visitors answering the roll call with a scripture verse on "love". Mrs. MacLeod the president opened the meeting with a poem "this is the day the Lord has made". The hymn "His name is Wonderful" was sung. The min- utes of the December meeting were read and approved. Mrs. MacLeod and Helen Elliott gave a report on the Presbyterialofthe W.M.S. held in Wingham Presby- terian church in January. Evelyn Mair gave the financial report. The allocation for this year is $804. Isabelle Adams is to take part in the world day of prayer at the Catholic church. Mrs. Mair received the collection and it was dedicated by Mrs. MacLeod. The hymn "Through all the changing scenes" was sung with Helen Elliott at the piano. Prayer was given by Mrs. MacLeod. The meeting was then turned over to Helen Elliott who read the scripture from psalm 8 and intro- duced the study on native people and then a film on the love of Native Indian people was shown. A discussion on the native people was led by Mrs. MacLeod. Mrs. Matheson led in prayer. The hymn "The healing of the nations" was sung. Mrs. MacLeod pronounced the benediction. Guides, Brownies welcome mothers The 1st Brussels Brownies and Guides held the annual mother and daughter banquet February 18. The annual banquet is to celebrate the birthday of the founders of Guiding and Scouting Lord and Lady Baden-Powell. The guests who attended the banquet were Donna Turney, District Com- missioner, Betty Graber the badge tester and Marian Doucette the puppeteer. A potluck supper was enjoyed by all. Grace was said by Rev. Bonnie Lamble. After the meal Marian Doucette entertained the girls with a fascinating puppet show. The puppet show was enjoyed by the girls and parents as well. The girls worked hard all year and received many badges. Donna Turney presented Sherry Souch and Deb- bie Trollope with their Canada course pins. The Brownie and Guide 1'aps were sung as the evening ended. The girls attended the Presbyter- ian church February 23 for a Thinking Day Service.
