The Juniors were at home to Howick for a mid-week game. The 10 - 2 score did not indicate the caliber of play. The first period had the score tied at one a piece with Tom Newbigging and Rob Cardiff scoring Brussels’ first goal. The second period had Rob Cardiff taking a pass from New­ bigging and Jim Bender to go ahead of the visitors, but they came back and tied the score once more. Kirk Whitfield, Mike Vincent and Mike Chap man combined to put Brussels ahead by one at the end of the second period. The Bulls never performed better passing and positional hockey than they didin the third period of this game. Troy Smith assisted by Kevin McArter scored in the first minute of the period. They went back to centre ice to face off and promptly went down the ice with McArter scoring and Smith assisting for two goals in less than two minutes. Cardiff and Bender combined to score the third goal with Mike Chapman, T. Newbigg­ ing and Troy Smith scoring the fourth. McArter, Newbigging and T. Smith combined for goal number five with Kevin McArter completing his hat-trick of the period unassisted. David Schmidt, Tim Fritz and K irk Whitfield put the seventh goal of the period in the net to win the game at 10 - 2. They out-shot Howick by a 47 - 23 score. Friday night had the players travelling to Mitchell to play the Hawks. Rollie Smith assisted by Mike Vincent put Brussels on the scoreboard. Murray Dewar scored the next two goals with assists from Todd MacDonald and Rob Cardiff on the first goal and Tom Newbigg­ ing and Kirk Whitfield on the second. Mitchell scored one goal before the period ended. Kevin McArter scored on a pass from Rob Cardiff to give Brussels their only goal of the second period while Mitchell added two goals. Kevin McArter and Mike Chap­ man combined for the first goal of the third period. Tom Newbigging and Murray Dewar added the second. Tim Fritz assisted by Dewar and Newbigging added the final goal of the game, as the team kept Mitchell scoreless and claim­ ed the 7 - 3 win. A heavy weekend schedule had the Bulls travelling to Tavistock on Saturday night. The Braves scored early in the first period to take a 1 - 0 lead. Kevin McArter put the Bulls on the scoreboard with a nifty deflection from a hard shot by Todd Mac­ Donald to tie the game. The Bulls went into the lead when Tim Fritz scored on a pass from Murray Dewar and Todd Newbigging. Mike Chapman, Mike Vincent and Rollie Smith added the third to end the period at 3 - 1. Kevin McArter added his se­ cond goal of the game on a pass from Jim Bender and Steve Conners. Murray Dewar and Tom Newbigging combined for the second goal of the period while goalie Jeff McGavin kept Tavistock off the scoreboard for the 5 -1 lead. Rob Cardiff and Jim Bender connected for a short-handed goal to get the third period underway. Defenceman Todd MacDonald as­ sisted by Tim Fritz scored the secondgoaloftheperiod before Tavistock got their second goal of the game. They got their second goal of the period at 10:14 when a hard blast knocked goalie Jeff McGavin to the ice and he fell into the net. Jeffdidn’t receive any cuts but was removed in a daze from the game and replaced by Steve Coultes. The Braves added one more goal but the Bulls came home with a 7 - 4 victory after out-shooting the Braves 45-27. Sunday afternoon found them at home for their third tough game of the weekend against nearby Sea­ forth. The Bulls out-shot the Centennaires 17 - 12inthe first period but Seaforth got three shots past goalie Mike Smith to take a 3 - 0 lead at the end of the first period. Brussels was out-shot in the second period 10 - 7 by the visitors but managed to put the only goal of the period on the board when Rollie Smith and David Schmidt combin­ ed to score. They kept Seaforth scoreless for the period. The Bulls came out in the third period to score two good goals. Kevin McArter and Troy Smith combined to defeat goalie Keith McClure on the first goal and Tom Newbigging assisted by Rollie Smith and Murray Dewar succeed­ ed in tying the game. The final score did not indicate the calibre of play displayed by the teams. The Bulls will be on the road Saturday night in Mt. Brydges and Sunday afternoon in Seaforth. Theirseason of league games has dwindled to five games and then piayoffs will start. It looks like a fight to the finish for top spot in the rorthern division between Brussels and Seaforth. It takes your support to keep these teams operating and your enthusiasm in the stands to show them that you appreciate their hard work and their ability to play the game. The dedication of a lot of people keep these boys on the ice in both Junior and Minor Hockey categor­ ies. The least we can do is give them our encouragement as fans. The season is drawing to a close faster than you realize. Do your part and come out and cheer them on.
