Mr, and Mrs, Melvin Greer of Luck-
now, were recent visitors at the home
of Mr, and Mrs. F. C. Taylor.
Mr. Archie Miller and Mr. and Mrs.
W. C. King spent a day in Toronto
last week
Mr. and Mrs, Ran Toman and Mr.
and Mrs. 'Willot Kelterborn, Milverton,
were week-end visitors with Mr, and
Mrs. Cloyne Michel. The ladies are
sisters of Mrs. Michel.
A number from here were in Wing-
ham for the big Santa ,taus parade
on Saturday.
Miss Nellie Longley of Toronto, vis-
ited friends in the village on Wednes-
day and Thursday of last week.
Mr, and Mrs, F. Van Ryan, Janet,
Ruth and Timmy of Grand Rapids,
Mich,, spent the week-end with Mr.
and Mrs. Win. Lynn. Mrs. Ted Hol-
land and Joan of Harriston, spent Sun-
day at the same home.
Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Hamilton of
Vancouver, are visiting Mrs. Alex
Hamilton and other relatives,
Mr. Ray Phenell of Toronto, visited
Ids daughters at Mr. Elmer Downey's
over the week-end,
Mr. and Mrs. Robt, Gibson, Wrox-
etter, were guests of Mr. and Mrs.
W. C. King on Sunday.
Mrs. Etta Pyke has returned to her
home after a ten days' visit with her
daughter, Mrs. Carl Fitch and Mr.
Fitch at Delmore.
Mrs. Pearl Kaine has returned from
a visit with relatives at Brooklin.
It may be of interest to older resi-
dents who will remember Rev.
Holmes, a former minister of the Gor-
rie Methodist Church, to learn that
his daughter, Miss Clara, is at present
visiting her sister in London. Miss
Holmes has a responsible position in
the Canadian West being public rela-
tions officer of the Women's division,
dept. of Public relations Can. Pacific
Railway with her office in Winnipeg,
and is known from coast to coast in
railroad circles. While in London, Miss
Holmes was guest at an open forum of
public relations held by the school of
journalism U. W. 0., and guest of
honour at a slipper meeting • of the
London Women's Press Club. During
the three years that she lived in Gor-
rie Miss Holmes will be remembered
as a popular soloist and teacher of
voice.
Women's Insitute
The December meeting of the Gorrie
Women's institute will be held on
Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 6th, (one
week earlier than usual date) at the
home of Mrs. W. C. King. Rev. J. C;
Caley will be guest speaker. The roll
call will be an inexpensive Christmas
gift. A. shower of tea towels and dish
cloths is asked for to aid in equipping
the kitchen at the hall as the Institute
is assuming this responsibility. An
invitation is extended to all ladies of
the community to attend this meeting,

Be Re-Opened

tions, for the last five months is to
be re-opened on the evening of Dec.

something should be done about pro-
viding a more comfortable, modern
convenient hall for social activities in

which was built in 1885 and was in
need of repairs. The idea e,%ittually
won the approval and backing of tire
township council and local residents
and so the hall has been remodelled.
The committee in charge was form-
ed by representatives from the town-
ship council, E. J. Farrish and Roy
Gowdy; from the village trustees,
W. C, King; Connnunity Club Nor-
man Wade; Lions Club Knowlson
Heuston; Women's Institute, Mrs.
Percy Ashton; Public Library, Mrs,
Geo. King.
The floor of the hall has been raised
three feet and a fine basement exca-
vated beneath it with furnace, banquet
hall; kitchen, a room to house the
Gorrie Public Library and toilets.
The hall has a new steel roof and new
ceiling of Ten Test. The interior is
being decorated and will present a
much more cheerful appearance. A 14
ft, addition at the front of the hall
covers entrances to auditorium, lib-
rary and basement.
Funds are being raised by the gov-
ernment grant of 25% to community
centres, a grant from the Township
council, grants from the village, Com-
munity Club, Lions Club and Library,
while the Women's Institute are equip-
ping the kitchen. Local groups will
continue to raise money for the build-
ing fund by various social activities.
