Wingham, Mr. Chas. J. Rintoul of
East Wawanosh, has purchased the
chopping mill at the north end of Jos-

Bluevale—Mr. Louis B. Duff of
Welland, an old Bluevale boy, is a
candidate for the presidency of the
Ontario Hockey Association.

TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO
Peter McArthur, author and philo-
sopher, beloved of Canadians, died in
Victoria Hospital, London. At the
suggestion of the Lion's Club, work
has commenced on fixing up the Ar-
ena which has been an eye-sore since
the wind storm took the roof off on
Nov. 29, 1919. The end cement wall
will be moved back 20 feet making
the ice space 80x180 feet, Directors
appointed were;--J. A. MacLean, W.
H, Gurney, J, W, Hanna, Amos Tip-
ling, T, J. McLean, with Abner Cos-
ens as Sec. It is hoped to have the
rink completed for the skating season.
Bread has increased to 11c a loaf in
Wingham bakeries. About fifteen sol-
dier boys marched to service in St.
Paul's Church on Sunday evening, in
charge of Lieut. Hal. MacLean and
Capt. A. M. Forbes. Rev. H. Snell
gave an appropriate discourse and
Mr, Chris. Templeman sang, "There
is no Death." The following students
were home for the holiday: Mary Cos-
ens, Muriel Redmond, Nina Haugh,
Arthur Irwin and David Perrie from
Toronto; Dorothy Snell, Ethel Simp-
son and James Allan from London;
Helen Wilson from Guelph.
Whiteclinrch—Mr. John Gillespie
met v ith an unfortunate accident,
",;ten his car turned over on Dickey's
Hill, pinning him in the cold water of
the ditch. Mr. John McMillan happen-

Hamburg, has purchased the creamery
from Harold Hammond.
Belgrave—The meeting of the w,

EMMEN YEARS AGO
The stores of Wingham were very
busy on Friday and Saturday when
the merchants held their Twin Dollar
Day Sale, On Tuesday evening, R, J.
Bowman of Brussels, D.D,G.M,, paid
his official visit to Wingham Lodge,
A.P. & A.M., No. 286, At the Novem-
ber Council meeting, Conn. G. L.
Baker was appointed acting Mayor
daring the absence of Mayor Hanna.
The Curling Club organized for the
coming year and elected officers:—
Hon. Pres.,' C. 13. Armitage; Pres.,
J. A. Wilson; Vice-Pres., Jas. Mur-
ray; Sec-Treas., Dr, A. W. Irwin. The
meeting of the WC.T,U, was held at
the home of Mrs, A. E. Lloyd and was
conducted by Mrs. Tyndall, with Mrs.
P. Gowans giving the talk. Mr. and
Mrs. A. M, Crawford left by motor
for Florida where they will spend the
winter. After the close of school on
Friday, the pupils of the Public School
paraded to the Cenotaph where a short
service of Remembrance was held, led
by the Principal, Mr, A. L, Posliff, A
wreath was placed by B4ly Scott and
Billy Sturdy, Mr. John Campbell of
Whitechurch passed away at the age
of .83 years, Mrs, W. B. Rintoul is a
daughter,
Wroxeter—The members of the W.
entertained their husbands to a
banquet. Speeches were given by T,
Brown, A, Munro, IL Tiatm, R, Stocks
and M. Sellers, The Institute are re-
sponsible for the planting of tulip bulbs
on the lawns of the local churches, Dr.
and Mrs. Smith are in town from
Detroit, owing to the illness of her
father, Mr. Geo. Town, Mr, G. L.
McEwen is building a large covered
entrance to the chopping mill. The
people of this community learned with
regret of the death of Miss Margaret
Bennett, after a lingering illness. She
had been employed in the office of
The Rowick Mutual Fire Insurance
Co.'
Scarlet cloth for the dress coats of
the Mounties is turned out in Sher-
brooke, Que. The dye formula is sec-
ret.
TURNBERRY SCHOOL ,
BOARD MEETING
The regular monthly meeting of the
Turnberry Township School Area
Board was held in No, 9 school on
Thursday, Nov. 17th, at 8.30 p.m. All
members present.
The minutes of the previous meeting
were read and adopted. Mr. Stone was
present representing the Book of
Knowledge. No action was taken.
Mr. Gordon Wray, the truant offic-
er, was present and gave a report of
his work.
Motion by Willits and Powell that
the school attendant's officer's report
be accepted. Carried.
Motion by Powell and Hardie that
new blinds be purchased for No. 9
School. Carried.
Motion by Kirton and Willits dint
the Board advertise for caretakers for
1950. Carried.
Hardie reported that a number of
windows had been broken at No. 7
school. It was decided to board up all
the windows.
Motion by Willits and Kirton that
the Board attend the annual Convent-
ion at Guelph on the 23rd. of Nov.
