Anniversaryy services in the United
Church on July 31st,, drew large con-
gregations at both morning and even-
ing services, when Rev. Russel Horse-
burg of Creighton Mines, a former
Fordwich boy was the guest speaker.
Miss Verna Parsons, nurse-in-train-
ing at Woodstock General Hospital, is
spending her vacation at the home of
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold
Parsons,
Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Tretheway of
Stratford, are holidaying at the home
of the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Ira Schaefer.
Mr, Jas. Brown of Sault Ste Marie,
and daughter, Schroder, of Ocean
Falls, B. C., were recent visitors with
the former's brother, Mr. Wm. Brown
and with other relatives.
Mr. and Mrs, Hamar Pletch and
daughters, were recent visitors with
Mr. Pletch's sister, Mrs, Roy Gadcke,
and Mr. Gadcke and also with her
brother, Mr. Chas, Black and Mrs,
Black.
Mr. Arthur Dobson of California,
and Misses Mabel, Marjorie and Gert-
rude of ,Toronto, were recently in
Fordwich renewing old acquaintances.
All four are children of the late Rev.
and Mrs. A, 13. Dobson. Mr. Dobson
was the Presbyterian minister at Ford-
wich and Gorrie for 23 years leaving
Fordwich in 1917.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Wendt of Tor-
onto, spent the Civic Holiday week-
end with the latter's parents, E. A.
and Mrs. 'Schaefer.
Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Higgins Honoured
A large gathering met in the Com-
munity Hall on Thursday evening,
July 28th, to honor Mr. J. A. Higgins,
principal of the school for the past
seven years also Mrs. Higgins and
their two children, Joanne and Wayne,
before their departure to Drumbo,
where Mr, Higgins has been engaged
as principal. Mr. Ward Schaefer acted
as chairman for a short program.
Mr, Harold Pollock read an address
expressing regret at the loss of Mr.
and Mrs. Higgins from the commun-
ity. On behalf of the ratepayers of
the school section they were presented
with a chrome craft kitchen table, and
to Joanne, a gold identification brace-
let and to Wayne an express wagon.
From the local softball and hockey
clubs, they received an electric sand-
wich toaster, and from the Women's
Institute, Mrs. Higgins received a Life
Membership pin. Lunch and an enjoy-
able social time followed, Mr. and
Mrs. Higgins moved to their new
home on Monday.

Morrison received the prize for the
mother present, with the youngest
child, and Mrs. Earle Caslick received
the prize for the latest grandmother.
Lunch Was• served and all enjoyed the
afternoon's outing,
Tiffin relatives in this district were
in Lucknow attending the funeral of
the late Mrs, D. A. MacDonald on
Thursday. She was formerly Sarah
Tiffin of Langside. Interment was in
Kinloss cemetery.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Lettner and
family,of Toronto, spent the week-end
with Wawanosh relatives.
Born-In Wingham General Hospi-
tal on Saturday, August 13th, to Mr.
and Mrs. Alex Hamilton (Beatrice
Beecroft) of !Gorrie, a son.
Miss Eileen Snell of London, spent
the week-end with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Stanley Snell.
Miss Joyce Robinson spent last week
at the home of her uncle, Mr. George
Robinson, Wingham.
The Executive of the Y.P.U. of
Huron Presbyterial conducted the ser-
vices in Belgrave and Brick United
Churches on Sunday. Miss Elaine
Walsh was in charge of the Belgrave
Choir.
Next Sunday the services will be in
charge of Belgrave Sunday School.
Wingham carpenters and plumbers
have been employed at the home of
Mr. Leslie Wightman during the past
week, making extensive improvements,
Mr. Spence of Toronto, has purchas-
ed the Carrick property here in the
village and°expects to move here this
month.

Rev. and Mrs. Geo, Dunlop and

and Norma Brydges have returned
home after spending the summer at
Toronto Normal School.

Girls' Camp which opened at Goder-
ich on Sunday for a week. Miss Barb-
ara Michie, Miss Elaine Walsh, R.M.
T., and Miss Fairy Fells are instruct-
ors at the camp,
Messrs, Ken Scott, Prank Cooper,
Jim and Wendell McCallum left on
Tuesday for a motor trip to the West.
They expect to visit the Coast before "NV
they return home.
Mr, and Mrs. Wni. Kelly have mov-
ed to their new home which they pur-
chased from Mr. Harry McGuire,
Mr, Trevor Moores spent the week-
end in London.
Mr, and Mrs. Gibson Armstrong (4

spent the week-end at their home here.

WEDDINGS
A wedding of local interest took
place at St. Paul's Anglican Church
Rectory, on Saturday. August 6th,
when Rev. E. 0. Lancaster united in
marriage, Rose Marie, daughter of
Mr. and. Mrs. Fred Ohm, Wingham,
to Charles Oliver Doll, Brussels, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Doll, Hamil-
ton.
For her wedding, the bride chose a
floor-length gown of pink taffeta,
with white accessories. She wore a cor-
sage of yellow roses and cornflowers.
Her only attendant, Miss Irene
King, wore an afternoon frock of pink
taffeta.
The groom was attended by Fred
Ohm, brother of the bride. Following
the ceremony a reception was held in
the Brunswick Hotel.
For their wedding trip the bride
donned a light blue gabardine suit with
black accessories. Mr. and Mrs. Doll
will reside in Brusels.
Jacklin - Dawson
The United Church at Star City,
Sask., was the scene of a pretty
wedding, when Jean Beatrice, second
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. B,
Dawson was united in marriage to
Clarence Albert Roy Jacklin, son of
Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Jacklin. The Rev.
J. B. Spenceley, B. A., of Tisdale,
performed the ceremony.
Entering the church on the 'inn
of her father, to the strains of Loh-
rengrin's wedding march, the bride
was lovely in a floor-length gown of
white embroidered organdie with net
yoke, fitted bodice caught with. pearls
and full skirt which featured a booked
peek-a-boo petticoat. She wore a
chapel veil with headdress of silver
sequins and carried a bouquet of red
roses and fern. Her jewellty was a
locket and chain, a gift from the
groom,
The bridesmaid was Miss Irene
Dawson, sister of the bride. Her dress
of pale blue organdie was identical
in style to that of the bride's. She
wore a matchiag chapel veil and car-
ried a bouquet of pink roses and fern,
The groom was attended by his
brother, Thomas H. Jacklin, The ush-
ers were: Messrs. Sidney $,tathain and
John Pace. Mrs. Earl Smith presided
at the organ. Decorations of pink and
white and vases of sweet peas made
a pleasing setting. The bride's gift to
the groom was a Ronson lighter, The
groom's gift to the groomsman was a
ball point pen. Gifts to the brides-
maid and the organist were china cups
and saucers.
Following the ceremony fifty guests
were received at the home of the brid-
es parents, The ibride'S mother wore

past three weeks here and at Lucknow.

ient in the Wingham General Hospi-
etal. Her many friends hope for a
speedy recovery.
Mrs. Mel Brown and Bobby Murdie
of Waterloo, spent last week with Mr.
and. Woods. She returned
home on Saturday with Mr. and Mrs.
Lorne Woods and Donna and Mr.
and Mrs. R. Woods. On their return
they were accompanied by Mrs. Alex
