don Conference held, in Sarnia from
Tuesday to Friday of last week,.

FORDWICH
Mr, and Mrs. Ross Barrows of Cor-
dova Mines, Ont., have been -recent
visitors with the latter's mother, Mrs.
T. Bennett and with other ts:elatives
in the community,
Members of Fordwich Women's In-
$'titute were hostesses to the East
Huron District W.I. annual meeting
on Tuesday at which there was a fine
attendance,
Mr. Joseph A. Higgins principal of
the Fordwich Public School for the
past seven years, has resigned and has
been engaged as principal of the
Drumbo Public School, Joe has taken
an active part hi local sports sirt6e
coining to the village. Both he and
Mrs. Higgins will be greatly missed.

Rev, Harold Nickle, rector of St.
George's Church, Harriston, received
the degree of Master of Arts at the
Spring Convocation of Toronto Utiiy
versity. Mr. Nickle is a son-irvlaw of

Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Cooper was one
of the 63 members of the graduating
class of Victoria Hospital, London.
Graduating exercises took place on
May 31st, and diplomas were present-
ed b ythe Governor General.
Mrs. Alex Robinson is a patient in
the Wingham General Hospital suf-
fering from a heart condition.

ited Church which met in Sarnia last
week.
Mrs. B. Greaves, Mrs. Johnston
and daughter, Miss Gladys Johnston,
Galt, were week-end visifors at the
home of Air. and Mrs. Gco: Baker.
Mr. 'and Mrs. J. H. Riddell also of
Galt, were guests at the same home
on Friday night and Saturday.

S. S. Anniversary
Successful Sunday School Anniver-
sary Services were held in the 1.1nit41
Church on Sunday, Jane 5th, with Rev
G. G, Howse in charge, Mr, Alex.
Smith of Dungannon, was the guest
speaker and his address on "Personal
Faith" was of interest to children and
adults alike,
For the flower service the primary
class came forward carrying red peo-
nies and junior members of the S, S.
carried snowballs, These were placed
among evergreens in the choir loft by
members,
Junior members of the S. S. formed
the choir for the morning service. One
of the members, Lorne Mann, sang a
solo "The Beautiful Garden of Prayer"
which was greatly enjoyed, The even-
ing service was in charge of the Y.P.
U. Mr. Smith chose as hi$ subject
"Self Respect", Mr, John Neilson of
Listowel, rendered two fitting solos
which were enjoyed by all. MT. Neil-
son is always a welcome visitor to his
home town.

Mr. and Airs, Robert Hall, Wing-
ham, and Mr. and Mrs. Orton Grain,
Listowel, were among the Anniversary
visitors at their homes here.
Mrs. Sam McBurney, Mrs. Frank
Thompson, and Mr. and Mrs. G. M.
Shiell were in London on Tuesday
attending the Graduation Exercises at
Victoria Hospital, when Miss Doro-
thy McBurney, daughter of Mrs. Mil-
ton McBurney of London, Was among
the graduates. •
Miss Doris Shiell commenced work
in the office at the United Farmers
Co-operative, Wingham on Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. Elgin Porter and fam-
ily of Bayfield, visited at the home
of their friend, Mrs, Gilbert Beecroft
and with McBurney relatives on Sun,-
day.
Mr. Victor Emerson is' busy these
days putting a steep roof on Mr. Ed-
ward McBurney's barn.
Mr. and Mrs, Ernest Beecroft and
sons, spent Wednesday at Freeport,
with her sister, Mrs. J. Hertle.

their regular June meeting on Tuesday
14th, as a quilting in the church

its June Supper Meeting in the Orangd
Hall, Gorrie on Thursday evening.
The 1949-50 officers will be installed
by District Deputy governor - Bert

General Hospital on Tuesday 'for an
operation on his -leg,
The Huron County Holstein Breed-
er's, Association, second annual tour
was held June 2nd. Starting from Ex-
eter at '7 a,m., the group arrived, 'at
10 a.m. at Glenafton Farm, the home
of J. J. E. M6Cague. In the afternoon
they visited the River Farms owned.

A monster picnic, will be held in the
Belgrave park, on Friday, June 10th,
arranged by East Wawanosh School
Area. Over four hundred children are
expected to participate in the races,
games, etc, Every family is asked to

served by the school .board.

Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Switzer spent

held last week in Belleville.
Mrs. A. Toner has moved to her
home in the village, which she pur-
chased in March, the former home of
Mrs. Wm. Earugey.
Mrs. Ed. Stewart is visiting in De-
troit.
Mr. and Mrs, Arthur Ferguson of
London, were week-end guests of the
former's uncle. Dr. 'Whitely and Mrs.
Whitely.
Rev. R. C. Copeland of Pickering
has been transferred from the Tor-
onto Conference to the Liindon Con-
ference and has been sationed at
Springfield in Elgin County,
Mr. and Mrs, J, H, Riddell of Galt,
were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Norman
Wade on Saturday evening and Sun-
day. .,
Air. and Mrs, W. H, Marshall are
visiting their son, Mr, Alex. Marshall
and Mrs, Marshall in Stratford.
Mr. and Mrs. Ira McLean and fam-
ily, Wroxeter, were Sunday guests of
Air, and Mrs, Archie Miller. ,
Mr. and Mrs. Earl King attended
the funeral of Mrs. King's cousin,
Malcolm Adams, who was killed in a
motor accident. Funeral service was
in Brussels on Thursday.
Mr. Mertyn Stephens of Thorndale
has been engaged as Principal of
Central School, Goderich.
Mr. Tom Earl left on Monday on a
trip to the West.
Rev. .J, RnVatt of Manitoba has
been appointed to the Gorrie United
Chruch to succeed Rev. 'G, G. Howse
who goes to Alvinston, Lambton
County, at the beginning of the con-
ference year, July 1st, ,
Mr. and Mrs, Lloyd Jacques, Nancy
and Billy, of Lakelet, visited with Mr.
and Mrs. Harold Robinson on Sun-
day.
Mr. Harry Templeman attended a
Veterans/ Convention at Port Elgin on
Sunday. Mrs. Templeman and fam-
ily accompanied him.
Mac Hutchison of St. Catharines
spent the holiday week-end at his
home,
A number of the Cathers family at-
tended the Cathers' Re-Union Picnic
held in Listowel on Saturday.
Mrs. Neilson has returned to her
home after spending some nine at the
home of her son, John, and, Mrs. Neil-
son in Listowel, where she was ill for
some time.
The Girls' Auxiliary of St. Stephen's
Church quilted a quilt at the home of
Miss Erla Newton on Friday evening.
Mr. W. C. King was in Ldndon on
Friday. ,
Mr, Everett Sparling of Listowel
has purchased a baking business in
Harriston. He wag formerly employ-
ed at Zurbrigg's Bakery, Listowel.
but for the past year has been attend-
ing the Ryerson School of Technology
in Tomtit°, and graduated recently.
Reeve and Mrs. E. J. Farrish were
in Goderich on Thursday evening
where Mr. Farrish, president of the
North Huron Liberal Association, was
chairman for the public meeting in the
Agricultural Park, which was address-
ed by Prime Minister Louis St.
Laurent. •••
The Gorrie ball team on Tuesday
evening last played with Fordwich at
the park here, score was Gorrie 20,
Fordwich 10, and on Friday night
with Bluevale the score was 'Gorrie 19,
Bluevale 9.
The Ven. Archdeacon J. N. H. Mills
B.A., Diocesan Commissioner, will oc-
cupy the pulpit ,in St, Stephens Angli-
can Church on Sunday next,
Women's Institute
The June meeting of the Gorrie W.
I. will be held at the home of Mrs.
Sandy Edgar on Tuesday, June 14th
at 2.30 p.m. The program will be in
charge of Miss Margaret Dane, Agric-
and Cana, Industries convener. The
roll call will be "My worst insect pest
and its control". Cars will leave Ste-
phen's store at 2,15 p.m.
Gorrie Does Well for Red Cross Drive
Mr. Harvey Sparling, Red Cross
treasurer, reports that Gorrie and dis-
trict have raised a total of $658.10 i4
the recent canvas made for the Red
Cross, Although slightly short of the
increased objective for this year it is
a very fine contribution.

The Women's Missionary Society
met with the C,G.I.T, group in the
school room on Friday night, June 3rd
for the re-affiliation service presented'
by the girls, '
Mrs. Harold Edgar presided for the
devotional period, The hymn "Break
Thbu the Bread of Life"'was sung and
Psalm 145 was read. Betty Zimmer-
mane, president of the C.G.I.T, de-
clared their friendship with teen age
girls in the United Church of Canaada
and in sister churches overseas. Mrs.
Mrs. K. Hastie, 2nd vice pres. of the
W. M. S, responded.
An impressive candle lighting exer-
cise was given by Mrs. Harry Temple-
matt as leader; Phyllis Ford, Eleanore
Stephens, Margaret Hiebein and Ray
Catherg lighting candles representing
achievements in the work of the C,G.
