Church News Tlie morning services in the United and Presbyterian Churches were con- ducted by representatives of the Ont- ario Temperance Federation, pointing out the evils Of the liquor traffic and the 'urgent need for reform and for funds to carry on the campaign, Rev, Leland C. Jorgensen was the guest speaker for the Anniversary services at Ashfield Presbyterian Church on Sunday. The Y,p.u, had charge of the even- ing service in the United Church. Fleming Johnston the Citizenship con- vener, conducted the meeting and gave a paper on the topic, "We are all children of God" which was fol- lowed by a good discussion on Citizen- ship led by Rev. J. A. Burden. The meeting open'ed with a sing song of favourite hymns under the direction of Mrs, W. J. Johnston and closed with singing "Abide with Me," Many Enjoyed Concert The people of this community had the opportunity of enjoying a rare treat, during the past week, when the "Davies of Canada, Singing Stars of Today" presented their concert. The group was composed of Vera Hender- son, Davies, Musical Director and ac- companist, Noble Davie, Lyric Bari- tone; Nellie Davie, Dramatic Basso and Frances Davie. Mezzo Soprano. The program composed of solos, duets and trio arrangement was an ev- ening of musical enjoyment. On behalf of the trustee board of the hall, Mr. J. C. Higgins welcomed and intro- duced the entertainers. The proceeds will be used for the hall fund. Celbrates 90th Birthday Thursday, May 26th, Mr. W. J, Souch of the 3rd line of Morris cele- brated his 90th birthday. During the afternoon several friends called to ex- tend their best wishes. At 5 p.m, a birthday dinner 'was served by his daughter, Mrs. Mildred Stewart, the guests being Mrs. Young, Mrs. Stamp- er, Mrs. V. Errington, Me" David Er- rington and Mr, H. Bosman. 'During the evening neighbors and friends numbering about 80. gathered at the Souch home to honour Mr. Souch on the occasion of his 90th birthday. An address was read by Mr. M. Fraser, after which Mr. W. Harmon presented Mr. Souch with a gift of money from the neighbours. Although the presentation came as a complete surprise, Mr. Souch fitting- ly replied in his own witty manner and thanked the neighbours for the gift. After the presentation a dainty lunch was 'served.
