er, before awarding the order, a secur-
ity deposit in the form of a certified
cheque on a chartered bank in Can-
ada, made payable to the order of the
Honourable the Minister of Public
Works, equal to 10 per cent of the
amount of the tender or Bearer Bonds
of the Dominion of Canada or -of thc
Canadian National Railway Company
and its constituent companies uncon-
ditionally guaranteed as to •principal
and interest by the Dominion of Can-
ada, or the aforementioned bonds, and
a certified cheque, if required to make
up an odd aMount.
Such security will serve as a guar-
antee for the proper fulfilment of the

Sask.," is spending a .week with her
sister, ,Mrs. David Armstrong.
Mr. and Mrs. George Jage and -
family and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Page
and family of Detroit, called on Mr.
and Mrs,. Harold Vincent on Monday
to visit their old home which they
sold to Mr. Albert Vincent over thirty-
two years ago.
The Midgest played. in Westfield
on Monday night to win their fourth
game of the season with a score of
16-10.

onic Lodge as well as other lodges
in the district were in Teeswater on
Thursday evening, whey' Dr. Fowler,
well-known dentist; wag' honored viiith
presentation of a Jewel marking fifty
years membership in the Masonic '
Lodge, Dr. Fowler, although 86 years'
of age has a splendid memory and his
interest in Masonry has not lessened.

The regular meeting of the W.A. of
St. Stephen's Church, will be held at
the home of Mrs. Frank King oil
Thursday, June 2nd., at 2.30 p.m" The
theme for roll call and the meeting will
be "Glory."
Silver Wedding Celebration
Many friends joined with Reeve E.
J. and Mrs. Parrish on Friday even-
ingk in celebrating their silver wedd-
ing anniversary, when (lancing Was
enjoyed in the Township Hall to the
music of Brown's orchestra. Pro-
gressive euchre was played in the
Orange Hall. Prize winners at euchre
were: Mrs. Jas. Doig and Mr. Harry
Hastie. Holders of lucky tickets re-
ceiving prizes were Mrs. Warren Zur-
brigg and Mr. Gordon Brown, while
in. the Town Hall Miss Edith Harris,
Toronto, and Mr. R. Pinder, Mt. For-
est, were winners. Mr, -and Mrs.
Parrish were called, to the platform
by Mr. David Neilson and Deputy-
Reeve Harry Gowdy presented them
with a silver pitcher from members of
the Howick Council. Mrs. E. E. Well-
ington and Mrs. Fred Hyndman also
made a presentation of a silver cream
and sugar and tray. candle holders
and_ table ornament, on behalf of a
number of friends. Mr. and Mrs. Far-
rish were recipients of many congrat-
ulations and best wishes as well as
other lovely gifts. Mr. Parrish is a
native of Ashfield Township and. Mrs.
Famish is the former Hilda White, of
Holstein. They ha'•i7e been restlents
of Howick for a number of years ,,and
taken an active paft in church and
community affairs.
Lorne Walker Loses Barn--by Fire
Mr. 'Lorne Walker's large barn and
drive shed werd destroyed by fire at
noon on Monday. The fire had spread
rapidly before it was noticed by the
family, who were at dinner and noth-
ing could be done to save it. A bull,
9 calves, 16 pigs a number of hens.and
a quantity of grain were burned. A
new steel roof had just been put on the
barn. The Wingham Fire Brigade-
Was called but arrived too late to do
anything. The house was not in dan-
ger as the wind was blowing sparks in
the opposite direction, Cause of the
fire is not known.
A large gathering of Howick's pub-
lic school pupils were here Monday
for the annual field day.
