apples
5 red or green cherries
1/4 cup shortening 1/4 teaspoon vanilla

First—Melt butter in 7 or 8 inch square baking dish, add brown
sugar and spread the mixture evenly over the bottom of the

St. Valentine's Day was an oppor-
tunity for parties and Valentine Post
Offices in the district -schools. Treats
of candy etc., were enjoyed by the
children, St. Valentines Day is a red
Vetter day in the school life and will
be long remembered.
World Day of Prayer
The World Day of Prayer for
Wroxeter, and district will be held
in the United Church school room on
Friday, March 4th. at 3 p.m.'The 1949
programme has been prepared by the
World Day of Prayer Committee of
the United States of America in con-
sultation with groups of consecrated
Christian Chinese Women in different
parts of China, The theme, "The
Lord is Thy Keeper" psalm 121: 5.
Mrs, U. E. Cronhielm will give the
address. There will be special music,

spent last week-end with her parents,

The regular monthly meeting of
the W.M.S. of the Prebyterian church
was held on Thursday at the home of
Mrs, 5, F, MacLean, with the presi-
dent, Mrs. W, S. Sutherland in charge.
Mrs. Jas. McInnis led in the respon-
lye reading of Matthew 25, on Talents,
meaning our ability to dp things, some
having more and some, less. Mrs.
Dawson Craig led in prayer for the
Missionaries. The roll-call was ans-
wered by a Bibical verse with the word,
Obey. Arrangements were made for a
part of -the program of the. Day of
Prayer, being held in the United
Church on March 4th. The Society
was invited to hold their next meeting
at the manse, and the roll call will be
answered with a verse containing the
word, Shepherd. Mrs. Sutherland led
in the Offertory prayer. Mrs, Lott was
in charge of the first chapter of the
new Study Book, Enter China, by Miss
Louise Reith. The subject was, To
undertand the present, look to the.
Past, Mrs. Johnston Conn led in the
Glad Tidings Prayer. The financial
report of the W.M.S. for the past year
is as follows. Sent to Treasurer, 174.42,
from this sum the ladies presented Life
Memberhip Certificates to two valued'
members, Mrs. Robert Mowbray and
Mrs. W. J. Coulter. Home Helpers,
$34.25, Bale $15.00. The Mission Band
sent in over $21; and a bale valued at
$8., and presented three Jr, certificates
to Betty and Richard Newman and
Jean Gaunt. The meeting was closed
by repeating the Lord's Prayer in
unison. Lunch was served and a vote
of thanks was tendered the hostess,
Mr, MacLean and also hearty congrat-
ulations on the occasion of Mr. and
Mrs. MacLean's forty-fifth wedding
anniversary.
The Mission Band meeting of the
Presbyterian Church was held on Sat-
urday, last, with the Preident, Miss
Marjorie Elliott in the chair. Billie
Newman and Angus Sutherland led in
prayer and Betty Newman led in the
responsive reading of part of Genesis,
Chap. 37. Mrs. Ezra Welwood told the
Bible Story, Part of the Life of
Joseph, and Richard Newman led in
the. offertory prayer. The topic,
Where can one find such a Story, was
taken by Mrs. Craig, from the Study
Book, Around the World with the
Bible, telling how the Bible is being
found out in India. The meeting was
closed, repeating the Lord's Prayer.
Mrs. Jas. MeIlrath spent the past
week with relatives in Toronto.

Farrier, president closed the meeting
with prayer. The next meeting will be
the quarterly tea, and will be held in
