before going West. It is 30 years since
he visited Ontario.
Mr. Pearson Rolph, who has been
a patient in Victoria Hospital, Lon-
don, for. five weeks has returned to
the ,home of his daughter, Mrs. Mann
and Roy.
At the Y.P,U, meeting in the
United Church on Sunday evening, at
8.15 p.m., Anne Breckenridge, Chris-
tian Culture Secretary, will preside.

A large crowd gathered in the
Memorial Hall on Thursday (Netting
to see the pictures presented by the
National Film Board. These proved
to be about the best that had been
shown, and all were pleased to see
the pictures of the Royal Winter Fair
and of the fishing fleet at Luneeburg.
The regular monthly meeting of the
W.M.S. of the United Church was
held on Wednesday at the home of
Mrs. W. R. Farrier, with othe Presi-
dent, Mrs. Victor Emerson in charge
of the meeting and using the Wor-
ship service in the Missionary Month-
ly with the Theme, The Christian
World at the Feet of Jesus Christ,
Mrs. W. J. Watt and Mrs. T. H.
Moore read the scripture lessons from
Matthew and Luke, and using the
Carols, ,Mrs. Mac Ross led in prayer.
Mrs. W, 'R. Farrier played a piano
solo, "Silent Night." Those who took
part in the Candle lighting service
were, Mrs. 3. G. Gillespie, for fellow
Christians in N. America, Miss Olive
Terriff for Fellow Christians in
America, Mrs. Albert Coultes for fel-
low Christians in Europe, Mrs. E. H.
Groskorth, for those in Asia and Mrs.
Walter James for those in Africa. Mrs.
Emerson finished the Chapter in the
Study Book, West of the Gorges,
and the meeting was turned over to
Rev. G. M. Newton, who duly instal-
led the following officers for the next

were present in the Presbyterian
Church here, one evening last week,
and took recordings of several Christ-
mas Carols and Psalms and Carols for
"Church of the Air" services.
Mrs, Allan McTavish of Lucknow,
visited on Sunday at the home of Mr.
and Mrs, Gordon Elliott. Marjorie
Elliott has been sick for the past two
weeks with the cold and earache.
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Mason of Lis-
towel, spent Suriday with his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. John Mason.
The regelar monthly meeting of the
W.M.S. of the Presbyterian Church
was held on Thursday at the manse,
with the president, Mrs. W. S. Suther-
land, in charge of the meeting. Mrs.
Johnston Conn read the scripture les-
sons, from Isaiah 9, and Luke 2, and
spoke on these verses in the Medita-
tion period. Mrs. Jas. Maclnnis led
in prayer. The roll call was answered
by giving a verse containing the word,
Son; Mrs, Walter Lott was appointed
as supply Sec., and the W.M.S. will
meet at the home of Mrs. Ezra Wel-
wood in January. Mrs. Fred Newman
had the topic, speaking on the similar-
ity of racial relations between the
people of British Guiana and India,
and telling of the work of the Mission-
aries in both places. The meeting was
closed by repeating the Lord's Prayer
in unison.
Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell Elliott mov-
ed last week from Toronto and have'
purchased the McMurray farm two
miles East of Belgrave.

man, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Cronin

Bolt, of Blyth, visited on Sunday at

The "Evergreen Farm Forum" of
the 2nd. and 3rd. line of Grey, will not
hold their meetings until the holiday
season is over. The next meeting will
be held on Monday night, Jan. 3rd,
at the home of -Mr. and Mrs. Walter
MacFarlane,
Mr. George MacKay had the mis-
fortune to have his leg broken, and it
is in a cast. We hopehe will soon be
better, and able to be about again.

MESSER—In Victoria Hospital,
London, on Monday, December
20, Mary Annie Breckenridge, wid-
ow of the late Robert Messer, of
Brussels, in her 75th year, mother
of Walter, Woodman Ave,, London;
Jessie (Mrs. Russell Lemmex) of
Detroit, and Jean (Mrs. Samuel En-
dicott) Toronto. Resting at her
late residence, Brussels, where fu-
neral service will be held on Titers-
day, December 23 at 2:30 p.m. In-
terment in Brussels Cemetery.
Christmas' service of song and Story,"
including all the well known carols
sung in duets aid a quartette and by
the congregation. The quartette was
composed of Mr. and Mrs. Medley
Burden, their daughter, Shirley, and
Rev. J. A. Burden. Duets were sung
by Eleanor Smith and Joyce Hoff-
man, Mrs. Alex McCracken and Mrs.
Hoffman.
The Y.P.U. will hold a service and
social on Friday evening, December
31st, beginning at 9 o'clock. Every-
body welcome.
Miss Margaret Curtis, secretary of
the Women's Institute, and the United
Church Sunday School sent $24.00
to "Save the Children Fund." $5.00
from the former Society and $19.00
from the Sunday School.
Dr. Arthur Shaw and daughter,
Barbara, Toronto, spent Sunday with
the Dr's. mother, Mrs. Arthur Shaw.
The Library will not be open this
week, but will be open on Tuesday
December 28th, from 2 to 5. After the
New Year'e the usual hours will be
observed.

Jean Hall presided over the Christ-
mas meeting of the Mission Band in
the United' Church this week, as an
opening number all sang "This is
Merry Christmas." The roll call was
answered by repeating a verse or line
on the Christmas topic. Birthday
greetings were sung for Mrs. Burden,
Shirley Johnston and Anne Peacock.
Miss Margaret Curtis gave an illus-
trated story in keeping with the spirit
of Christmas, with Ma-Ling, a Chin-
ese girl as the central figure. Follow-
ing is the result of the election of of-

Mr, William MeCorinell of Luck-
now conducted the service in Knox
Presbyterian Chttrch. He spoke on
the word "Behold" as found in the
book of 'Malachi, showing the word to
mean a stop sign on the Highway, of
Life. Christmas hymns were sung.
At the Christmas service in the
United Church on Sunday, Rev. J. A.
Burden's sermon was on "The Nazar-
eth Plan." The choir sang a Christmas
anthem and the congregation sang
Silent Night accompanied by Mrs. W.
J. Johnston at the organ and Mr.
Hedley Burden on the coronet.
Mrs. J. A. Burden had charge of
the Y.P,U. meeting on Sunday even-
ing, which took the form of "A
