OF ST. PAUL'S
The annual meeting and election of
officers of the Junior W.A. of St.
Paul's Anglican Church was held on
Monday evening, December 12th, at
the home of Mrs. (Dr.) Connell.
Following the regular meeting, Rev.
Lancaster conducted the election of
officers which was as follows; Pres-
ident, Winnifred Stanley; 1st. Vice,
Donna Gerrie.; Secretary, Joan Arm-
itage; lAreasurer, Mary Town; Press
Reporter, Eleanor Brown; Programme
Convener, Geraldine Stone, Mrs. Wm.
Connell, Mrs. 0. E. Lancaster and
Mrs. R. E. Armitage were elected
leaders. The meeting was closed with
the Mizpah Benediction,
George Drew Won
the George Drew, the new Progressive
Conservative leader, on Monday won
the Ottawa diiitrict riding of Carleton,
by a majority of (8,901 over the CCF
candidate. As a courtesy the Liberals
did not oppose Mr. Drew's entry into
the Commons.
King To Broadcast Christmas Morn'
The King, though ailing, intends to
make his regular Christmas broadcast
to the Commonwealth, Palace sources
said. The King, now confined to his
bedby a serious arterial ailment of
the legs, will broadcast at 3 p.m.,
(10 a,m. E.S.T.) Christmas Day.
Traffic Fatalities Reach High
Ontario traffic fatalities in Novem-
ber reached an all-time high, High-
ways Minister Ducett reported Sun-
day. He said there were 89 known
'traffic victims in the province in Nov-
ember-17 more than in November,
1947. The total for the first 11 months
of this year was 672, five more than
in the' same period last year. He ap-
pealed for greater driving care during
the approaching holiday season,,,

The sympathy of the community is
extended to Mr, Gordon Smith in the
passing of his father, who went to
the Great Beyond on Saturday in
the Whigham Hospital.

member's purpose, The scripture les-
son was read by John Miamian from
St. Luke's Gospel, Readings were giv-
en by Gwendolyn McDowell and nay.

OBITUARY
Edwin P. Smith
Edwin P. Smith, resident of Wing-
ham for 50 years, died in Wingliam
General Hospital, on Saturday, Dec.
18th, after a long illness. He was in
his 77th year,
Born in Huron County, he was a
wood finisher and cabinet maker by
trade, He was a member of the Bap-
tiSt Church, a former trustee and
choir member.
His wife, the former Alice Beckett,
predeceased him in 1943, Surviving
are, two daughters and two 'sons,
Mrs. Lloyd (Laura) Hayden, Wing-
hami, Edna, Kitchener, Gordon, West-
field, Marvin of Wingham, There are
eight grandchildren, Four children
predeceased him.
Funeral services were held on Toes-
day, at 2 p.m., at Currie's Funeral
Home, with Rev. 0. 5. Coupland of-
ficiating, Interment was made in
Wingham cemetery.
Mrs. George Boulden
Mrs. George Boulden passed away
on Wednesday, December 8th, at the
home of her sister, Mrs, William
Friend, in Elmwood. The late Mrs.
Boulden, who was in her 81st year,
had been suffering from a heart con-
dition for some time. Deceased, whose
maiden name was Annie Cooper, was
a native of Onondaga, Brant County,
but moved with her family to Bentinck
Township where she was united in
marriage to George Boulden. They
moved to Wingham where she contin-
ued to reside until the death of her
husband four years ago. Since that
time she had made her home with
her sister, Mrs. Friend. Funeral ser-
vices were held on Saturday afternoon,
conducted by Rev. Mr. Sommerell of
the Elmwood United Church.

XMAS MEETING
Election Of Officers
The regular monthly meeting of the
Women's Missionary Society of St
Andrew's Presbyterian Church was
held in the Sunday School Room on
Tuesday afternoon at three o'clock,
with a splendid attendance. The Presi-
dent, Mrs. L, 'Fortune: occupied the
chair and opened the meeting, after
which an interesting article was read
by Mrs. H. McKay.
Following the singing of a Christ-
mas hymn Mrs. John Hanna led in
prayer. Mrs. W. Ford gave the Scrip-
ture reading and the meditation was
given by Mrs. H. McKay and a prayer
by Mrs. Wm. Hammond. After the
singing of another hymn, the chapter
of the current ,Study Book was read
by Mrs. J. W. Scott, which was fol-
lowed up with a very interesting paper
by Mrs. C. Whitfield. After a prayer
by Mrs. H. Aitchison, the secretary's
report was given, also the report of
the Treasurer, and the general busi-

The President, vacated the chair and
Mrs, 3, W. Scott was appointed to pre-
side during the installation of the new
officers, which ceremony was conduct-
ed by Mrs. Alex Nimrao, .A few well
chosen remarks were given by the new
President, Mrs. L. Fortune.
A very pleasant feature of the after-
noon was the presentation of Attend-
ance Certificates to the different mem-
bers of the Happy Glener's Mission
Band. These presentations were made
by Mrs. H. F. McGee and Mrs, D:
Rae, A lovely duet "Holy Night", by
Billy and Bobby Rintoul, was very
much enojyed.
The closing hymn was song and the
meeting was closed with prayer by
Mrs, Hastings.
Culross Forum
The Culross Alps Forum met on
Monday, December 13th, at the home
of Mr, and Mrs. Wm. Caslick with an
attendance of 19.
The discussion period 'Let's go to
the Movies" was led by Tom Nickel.
It was agreed that 25 per cent of the
commercial films woud be better not
shown, but this' is not the fault of the
local theatre, as they have to buy the
poor along will the good. The next
meeting will be held at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Ross McRae. The rest
of the evening was spent in progres-
sive euchre, with high prizes going to
Mrs. Lorne Edwards and Ross Mc-
Rae and consolation to Mrs. Lorne
McAllister and Tom Nickel. A tasty
lunch served by the hostess brought
the meeting to a close.
