St. James Guild Annual
The Ladies' Guild of St. James An-
glican Church held the annual election
of officers in the church rooms on
Tuesday, Dec. 8th. The meeting open-
ed with words of prayer in unison;
minutes were approved as read; roll
call was responded to by payment of
fees. Plans were completed for the

Sunday school anniversary program
and Christmas tree social which will
take place Dec. 14th. Two new mem-
bers, Mrs. Ed. Walker and Mrs. Al-
bert Evans, were welcomed into the
Guild. Rev. J. C. Caley spoke words
of appreciation for the splendid sup-
port and full hearted co-operation in
all undertakings in our now passing
church year, he then conducted 'the
election of officers. Mrs. McKenney,
who has held the office of president
for several years was respectfully and
unanimously requested to remain in
that office, she declined with words of
sincere appreciation. The new slate of
officers for 1949 as follows: Hon. Pres
Mrs. Isabel Davey; Pres., Mrs. Geo.
Griffith; 1st Vice Pres., Mrs. George
Edwards; Seey-rTeas.. IMrs, H. V.
McKenney; Visiting committee, Mrs.
E. Lawrence, Mrs. Edwards; Altar
Guild, Mrs. G. Griffith, Mrs. C. Law-
rence; Pianist, Mrs. J. C. Caley; audi-
tors, Miss Maggie Griffith, Mrs. Ber-
nard Millward. The new' president,
Mrs, Griffith, took charge of the meet-
ing, when Christmas carols were sung
and prayer by Rev, Caley closed the
last meeting of the old year. A social
period was enjoyed by all, when the
hostesses, Mrs. Lawrence and Mrs.
,Edwards surprised the group with a
most dainty repast and a treat of
Christmas cake.

conduct Christmas service at which
Holy Communion will be celebrated,
Sunday next, December 19th at 4 p.m,

Wroxeter Women's Institute re-
port of their meeting held Dec. 1st.;
at Mrs, Alvin Moffat's omitted a spec-
ial word of appreciation on behalf of
the members, extended to the curtain
committee, Mrs. Allen Munro, ;Mrs.
William McLean and Mrs, William
Hart, also there was an appeal by the
president, Mrs. McKenney for the
support of the "Christmas Seal" cam-
paign in this territory sponsored by
the local Lions Club.
Mr, and Mrs. H. V. McKenney
visited in Brussels, one evening last
week with Mr, and Mrs. Alkin Rami,
They were pleased to find Mr. Dick
Rann enjoying good health. he has re-
cently returned from Toronto where
he visited with Dr. and Mrs. Spence.
Short Course In January
On Tuesday, Dec. 7th, a group of
interested people in Howick township
met with representatives of the Dept.
of Agriculture to discuss the putting
on of a one month course in agricul-
ture and home economics in the town-
ship centre at Gorrie. IA is proprosed
to start this course Monday, Jan. 10,
and conclude it Friday, Feb. 4. The
classes will be held each day Monday
through Friday from 9.30 a,m. to 4 p.
m. The boys course will deal with
live Stock, judging, field crops . soils,
farm machinery and other allied sub-
jects. There will be a registration fee
of $1.00 to cover incidental expenses.
The remainder of the course is free.
To begin the course there must be a
guaranteed enrolment of not less than
15 boys and 15 girls, Anyone from
the age of 15 to 25 years for the girls
and 15 up for the boys.
While this course is being sponsored
by Howick Township, the surround-
ing district will also have the privilege
of taking the course. Applications
must be made by Friday, Dec. 17. The
presidents of the Women's Institutes
McKibbons
in Gorric, Fordwich and Wroxeter are
a committee to receive applications and
give further information. In Wroxet-
er, Mrs. H. V. ,McKenney is in charge.
This is a real opportunity for the
young people of the village and sur-

Christmas Services
The Christmas 7aervices of the Unit-
ed Church will be held Sunday next,
Dec: 19th, at 11 a.m. Rev. U. E. CrOn-
hielm will be in charge and the choir
under the direction of Mr. G. A. Wear-
ring with Miss Mary 'Gibson, organist
are preparing special music. On Dec..
26th there will be the usual morning
service and in the evening at 7.30, a
carol service to which all are cordially
invited.

Miss Betty Finley of_London, spent
the week-end with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. David Finley.
Alr. and Mrs. L. R. Schroeter and
daughter, Karen, who spent the past
month with Mr. and Mrs. David Fin-
ley, left for Ottawa wEere they will
visit for a few days before returning
to Calgary, Alta.

B.Y.W.M.C,
The Christmas meeting of the Y.
W.M.C. was held at the home of Mrs.
Frank Collar on Thursday evening.
The Vice-President, Miss Mildred
Jones, opened the meeting with a poem
entitled "The Birth of Jesus" and
Mrs, Gen. Scott led in prayer, 'rho
scripture lesson, taken from St.
Luke's account of the birth of Christ,
was read by Miss Doris Clarke fol-
lowing which Mrs: Alvin Procter gave
a devotional talk on the Christmas
story, basing her remarks on Isaiah
9,-6, and Matthew 1-23,
Mrs. Reg. Collar read letters which
she had received from Miss Laura
Collar, Missionary in . Africa, Follow-
ing a season of prayer, the hymn "Oh
Come All Ye Faithful" was sung.
The topic for the evening was on
the China Inland Mission and a study
of its origin and work and progress
!was given by Miss Vivian MacLean,
igi88 Mildred Tones, Miss Ruth Can-
teloti and Mrs. Glenn Seheifele,
Miss Helen Louise Pocock favoured
with a solo, "tow in a.Manger." Mrs.
Bruce MacLean read a portion front
the study book, "Adrift" and Miss
Mildred Jones dismissed the Meeting
With prayer. A Social half hour was
enjoyed.
