FEDERATION OF TEACHERS MEET The Ontario Men's Federation of Public School Teachers of the Huron- Perth District met last Friday even- ing in the United Church in Mitchell to enjoy a banquet prepared by the ladies of that church. Following the banquet a meeting, of the Federation was held. The program under the chairmanship of the Presi- dent, Mr. T. S. Beattie,--commenced with a lively sing-song after which the men were entertained by an elocution- ist from' Stratford. The Secretary, Mr. Grant Kropf of Stratford, was felicitated on the recent arrival of a daughter. The main speaker of the evening, Mlf, Winston Davies was introduced by Mr. Crawford, Stratford. Mr. Dav- ies is the full time Provincial Secretary of the Federation, The meeting was also addressed briefly by Inspectors Edwards and Kinkead. The election of officers was then. conducted by the President, Mr. T. S. Beattie ,of Wingham. Following the election of officers, the meeting was adjourned. TEMPERANCE FR MET AT CLINTON Officers Elected For Coming Year J, H. Campbell, Belgrave,' was elect- ed president of Huron County Temper- ance Federation at the annual meeting held in •Ontario St. United Church, Clinton, last week. Other officers elected were: Honorary Presidents, Mrs, Gordon Lamb, Goderich; Miss Jean Murray, Hensall; Mr. A. T. Cooper, Clinton. 1st. Vice, Mr. Elgin McKinley, Zur- ich; 2nd. Vice, Mr., Roy Cousins, Brus- sels; 3rd. Vice, Rev. G. W. H. Medley, Goderich; 4th Vice, Mrs. George Johnston, Goderich; Secretary, Mrs. N. T. Anderson, Goderich; Treasurer, Mr. Frank Howson, Wingham; Ed- ucational Director, Rev. G. Hazel- wood, Walton' Youth Secretary, Rev. A.•'. Hewitt, Aliburn; Chairman Law & Legislation, Mr. A. T. Cooper, Clin- ton; Chairman of Finance, Mr, F. Howson, Wingham; Northern Repre- sentative, Mr. E. G. Zinn, Ashfield; Central Representative, Mr.- C. M. Robertson, Goderich; Southern Rep- resentative, Mr. Horace Delbridge, Woo dham. Main resolutions passed were that the convention recommend to the Gov't. in power that all members of the Leg- islature be absolutely free to vote in any proposed law that affects the mor- al and social welfare of our people without fear of being read out of the party or without censure of any kind from their leaders, It was further re- commended that a copy of this resolu- tion be sent to the Premier of Ontario, the 'leader of the oppositiOn and the leader of other parties in the Legis- lature. This was so moved by Mr. Medd, ex-M,L.A. of Exeter. Also that this Huron County Temp. Fed. views with alarm the increase in automobile accidents. The Ont. Gov'ts. policy of liquor control is very much uncontrol- led when the record shows that over half of all traffic accident fatalities are due to drinking. Therefore we re- quest the Atty.-General's Dept. to seek amendments to the Criminal Code for stiffer penalties for those found under the influence of liquor but not neces- sarily intoxicated, and in charge of a motor car.
