spent the week-end at her home here. Airs, John Johnston has been very
ill over the week-end and Nurse Olive

Mrs. Wm, Humphrey of St. Helens,
spent the week-end at the home of
her sister, Mrs. Andrew Fox.
Witighain Firemen were railed out
on Friday afternoon to put out a fire •
th apparently started from faulty
wiring in the upstairs of the home of •
Mr, Robert Carrick. Neighbours help-
ed to carry out furnishings and the
fire was confined to the upstairs. Mr.
and Mrs, Fred Clarke of London,
were here on: Saturday to look after
the home.
The East Wawanosh Federation
held their Annual Business Meeting
and. Banquet in the Memorial Hall
U here last Wednesday evening, when
the ladies of the Instiute served a hot
fowl supper for one hundred and
eighty guests, with Rev, W. S. Suther-
land asking grace. Mr, John Buchanan,
president of the Federation was in
charge of the program that followed,
with Reeve J. D. Beecroft giving the
address of welcome, Mr. Harry Sturdy
introduced the speakers at the head
.table, who in turn gave interesting ad-
dresses, John W. Hanna, M.L.A., El-
ston Cardiff, IM,P., Mr. Rennie, assist-
ant Agricultural Representative, from
Clinton, Bert Lob b, President Huron
County Federation. The business
Meeting and election of officers was
in charge of J. D. Beecroft and Mr.
Buchanan was re-instated as Presi-
dent, with Aldin Purdon as Vice-Pres.,
and with a director from each school
section, those from the North End
being Gordon Elliott, Charles Robin-
son, Albert Bieman, Howard Walker
and George Carter. Mr. Simon .Halla-
ban introduced the special speaker,
Mr, B. S. Millburn of Toronto, sec, o,L,
the Provincial Federation. Mr. Mill-
burn spoke on the General responsi-
bilities and activities of the Federation,
on Medical Co-open. services and Co-
operatiye Auto Insurance. Mr. Harry
Sturdy moved a vote of thanks to the
speaker, and to -the ladies of the In-
stitute, Mr. Clarke Johnston led the
Community Singing, and Miss Lois
Whitney of CKNX rendered special
solos, with Miss Elaine Walsh as ac-
companist. The meeting was closed by
singing a verse of 0, Canada and Tif-
fin's Orchestra provided music for the
dance that followed.
Scott - Wightman
A wedding of interest to this com-
munity was solemnized on Saturday,
October 23rd., at twelve noon, at the
home of Rev, and Mrs. J. W. Watt,
when Miss Violet May Wightman,
daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Chas. H, Wightman, became the bride
of Mr. William John Borden Scott, son
of Mrs. John S. Scott of E. Wawanosh
and the late Mr. Scott. with Rev. J.
W. Watt officiating, and with Mr. and
Mrs. Ivan Wightman of E. Wawanosh,
as their attendants. After the wedding
dinner, served to immediate relatives
at the home of the bride's sister, Mrs.
Elsie Brigham, of Morris Township,
the happy couple left on a motor trip
They will make their home on the
groom's farm on the 6th of Wawanosh.
Their many friends in this commun-
ity extend best wishes for a long and
happy wedded life.
Miss \Vinniferd Farrier of Toronto,
spent the week-end with 'her parents,
Mr, and Mrs. W. R. Farrier.
Miss Grace McKinnon of Holyrood,
spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs.
Lorne f ohnston.
Mr. and Mrs. Calvert Falconer and
family of Blyth, spent Sunday at the
home of Mr, and Mrs. Cecil Falconer.
McClenaghan families from here at-
tended the funeral of their cousin,
Mrs. Margaret Bell, wife of Mr. Robt.
Bell at Wingliam on Saturday.
The Women's Institute will hold
their Bazaar at their November meet-
ing on Tuesday, November 9th.
All in this community are invited td

in the Memorial Hall here this Thurs-
day evening, sponsored by the Hall
Committee for the Building Fund, The

Vingham General Hospital on Tues-
ay last, and Mrs. Jean Fox, who has
een keeping-house for him during the

The monthly meeting of the W.M.
S. of the United Church was held on
Friday evening last at the church,
with the President, Mts. Victor Em-
erson, in charge of the meeting. The
different Scripture lessons were read
by Mrs. Newton, Mrs. W. 5. Watt and
Mrs. Lorne Johnston, and the theme
of the program was Thy Kingdom
come, through the healing ministry of
the Church, coining through faith,
words of truth, teaching, healing and
through the work that united hearts
can do. Miss Olive Tariff led in
prayer, Mrs. W. R, Farrier gave a
piano solo and Mrs, Jas. Falconer gave
a splendid report of the recent PreSby-
I, G. Gillespie led in prayer for the
terial meeting at Gordo, Mrs,
mistionaties and their work. Rev. G.
M. Newton showed a very interesting
group of slides oft New CanadianS,
from poverty and oppression and the
efforts of workers here, to make so
many nationalities into new and good
ietizens. Mrs. Emerson closed the
meeting with the Benediction, Help

to serve Thee, now and forever. Lunch
was served and the social time enjoyed
by all.
Miss Faye McClenaghan of London
spent the weekend with her parents,
Mn and Mrs. Ben McClenaghan,
Reeve J. D. Beetroft and Mr. Russy
ell Gaunt made a business trip" to
Hamilton and Toronto on Thursday
of last week.
Acv. W. J. Watt left oil Monday,
with Rev. W.. A. tetcrO, of Wing-
ham, to attend the Alumni Conference
in Kingston for Queen's University

The group from the Whitechurch
Presbyterian Church had charge of
'the opening exercises at the Sectional
meeting of the W.M.S. held at Tees-
water Presbyterian Church on Thurs•
day last. Mrs. Sutherland was in the
chair, and Mrs. Johnston Conn and
Mrs. Walter Lott took the devotional
service. Mrs. Dawson Craig also at-
tended the meeting and Mrs. John
Richardson front Langside.
Miss Fowler from Moncton, N,B.,
and Miss Clayton from Peterborough
have been staying in the village for the
past three weeks and holding Oospel
services in the Memorial Hall every
evening the Hall is available, They
held their service on Sunday evening,
after the service of the Presbyterian
congregation.
The W.M,S. of the Presbyterian
Church held their Pall Thank-offering
meeting on Wednesday last at the
home of Mrs, Walter Lott, with the
President, Mrs. Sutherland in charge
of the meeting, and giving the Call to
Worship, Mrs. Lott read Luke 5, 141
responsively and led in the devotional
period, and Mrs, Robert Mowbray led
in prayer. Mrs. Mowbray invited the
group to hold their November meet-
ing at her home in town, and a nom-
inating committee of Mrs. J. S. Craig,
Mrs, Ezra Wetwood and Mrs, Frank
Coulter was appointed to bring in a
slate of officers for that annual meet-
ing, Mrs. Sutherland led in the offer-
tory prayer, The guest speaker was
Mrs. John Pollock, a former President
of the Society, who by different col-
oured candles, spoke on Light, the
green symbolized life and movement,
faith and trust, the blue, loyalty, the
golden, service, the, red, sacrifice,
while the white stood for the Light
of the World, Christ. The meeting was
Closed by repeating the Lord's Prayer
in unison, ,Lunch was served and the
social thnFenjoyed by all,
t. ,Sam Thompson, son of Mr, and
Mrs. Norman Thompson, of E. Wa-
wanosh, met with a severe accident
to his right hand, when working with
other men. in the bush, at hin Clar-
ence Chainney's on Thursday last. It
is thought the log rolled and his hand,
with his glove, was drawn quickly intc,
the saw. The nail of the thumb wa,E.„
pulled off, and the index finger, part
of the centre linger, was saved, but
the others were so severely jainine6-
and crushed, that doctors in the hos-
pital were unable to save them. Sams
served overseas and his many friends
regret this accident very much.
