Mr. and Mrs. Bert Taylor received
word recently that their son, Ronald
-.Taylor is wheelsman on the pleasure
Yacht, Nelvarta, at present making its
way to Florida, where it will cruise
_around Cuba and other points for the
winter, The Nelvana put in at Halifax
for Thanksgiving.
The W.M.S. meeting was held on
Friday afterd000n with 12 present.
Mrs. Fred Cook was in charge of the
devotional programme. The meeting
opened by singing "It is sweet to trust
in Jesus." The Lord's Prayer was re-
peated by Mrs. Gordon Snell. Prayer
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Douglas motor-
ed to Tilsonbnrg and called on the
Rev. Udell at Courtland.
The funeral of Mr, Walter Renwick
was held from the family home on
'Sunday, at 2.30 p.m.

Mr. William Rietoul went through
an operation for appendicitis in Wing-
ham General Hospital on Wednesday
last.
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Elliott enter-
tained their relatives, friends and nei-
ghbors in the Memorial Hall here last
Monday evening, in honour of the
recent marriage of their son and i is
wife, Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell Elliott.
Dining the evening the semne eimphz
were called to the front, NH% Leieveen
Craig read an address and Mr. arahie
Purdon presented them with a purse
of money. Both thanked their friends
for the gift, Farrier's orchestra pro-
vided music for dancing, Lunch \yes
served and all enjoyed the social time
together.

byterian Church, at 2 pm., with Rev.

wedding dinner, served to thirty of
the immediate relatives, at the home of
his sister, Mrs. Ed, Taylor of Inners
kip.
Mrs. Robert Purdon and Archie and
Mr. and Mrs. Afdin Purdon. spent
Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Floyd Bott of Belwood, and Mr. Robt.
Pardon returned home with them,
after visiting there for the past week.
Word was received here on Sunday
of the sudden passing of Mr. Edward
Browning, on Saturday night, at his
home in Toronto. Mr. Browning had
been married twice, with his first wife
predeceasing him over thirty years
ago. About twenty-seven years ago
he married Mrs. Emma Spading. of
Whitechurch, who now survives, with,
his son, Mr. George Browning of Ter-
onto, and two daughters, Mrs. Kath-
leen Robinson of Kincardine, and
Lillian Browning at home. The funeral
was held from Currie's Funeral Home
on Tuesday afternoon, with Rev, W.
A. Beecroft incharge of the service.
The pallbearers Were Frank Field,
Milian Moore, I. B. Whittaker, Harold
Spading, Duncan Kennedy, and J. D.
Beecroft. Interment took place in the
Wingham Cemetery. The many friends
of Mrs. Browning and her family, in
this community extend sympathy to
the bereaved family.
The Presbyterian Congregation
held Communion Service at Calvin
Church on Sunday, with their pastor,
Rev. W. S. Sutherland in charge of
the service,
There was no service in the United
Church here on Sunday on account of
the Anniversary service in St. Helens
United Church, and quite a number of
the United Church'people attended time
services there.

sons of Wingham, visited on Sunday
with Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Welwood.
Mr. and Mrs. Cameron Simmons
and Nancy Ann, spent the week-end

'1 lie -regular -monthly meeting of the
Women's Institute was held on Tues-
day last, whit the President, Mrs. Ben
McClenaghan in charge of the meet-
ing. After the opening exercises, the
roll call was answered humorously by
naming a farm problem. The Insti-
tute decided to donate $10 to the
Lucknow Recreational Centre. The
following program was presented:

Ezra Scholtz; Mrs, McClenaghan ga\'e
a reading, "Ten Ways of Killing an
Association, Mrs, W. R. Farrier read
a splendid paper, prepared by Mrs.
Nelson Pickett, on Agriculture and
Canadian Industries. Mrs. Grain gave
a reading, "The. Game, as a Goal".
The ladies decided to hold their an-
nual bazammee at the November meetine
and had a discussion on Hospitaliza-
tion. The meeting closed with the
National Anthem.

Anniversary services in the United
Churca, Sabbath were well attended.
4 The new home of Mrs, Fred Johann
was the scene of a large gathering On
Wednesday afternoon. Almost 80
members of the \N omen's Institute,
past and present gathered and listen-
ed to the following programme. In
the absence of the President, Mrs.
Roy Rutherford very capably filled
her place and called the meeting to
order. Mrs. Norman Newaus was at
the piano for the opening of the meet-
ing with the Ode and prayer. •
Roll Call, "Your picture when a
baby," but as the family was large
and money scarce, pictures were for-
gotten. An ancient piece of jewellery
brought a gond response. A reading by
Mrs. Elmer Jeffrey, "Do you recall
those days."
After the singing of "Auld Lang
Syne" Mrs. John Gowdy of Wroxeter,
gave an interesting and humorous ad-
dress on "Pioneer Days." As e-the
lunch hour is always a pleasant affair,
especially among the women, a lovely
lunch was prepared by Mrs. Fitch as-
sisted by the hostess, and others.
We were sorry to hear of the sud-
den passing of Mr. Wm. Hall of Galt.
William attended .Public School and
was a special favorite with old and
young.
The Missionary meeting of time Un-
ited Church was held on Friday last.
at Mrs. Roy Rutherford's with a good
attendance.
Films were shown in the Commun-
ity Hall on Thursday evening.
A good crowd attended the sale of
Mr. Arnold Halliday, especially wom-
en to have a social chat.

High. School Champions—The jun-
ior -championship was carried off by
Frank Howson, who made an exceed-
ingly creditable record, winning 5
firsts, The senior champiottship went
to R. Stackhouse with 20 points. The
girls' games wete particularly inter-
esting to many of the spectators, es-
pecially the football game, which was
tremendoesly exciting.
