MEETING AT GORRIE
(Continued iront page one)
Two members of Gurrie Mission
Band sang a duet during the dinner
hour .and words of welcome were giv-
en by Mrs, Taylor and responded to
by the \\Ingham Auxiliary.
The afternoon session opened with
worship, led by members of the Wing-
ham Evening Auxiliary.
Mrs, 1. A. Burden, Binevale, gave
a review of the Study Book, "\Vest of
the Gorges" by Dr. Kenneth Beaton,
and this was followed by a skit,
"School for, Leaders" by the ladies of
Briek Church, showing the advant-
ages of attending this school at Alma
College,
Solos were rendered by Miss Mein-
win, Fordwich, and Mrs. deDoelder,
Ethel, and were much enjoyed.
'Mrs. H. D, Taylor, Executive Sec-
retary, WT.M,S, Overseas Missions,
was the guest speaker, and, has dur-
ing the last two years, visited the
Missions in India, China, Korea, Ja-
pan, Africa and Trinidad. She told of
our responsibility as Christian women
to the great mass of humanity suffer-
ing hunger, cold and disease.
She arrived in India about one year
ago, just after India took over the
reins of government from Britain, and
saw some of the millions who had fled
from one section of the country to an-
other, according to their religion.
Nearly one-half of one city had no
place to sleep, except on the street;
50% of India's population never have
enough to eat, nor their forbears ;be-
fore them but the situation was very
much aggravated. Three hundred
pounds of medicine and relief was sent
out from New Yolk on the same
'plane on which Mrs. Taylor travelled.
The Canadian Government has also
sent several shiploads of wheat to help.
The Missionary Church is also an ed-
ucational and health centre, India is
asking, begging assistance. Can we
refuse.'
Mrs. Taylor told of conditions in
China, how, because of war which has
been raging for years, and inflation,
the people are suffering from lack of
food, proper clothing, and an acute
housing shortage, But there are
groups of faithful Chinese still tryisg
to live the Christian life and wished
thanks be sent to the churches for

Japan is prostrate. Whole cities
have been destroyed. Japan could not
grow enough rice to feed her people
but imported from Formosa and China
but since the war she cannot afford to

sent by the Chnrches. Many church
buildings were destroyed and the
Christian leaders paid for their faith
with imprisonment or with their lives,
