John James Gibson, 75, former vice-
president, and managing director of
the chartered Trust and Executor Co.,
died at his home in Toronto alter a

The Howick Lions Club got their
1948-49 season off to a good start last
Thursday evening in VtTroxetcr Red
Cross Rooms with a Chicken Banquet
served by St. James Anglican Guild
Ladies. Neil McDonald was the enter-
tainer and really surpassed himself,
his friend, Rev. Donald Nicholson, also
of Kincardine contributed some really
humorous reminiscences and his poem
on "A Big Fish" was especially well
rendered.Tail Twister Lion Ken con-
ducted a Ten Game Bingo and Lion
Tamer Rev. Jim, was also busy. Past
Deputy Governor Gordon Hargraves
introduced our new District Deputy
Governor Bert Gray of Blyth, who
was received by the Club with the
Lions Roar. Five new members, Lyle
Brothers, Rev, U. E. Cronhielm, Bill
Dobson, Bob Cunningham of Wrox-
eter, and Harvey McDermott of Ford-
wich, were initiated by Past D.D.G,

Harvest Thanksgiving Service
St, James' Anglican Church, att-ac-
ively decorated with grebe fruit, -veg-
etables and late summer Bowers, was
a suitable setting for the annual Har-
vest Thanksgiving Service -on Sunday,
at 4 o'clock. The Rector, Rev. J. C.
Caley spoke on the parable of the
Feeding of the Four Thousand. Assist-
ing in the service was Mr. Warren,:
London, Lay Reader. Music was pro-
Vided by Trinity Church, Fordwich
choir, with Miss Elva Poster, at the
organ. The words of the Anthem, "Ye'
Shall Dwell in the Land" with Rev.,
I. C. Caley. Mr. John Gamble and
Mrs. Clifford Holt, taking the solo
parts.

The September meeting of the W.
M.S. of the United Church was 'held
in the 'church school room on Friday
afternoon. Mrs, Allen Munro was in
charge, assisted by Mrs. ID. AV. Itae.
The meeting opened with Invocation,
Let us bow down in prayer, that the
World Shall be reborn, What A Friend
we have in Jesus, was the opening
hymn. The scripture reading from
St. John's GOsPei, 1st. Corinthians and Tile Roll Call was answered by
Romans and Commentary was given
by Mrs. Munro. Mrs. Rae led in pray-
er. Mrs. Crontielm was in charge 'of
the topic, China, an introduction to the
new Study Book which was because
of the speakers personal experiences as
a Missionary nurse in That Country
