YOUR HYDRO CHAIRMAN REPORTS
on the Power Shortage
Dear Fellow Citizens: The demand for electricity from all classes of the community
- homes, farms and industries - all over Ontario, is still mounting.
Homes are being built, the demand for increased production from farms
is steadily increasing and industry is pressing forward with plans for
expansion, plans that
mean
greater production and more pbs to keep
Ontario prosperous. . It is anticipated that the inc%;ease la demand over the
available
supply will anions
to in excess of
four roil- kilowatt
hours per day, and conservation moasures have been put into effect
as of Tuesday, September 14th. These will include reductions
in :the
supply
for
show windows, office lighting and certain industries,
banning outdoor electrical signs and in other
ways. Even with all
these reductions we mill still tie short 1,200,000 kilowatt hours per
day but to insist on more would have a hampering effect on industry
and seriously reduce employmont.
•
Whore then can we
get the vitally needed power? From you
and every individual Vydro user in Ontario. How much
should you save?
Take a 60watt
electric lamp sand
an example. For every 24'hours it
turns) it requires almost one
a half kilowatt hours of current.
If every one of the 900,000 tlydro users in Ontario will save the
equivalent of that much electricity
wi,,, d.a. there will be no need
for cut . of fs . ,
Veryone
must do his or her part. It should orb
a 24 hour
effort. Turn off every light,
switch off
every motor or applitalce the
moment
it is tot needed. Particularly, watch the switches
on your
electric range. Tho situation, is critical. Full employmont rust be min-
tained and the support of
every householder, every commercial -user and
every industrial consumer
is essential in avoiding the waste of
oieotrioity.
