Mrs, Glenn Allan McKereher with
two end tables, a smoking cabinet,
ironing board and a purse of money,
The address was read - by Wm.
King jr,, of Jamestown, and the gifts
presented by Win, Adams, Brussels,
Lawrence Plant, Jamestown and Fred
Montgomery of Wroyter,
Mr, McKercher made a very suitable
reply and thanked everyone who so
kindly remembered his bride and him-
self, After the presentation and lunch,
the remainder of the evening was spent,
by dancing to the music of Brown's
Orchestra.
ST. HELENS
Mrs. M. G: Newton was hostess for
the 18 ladies who attended the Sept.
meeting of the W.M.S, and W,A. on
Thursday afternoon. Mrs, W, I, Miller
presided for the meeting of ,the W.M.
S. the theme of which was, The Faith
whereby the church must live. Scrip-
ture lesson were read by Mrs, S, A.
Todd and Mrs.. J, Cameron, It was
agreed that we invite Mrs, Kirkby of
Walton, the president of the Huron
Presbyterial to address our Autumn
Thankoffering some Sunday hi Nov-
ember. Mrs. G. McPherson, herald for
India read of - a nine week's school in
Angola, Mrs: S. A. Todd of school
in South China, Mrs. J. Cameron of a
training school in B,C. and Mrs. L,
Woods of Hospitality' in Trinidad.
Mrs. W. I. Miller had charge of the
new Study Book, west of the Gorges,
and read the story of Margaret Li.
Mrs. A.• Grant presided -for the
meeting of the W.A., the theme for
which was "The Apostle Paul,* his
Heavenly Vision, Mrs. E. W. Rice
read the, Scripture lesson and Mrs. S.
A. Todd the lesson thoughts, Mrs.
G. 'McPherson gave a reading "What
Christ said". Mrs. Rice favoured with
a solo and Mrs. Cameron read the
story of the hymn, "Rock of Ages,"
Mrs. S. A. Todd invited the ladies to
meet at her home in October.
Mr. and Mrs. Neely Todd, David
and Patsy of Stratford, were week-
end visitors with Mr. and Mrs. D.
Todd.

Visitors at the McGuire home last
week were: Mr. and Mrs. Roy Mc-
Guire, Port Arthur; Mr, and M. John
Zimmerman, and son, Palgrave; Mrs.
Cecil ;.Mines, Niagara Falls, Mr, and
Mrs. Nelson McGuire, Holstein; Mrs.
A. R. Tasker, and Lloyd, of Blyth.
Mr. and Mrs. Bert Tasker of Blyth,
entertained members of the McGuire
family at their cottage, Point Clark on
Sunday, September 12th, 1948. Those
present included Mrs, Mary McGuire,
Mr, and Mrs. Nelson McGuire' and
family, Holstein; Mr, and Mrs. Mer-
vin Richmond and family, Blyth; Mr,
and Mrs. Cecil Mines and family of
Niagara Falls, N.Y,, Mr. and Mrs, Roy
McGuire, Port Arthur; Mr. and 'Mrs.
Lorne Moore and family, Palmerston;
Mr., and Mrs. Sam Pletch and family,
Mr, and Mrs. H. L. McGuire and fam-

United Church News
A splendid attendance was present
at the service pn Sunday morning, We
hope now that the harvest has been
gathered in, and that the strenuous
work on the farm can be relaxed a
little, that more and more people will
find time to attend Divine Service on
Sunday.
NOTE—Change in hour of service,
Sunday, September 26th, the services
will revert to the usual schedule which
is held to, throughout the balance of
the year. The hours will be as fol-
lows: Belgrave, Sunday School 10 a,
m,, service, 11a.m.; Brick Church
Sunday School 1.30 p.m., Preaching
SerVice, 2.30 p.m. On that Sunday
Standard Time will be regarded. Fut-
ure dates to keep in mind—Sunday,
October 3rd., World Wide Commun-
ion Sunday; Sunday, October 10th,

wedding cake. Flowers tastefully de-
orated the rooms.
Miss Cook, assisted by Mrs. Albert
Cook displayed the trousseau and
gifts. Misses Mildred, Nora and ,Mur-

ved refreshments to the many guests,
Mrs. Stapleton has been taken to
the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jamie-
son, after being in the Wingham Gen-
eral Hospital.
Mrs. John VanCamp suffered a weak
spell last week.
Among, those attending the Western
Fair in London were, Mrs, G. Jordan,
Mrs. G. Walsh, Mr. and Mrs. Wm.
Kelly, Mr. and ;Mrs. Jos. Dunbar, Al-
lan Dunbar and Bill Taylor, Mr. and
Mrs. C. H. Wade.
Mrs, J. McKee of Montreal, visited
her sister, Mrs. Harold Procter and
Mr. Procter.
Miss Mary Procter has entered the
Stratford General Hospital as nurse-
in-training, We wish her every suc-
cess in her chosen profession.
Mr. George Jordan attended the
Fishing Derby in ,Meaford.
Miss Marguerite Young, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Alex Young of Lucan,
formerly of Belgrave, and a pupil, of
Lucan High School has been awarded
a Dominion-provincial scholarship of
$250.00 towards Normal School train-
ing. In 1945 her sister, Elizabeth won
the same award. Marguerite plans to
enter London'-Normal Scrool this fall.
Belgrave friends send congratulations.
Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Johnston of
Windsor, spent a few days last week
with Mr. and Mrs, L. Vannan.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Procter and
Mr. and Mrs. L. Vannan were in Lon-
don on Monday when Mr. Procter and
Mr. Vannan attended the funeral of
the late Archbishop Seager.
Sympathy of the community is ex-
tended to Mrs. Clarence Chamney in
the loss of her mother, Mrs. John
Johnston, whose death occurred at her
home in Goderich on Sunday.
Mr. Mansz of the Belgrave Public
School spent the week-end at his home
in Stratford and competed in the boat
races on the Avon River.
Mr. Jack Taylor won a beautiful
lamp on a lucky draw held at Goder-
icliA.Ir. and Mrs. Wm. Aitkens and
family of Toronto, spent two weeks
with their brother, Mr. Thomas
Thompson.
Mr. Clifford Kelly has accepted a
position with National Grocers in
London.
Me% and Mrs. Calvin Robinson,
Mess-s. Harris and Bill Purdon and
Mr. James Purdon attended the C.N.E.
in Toronto.
Mr. and Mrs. Bud Styles and Mr.
Reid of Toronto, visited with Mr. and
Mrs. john
Mr. Jonh McGill has returned to
his home after spending ten days in
the Wingham General Hospital.
Institute Meeting
The regular meeting of the Institute
y will he held in the Club rooms on
Tuesday, Sept. 21. Mrs:Albert Coul-
tes will present a quiz. The roll call
is an exchange of flowers. Mrs.
Mootes will give a flower arrange-
inent demonstration, and Mrs. Wm,
Brydges will be the guest speaker.
Refreslunent committee is Mrs. Iiar-
Old Vincent, Mrs, R. Procter and Mrs.
R. Crawford, All the ladies of the
community are invited to attend.
I Miss Fairy Fells is a patient in the
Wingham General Hospital suffering
from pneumonia.
Mr. Allan has been in the Wingham
General Hospital with pneumonia,
Mr. Clifford Purdon spent three
days in the Hospital receiving treat-
ment for an infection in his face,
. The Happy Heart Mission wand
Was held on Sunday, September 12th,
in the basement of the church. There
were twenty-five in attendance, The
meeting started, with the Call to Wor,
shipu and the Mission Band Purpose,
A hymn was then sung. The Scripture
Which was the twenty-third psalm
was read iii unison followed by a pray-
er. All the little children sang Jesus
Loves Me. The collection 'was taken
up by the treasurer, George Procter,
The Mission Band intends to hold a
special evening meeting the .26th of
September. Everybody is invited to
