Mr, Hugh Switzer has sold his
apartment house, the former Anglo
American Hotel to Mr. Cain Edgar,
Mr. Switzer and family are moving to
Cedarville this week,
Mrs. A, Hamilton is spending two
weeks in Toronto.
Mrs, A. Thornton is visiting friends
at Canfield.
Rev. J. C. and Mrs,- Caley spent a
couple of days last week at Wiarton
Mrs. Archie MacDonald and dau-
ghters, Mary and Catharine, were
honored with gifts by friends at Mel-
esworth at a community picnic recent-
ly. Miss MacDonald has 'been engaged
as teacher of the Junior room here,
They formerly resided at Moles-
worth.
Bagnall of Toronto, is spending
some time here.
Mr. and Mrs, P. S, Patrick of St.
Thomas, spent the week-end with Mr.
and Mrs. August Keil, Sunday guests

Mr. Albert Longley
The death occurred on Sunday in
the Wingham General Hospital, of
Mr. Albert. Longley, lot. 10, Con. B.,
in his 78th year, who is well 'known
here. Funeral service was held from
his home on Tuesday afternoon with
interment in Wroxeter cemetery.
Mr. and Mrs. ,Jas. Newton and
Miss Elaine Dahn of Clifford, were
visitors on Saturday at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Percy Ashton.
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest King Jr„ De-
troit, Mr. and Mrs. Percy Colmer and
Gary and Miss Isobel King, Toronto,
were guests at the King-Adams wed-
ding on Saturday and visited relatives
over the week-end.
Mr, and Mrs. Bower Farrish and
Kenneth, Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Parrish
spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs.
Robbs near Lucknow Mr. E. J, Far-
rish who has been spending a few 'lar excavated for the new home which
i he plans to erect on the lot west of
'Mr. Norman Clegg's home.
Schools will reopen on Tuesday,
Sept. 7th, at No. 1, Donald Gilmar,
Carrick, has been re-engaged also Mrs.
Ira McLean of Wroxeter, at No. 4.

in the Jr. room. Mrs. H. Mulligan has

No. 5, Orangehill Mrs. J. A, Ireland,

with the latter's brother, Mr. Norman

! Fordwich Women's Institute and
'the community are to be congratulated
on the success of their Harvest Festi-
val, on Thursday evening. Both sup-
per and evening's entertainment were
thoroughly enjoyed by those present.
The "Howick Hornets" with their
square dances were especially popular.
Proceeds were for the new community
Hall.
.Wm. H. Townsend
William Henry Townsend, who met
his death on Sunday, August 22nd.,
when the plane which he was piloting
crashed and burned near Shelburne,
was the elder son of Geo. Townsend
and the late Alice Thornton. He vas
born on the 4th con, of Howick on
July 25th, 1912. His mother died when
lie was five years of age.
Even before the war BO was inter-
ested in aviation. He was a pilot in
the R.C.A.F., enlisting in September
11939, and serving for nearly two years
being discharged for physical reasons,
His hobby for many years was para-
chute jumping,
On Sept, _27th, 1947, he married
Mary Denise Hutchison, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Hutchison, Har-
riston, a former member of the Wo-
men's Division, R.C.A.F., who sur-
vives, also his father, step mother,
brothers, Alvin and Harold of Strat-
ford, Norman of Listowel, and a sis-
ter, Grace at home.
Bill was well known here and a
favorite with young and old. For the
last few years he had conducted a
muarcnIel. ine and welding shop at Shel-b
The funeral on Tuesday afternoon
from the Townsend home was under
Masonic auspices, he having been a
member of Fordwich A.F. & A,M., No.
331, and later at Shelburne. Service
at the home and graveside were con-
ducted by Rev. Harold Fickle, rector
of St. George's Anglican Church, Har-
riston, assisted by Rev. Gm \Vylie
of Otterville, Pall bearers were: Alvin
Harold and Norman Townsend, Reid
;Hutehison, Harriston, Mr, Gamble, i - Shelborne, and Wilson Thornton,
-Illuevale. Interment was in Gorrie
Cemetery.
