MARY HASTINGS GROUP OUTING Held At Wingham Town Park Last Wednesday theAbdrove ge tloief ahiuluat uoeftiollirelel ry svtoi ri rc iensa rose people to higher bids. No, it was not a tobacco auction, it was the enterprising. ladies of the Wingham-Teeswater dis- trict rolding their annual Mary Hest, ings picnic last Wednesday at Wing- ham Town Park. Feature of the outing was the auct- ion at which Mrs. Harry Angus of Wingham, sold to the highest bidder items ranging from doilies to flower- ing plants. Bidding was slow at the start, but as Mrs. Angus warmed to her job the other ladies got into the spirit of the thing and soon the articles were sell- ing like the proverbial hot cakes. The more than 100 members who attended-the picnic made it the largest and one of the most successful Mary Hastings picnics ever held in the dis- trict. Threatening clouds hung over the picnic grounds from the start but even the rain which fell later in the afternoon, failed to dampen the spirits of the members. It did, however, prevent the ladies from showing off their athletic prow- ess for the shelter which they found when the rain began, while large enough to allow space in which to eat, was hardly enough to run off the race es. Fortunately though, the el.ildren had their fun, frit- races and noVelty stunts were run at the beeienin e of , A large number of applications are stillto be cared for.
