Women's Institute
Mrs. Carl Johnston opened her
home this month for the meeting of
BLUEVALE the Women's Institute. The attend-
ance was large and when the roll was
called there were many suggestions
for making over a house, cupboards
and kitchen conveniences were in the
majority.
A sale of articles donated by the
members, along with two cash dona-
tions amounted to over $17.00 for the
cemetery fund, The sum of $15.00 Svcs
voted to the community hall fund.
Mrs. J. H, Smith gave a comprehen-
sive report of the District annual meet-
ing held recently at Brussels. The
cemetery committee reported that the
council also the treasurer of the ceme-
tery board had been contacted and .it
is hoped that work on the improve-
merit of the cemetery will soon be
started. A paper on Current Events
by Mrs. Alex Corrigan outlined a
number of interesting items.. An Irish
solo by Mrs. J. Wickstead was en ioy-
ed. At the close of the meeting lunch
was served by the hostess assisted by
Mrs. James Johnston and Mrs. J.
Wickstead and all enjoyed a r ocial
half hour.
At the morning service at the United
Church, Rev. J. A. Burden spoke on
the text, Genesis 11-4. "They said "Go
to, let us 'build us a city and a tower,
whose top may reach unto Heaven."
Mrs. 5, Wickstead sang a solo.
"God's Sufficient Grace" was the
subject of Rev. Leland C. Jorgensen's
sermon at Knox Presbyterian Church
on Sunday morning, based on the text,
"My Grace is sufficient for thee, for
my strength is made perfect in weak-
ness."
The caste from the Women's Assoc-
iation of the United Church presented
the play "Sewing for the Heathen" to
a full house at Belmore on Friday ev-
ening under the auspices of the Wo-
men's Institute.
Mr. and Mrs. R. H. McKinnon, Mr.
and Mrs. John K. MacTavish, Mr. and
Mrs. A. D. Smith were guests at the
McKinnon - Milliere wedding in the
United Church, Georgetown, on Satur-
day. The groom, Mr. Spence McKin-
non, is the only son of Mr. and Mrs.
Robert H. McKinnon, and is a mem-
ber of the staff of the Canadian Bank
of Commerce at Georgetown.

The Lord's Supper was observed in
McIntosh Church Sabbath morning,
next Sabbath Anniversary at Mildmay.
A number from here attended flow-
er in Wingham United Church
on Sunday. The theme was "God's
Gift," which was beautifully illustrat-
ed, not only in the service of song, but
in the flower arrangements.
The concert in the Community Hall
on Friday evening was not so well
'patronized as we wished for, the rims-
'cal programme was greatly enjoyed.
Miss Emma Johnston, local leader
accompanied by her class, Jean and
Mary Campbell, Wilda and Roma
Breckenridge, attended the achieve-
ment Day programme at the Anglican
Boys Camp in Bayfield. on Saturday.
Wilda and Roma exhibited dresses in
the clothing projects, "Cottons may
be Smart" and "Summer clothes for
Girls" in the judging contest and both
were awarded 2nd. prize.
The residents of this community
were saddened when it was learned
that Anson Thornton had passed away
in Victoria Hospital, London, where
he had been a patient for one week,
Mr. Thornton was born in Morris
Township, 65 years ago and spent the
greater part of his life near Bluevale,
and moved to 'Gorrie a number of
years ago. He had not enjoyed good
health for some time. He is survived
by his wife, the former Lottie Cathers
of Gorrie, ,and three sons and three
daughters. Mr. George Thornton of
Bluevale, is a brother.

Mr. and Mrs. I, W. Wickstead, spent
Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. j. Mar-
shall at Listovvel.
Dr. and Mrs. Arthur Shaw mid
daughter, Barbara, of Toronto, visited
with the Dr's, mother, Mrs. Arthur
Shaw. '
Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Geddes and
Mrs. Robert Nicholson, Delgrave, also
Mr. Robert Shaw visited with Airs.

spent the week-end at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Smith.
Mrs. Nelson Cardiff, Brussels, spent
a few days with her sister, Mrs. Peter
S. McEwen.
Miss Margaret Curtis is visiting her
sister, Mrs, Harold Procter near Bel-
grave.

The Missionary meeting of the Un-
ited Church was held on Wednesday
afternoon, at Mrs, James Harper's,
Carrick, Macintosh, Delmore, Clifford,
and Mildmay being well represented.
The meeting was opened by singing
"Christ for the 'World, we Sing" fol-
lowed by prayer in unison. Scripture
Reading, Mrs, Ferguson; Minutes by Church, one and all gathered to spend.
