Mrs. Ferguson is a sister of Dr. Whitley. Mr. and Mrs. Graham Hastie of Harriston visited with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Edgar on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Brown 'visited the former's sister, Mrs. Jas. Cullen Who is a patient in the Kitchener Hos- pital, on Sunday. Anson Thornton The sympathy of the community goes out to the Thornton family in the death of a husband and father Mr. Anson Thornton passed away in Victoria Hospital at London at 3 p.m, on Sunday afternoon following a par- alytic stroke which he suffered about 11 a.m. Mr. Thornton had been re- ceiving treatments at Victoria Hos- pital during the week, but death was unexpected. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in the United Church. Gorrie W. I. The June meeting of the Gorrie W. I. was held at the home of Mrs. Percy Ashton .on Tuesday, June 8th. Mrs. Mel. Taylor acted for the President. A financial report was given and the proceeds from the play held recently will be sent to Personal Parcels Ser- vice, London, Ont. A committee was named to .arrange for helpers at the: Chest X-ray Clinic in Gorrie on June 23rd. The Wroxeter and Fordwich ladies Will be responsible for the foll- owing day, June 24th. Mrs. P. Ash- ton and Mrs. C, Gregg were appoint- ed as delegates to attend the Achieve- ment day at hayfield. Mrs. C. Wil- son was appointed in charge of Curr- ent Events for the year. A splendid report of the District Annual held at Brussels was given by Mrs. Glad Ed- gar. Current Events were given by Mrs. T. lIradnock. The Roll Call, "My Most Embarrasing Moment", brought a few good laughs. Com- munity singing was enjoyed and the motto: "A little nonsense now and then is relished, by the best of men" was given by Mrs. W. C. King. A paper on publicity was given by Mrs. E, E. Wellington. A dainty lunch .was. -served by the botstess and her assist- ants, Mrs, Hartwell Strong and Mrs. C. Wilson, 'bringing to a close a very enjoyable meeting. S. S. Anniversary Services The United Chtirelt -Sunday School will hold their Anniversary Services nest Sunday, Julie 20 at 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. The guest speaker will be Mr. David Savage of Listowel. In the morning the Xelterborn Quartette of Milverton, will render special music and at the evening service Mrs. Su walla of Listowel will be soloist. A Special offering will be taken for the work of the Sunday School. All mem- bers are urged to be present. Sunday School will meet nest Sunday at 10;45 A.IM The W. A. of the United Church will meet ht the S. S. room on Theirs- day, Pine 17th, at 2.20 p.m. All the ladies -of the congregation arc invited. Inext, re-union the first Saturday in June, m the Water Tower Park, Listowel. A number from here attended the Jacques Reunion held in Listowel on Saturday, Family Honoured Before Leaving Farm On Wednesday evening friends and neighbours gathered at the farm home of Mr. and Mrs, Harvey Spar- ling, After an 'enjoyable evening had been spent Mr. Jack Toner and Mr, Bill Thornton presented Mr, and Mrs, Sparling with a lovely mirror and Miss Jean Sparling with a table lamp as a. slight token of the esteem in which they were held as neighbors. Miss Ray Cathers read the address. The Sparling family moved to their new home in Gorrie on Saturday. Huron County Achievement Day The Anglican Church Camp 'near Hayfield was chosen for the Huron County Achievement Day Program on Saturday. The following girls of the Junior Home making Clubs sponsored by the Gorrie Women's Institute were in attendance, Misses Erland Gregg, Grace Edgar, Gwen Ruttan and Mary Thornton. Miss Gwen Ruttan having completed six projects received county honors and each club member was pre- sented with a silver teaspoon, Miss Erland Gregg was chosen to repre- sent Huron County at the National 4-H Club Congress at Chicago in November. The following Institute members were in attendance: Mrs. Allen Hyndman, Mrs. P. Ashton, Mrs. C. Gregg, IvIrs.Clarence Sparling and Miss Esther Adams was a guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. C.
