Each member was expected to sing,
Play or pay, some ha something to say
but is was surprising the number that
would rather pay, causing a lot of
merriment. The officers and standing
committees will meet to draft out the
next year's program. The roll call was
a suggestion for next year's program.
A dainty lunch was served by the hos-
tess assisted by Mrs. Wade and Mrs.
Glenn Johnston bringing to a close a
very enjoyable meetings

Wainfleet, were here last Tuesday for
Mr. Dave Cathers auction sale. Mrs.
Thos. McMichael also spent a few
days at the Cather's home.
Mrs, Wilmot Charles is a patient in
Victoria Hospital, Leedom
Mr. and Mrs. Bert Collins, Toronto,
were guests of Mr.- and Mrs. H. V,
Holmes on Sunday.
Mrs. Frances Earngey and Miss
Muriel Lambert have returned to their
home in Guelph,
Mr. and Mrs. Wes. Jermyn, Brus-
sels, Mrs. S. Froggett and Mr. Sam
Marshall, Mr. Stafford Paisley from
Glenannan, spent Sunday with Mr,
and Mrs. W. H. Marshall.
Mr. and Mrs. Don Ireland and fam-
ily of Teeswater, were guests of Mr.
and Mrs. H. Ferguson on Sunday.

Mr. H. V. Holmes returned home on
Thursday from Wingham General
Hospital. His condition is much im-
proved.
Mr. Carter McKee of Galt, Miss
Marion-and Robert of Woodstock,
spent Sunday with Mrs. John Wylie,
and also visited Mr. Geo. McKee at
the Wingham General Hospital.

The April meeting of the Gorrie W.
I. was held on Wed. April 14th, at the
home of Mrs. C. Gregg. There was a
good attendance despite the dismal

has been sold to Mrs. Hamilton and
Miss Burns of Carrick Township.
Miss Eleanore Carson of Toronto
was a week-end visitor at her home.
Mr. and Mrs. Everett Sparling and
Mr. John Sparling, Listowel, spent
Friday with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Fer-
guson and Mr. Sam Ferguson.
Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Shera visited with
Mr. and Mrs, Percy Copeland on Sun-
day.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Jacklin and fam-
ily of Brussels, spent Sunday at the
borne of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Jacklin.
Mr. and Mrs, Clifford Gook, Mrs.
John Musgrove, Wm. and Robt. Nay
of Kitchener, returned home on Satur-
day from a motor trip to Boston,
Mass.
Mr. Lloyd Hockridge of London,
was a week-end visitor with Mr. and
Mrs. T. Bradnock,
Mr, and Mrs, Lindsay Galbraith of
Fordwich, visited on Wednesday with
Mr. and Mrs. Wm, Corbett.

Young People's Union
The Y,P.U. met on Sunday evening
in the Sunday School room with David
Neilson presiding. The meeting open-
ed with quiet music by Marie O'Kraf-
ka and call to worship by the Presi-
dent, followed by singing hymn "J
Am Thin; 0 Lord". Business period
followed: The next meeting will be
held on Friday night, Dorothy Wat-
son, Christian Fellowship Convenes
was in charge of program, assisted by
• Marion Downey. The theme was
"Our Sacrament". Scripture reading,
Mark 10:13-16, 1 Cor. 11:23-28. Pray-
er was offered by Rev, Howse. Topic
was taken by Dorothy Watson. Rev.
G. G. Howse spoke on the theme of
the evening and inhis talk asked the
question, "What do we receive as we
partake of the Sacrament?" The
meeting concluded with the hymn,
"Blest Be The Tie That Binds" and
the benediction pronounced by Rev. G,
G. Howse.

Peter J. Cantelon
Funeral service for Peter J. Came-
lot), 91, who died suddenly on Thurs-
day at his home, Lighthouse Street,
Goderich, was held at the Cranston
Funeral Home at three p.m. on Satur-
day, conducted by Rev. G. W. Medley
of the Baptist Church, and Rev. C. W.
Cope of North Street United Church,
Born of pioneer Huron stock, Mr.
Cantelon enjoyed a long and colorful
career, a son of Peter and Elizabeth
Richardson Cantelon, and was born
in Turnberry Township and received
his education in the school at Blue-
vale. At the age of 16, his father ap-
prenticed him to a wagon-making firm
at Fordwicb. He went to Alpena,
Mich., in 1830. Here lie worked in the
lumber camps for $26 a month with
board.
In 1882 he went to the Turtle
Mountain country where he took up a
section of land and later married Eliza-
beth Musgrove of Turnberry Town-
ship. Of this marriage there were
nine children. He spent 28 years in
Manitoba, later moved to Vancouver
and returned to his old home near
Wingham where he married Miss Ber-
etta McLean, and for the past 27 years
had resided in Goderich. Walt. Dis-
ney's father is a cousin, and Mr. Can-
telon had been a guest of the Disneys
ill California.
Surviving besides his children in the
West, are his wife and daughter, Mrs.
W. H. Robb, Stratford.

Lord's Prayer. Mrs. Percy Ashton, the
president, was in the chair. The min-
utes were read also a "t'reasurer's re-
port given, This being the Annual
meeting an annual report was also
read. A number of thank you cards
were read from those who had receiv-
ed cheer boxes.
Mrs, Robert Ashton has returned to
her home after spending the last three
months with her son in Hamilton.
Mr. and Mrs. Ward Schaefer, Ford-
wich, visited Mrs 'Etta Day on Sunday,
Mr. and Mrs. Percy Ashton spent
Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Jas. New-
ton of Clifford,
Mr. and Mrs. Jas, Graham, Betty
and Alex, of Toronto, spent the week-
end with relatives here,
Miss Margaret Holmes and Miss
Irene Holmes of Toronto visited the
latter's brother, Mr. H. V. Holmes and
Mrs. Holmes on Sunday,

Mrs, George S. (Sim) Cleghorn
passed away inWingham General Hos-
pital on Sunday, April 18th in her 74th
year. She had been ill for about a year,
The former Bertha Holloway was
born in Crosshill and, moved to this
district over forty years ago. Her hus-
band passed away four years ago.
Surviving are two sons, John and
Donald Of town, one brother, Ed. Hol-
loway of Lower Wingham, and two
esters, Miss Emily Holloway of town
and Mrs. Robert Campbell of Fern-
berry. One eon Lionel Craik prede-
ased her.

The Gorrie Community Club met on
Monday evening for their annual meet-
ing, in the Orange Hall. Rev. J. C.
Caley took the chair for the election
of officers. President H, J. Parrish
expressed his desire to be relieved of
