Perhaps the finest reports ever given
at an annual meeting of St, Andrew's
Presbyterian Church were presented
on Friday evening for 1947. Encour-
aging reports were given and the ser-
vices during the year had been well
attended,
The meeting opened with devotional
exercises by the minister, Rev. Alex
Nimmo, after which R. H. Liloyd was
appointed chairman, and W. H. Haney,
secretary, for the business part of the
meeting. The financial statement show-
ed receipts of $11289.62 in the general
fund, and $1633.71 in the Budget ac-
count. Out of the general fund $2500,00
of Canadian Government Bonds were
purchased, leaving a cash balance of
over $700,00.
Each Society of the church reported
a year of activity. Those reporting and
amounts raised were: Happy Gleaner's
Mission Band, $55.75; Woman's Mis-
sionary Society, $592.40; Goforth Ev-
ening Auxiliary, $176.36; Ladies Aid,
$729.67; Sunday School $305.70; Ad-
vance for Christ and Peace Thank-
offering, $529.01.
Hearty votes of thanks were tender-
ed Rev. Mr. Nimmo for his untiring
efforts and,devotion to the church, to
Mr, Harold V. Pym and members of
the choir for their loyal support. In
appreciation the salaries were raised
$200 and $100 respectively.
The new members appointed to the
managing board, for a term of three
years were; H. L. Sherbondy, A. M.
Peebles, C. Deans, M. Somers, Geo,
Day. Auditors, Mrs. Geo. R. Scott and
Mrs. G. Godkin.
A vote of appreciation was passed
and ordered sent to CKNX for the
facilities of the station in broadcasting
the evening service for sick. and shut-
ins.
Following the business period a soc-
ial hour was enjoyed when lunch was
served.

The, Masked Acrobatic Skater and
Entertainer was thoroughly enjoyed by
all his antics drawing a big hand from
the crowd.
Our old stand by's, Tory Gregg,
Cactus Mac and Mrs. MacDonald again
looked after the Judging to the satis-
faction of all.

A pleasant item of business at the
regular meeting of Wingham A. V. &
A, M. No. 286, G.R,C., on Tuesday
evening, was the presentation of a 50
year Jewell, to Won Bro. Geo, C, 01-
'ver.
Mr. Olver joined the Order in 1893,
and after serving in the different offices
of the lodge was Worshipful Master
in 1919.
Hospital Group Meets
Group 13 met on Monday evening,
February 2nd in the sewing room of
-the Wingham General Hospital. When
the sewing quota for the evening was
completed, Mrs. W, W. Arnistrong, as
hostess, served lunch,

two successful one day Bonspiele last
week, with a full entry of 12 tinks each
day. Entries were present from Mount
Forest, Littowel, Walkerton, Teesevat-
er, Gorrie, Wroxeter, Seaforth, Hare
Aston and Delmore. Two Wingham
rinks skipped by Rev, W. A Ileteroft
and Fred Elliott placed first.

The reports presented showed that the
church had completed a very prosper-
ous year. There are 290 families,. 642
members (100 of whom are non-resi-
dent,) The pastor officiated at 17 bap-
tisms, 11 marriages and 10 burials.
The church treasurer, Mrs. Morgan,
reported total receipts for the general
fund, $12,201.45 of which $2965.37 was
sent to the Missionary and Mainten-
.ance Fund; $526.50 to the Pension
Fund; $198.00 to Victoria. University
Campaign, and a balance of $200.96
carried over. Extensive improveMents
had been made to the Parsonage, and
the new heating system in the church
is almost completed. Plans are now
-under way for complete redecoration of
the inside of the church.
The Junior Congregation under the
leadership of Mrs. D. Miller meets
every Sunday. The offerings were
$29.50 and Patricia Burton had the
highest attendance.
Mrs. W. F. Ilurgnian has 70 mem-
bers in the Baby Band and collects
their contributions in ,mite boxes, The
Mission Band is under the leadership
of Mrs. T. W. Platt and meets each
month. There are two groups of Cans
adian Girls in Training led by Mrs. G.
W. Tiffin and Mrs. Sam Burton. They

CLUB ANNUAL
The Fish and Game Club of Wing-
ham held their annual meeting last

very successful year in 1947 with one
hundred and seventy-five members.
Mr. Geo. Orvis was presented with a

On Friday three thrilling basketball
games were played in the Goderich
Collegiate Institute gymnasium Al-
though the Wingham Junior and Sens

Sunday Evening Concert Postponed
To Be Held February 22nd.
The concert which was to have been
presented next Sunday evening in the
Town Hall has been postponed to Sun-
day, February 2nd, By so doing it
will be possible to present a more var-
ied programme featuring a male quar-
tette a mixed quartette and instrumen-
tal embers as well as the usual favor-
ite artists. Proceeds of the concert,
which is a Teen Town venture, will be
donated towards the new Nurses resi-
dence.

The annual meeting of St. Paul's
Ladies' Guild was held oit Thursday
afternoon, jam 29th., at the Rectoree
with a large attendance of the mem-
bers.
The year's reports of the Secretary
and Treasurer showed considerable act-
ivity and much 'work had been ac-

the Pacific. Mrs. J. Hamilton assisted Inspectors Visit High School
Mrs. Irwin then called for the pees. High School Inspectors Gray and

Several parcels of clothing were sent
for Greek Relief, Mrs. Irwin spoke

officers for 1948. Mrs. Greer first spoke
of the need for a revival of Bible Study,
as the Bible is a fortification egainst
comnitainistn. She conducted a quiz
on "Women of the I3ible." After the
service of installation she called the
new president, Mrs. J. Reavie to take
charge. Mrs. Reavie first thanked Mrs.
Irwin for her 'very willing and faithful
terviet for the past two years. Site
conducted the ;business of the
meeting, Miss P. johns presented the
cause of the Canadian Association of
Consumers.
A 'shower of parcels for 'Greece were
opened and lintel.' and a social hour
enjoyed.
Education paid a visit to Wingham last
week and met members of Wingham
High School. District Board at the
school.

' The Red Cross Organization has
elected its officers iii Wingham for

' 1948. In March the annual appeal will
be made to the people of this commun-
ity. Last year we exceeded our alloc-
ation, 1948 will unquestionably see the
fine people of this cot-limn/lily rise' to
the occasion again. Remember that the
Peace time programme of the Canad-
ian Red Cross is an active one, re-
(miring Three million dollars in 1948.
In 1947 the people of this eotrimun-
ity benefitted greatly from the fact that
in Wingham there is a Local Branch of
the Canadian Red Cross. The Hose
pital now is equipped with a "Loan
Cupboard" of necessary equipment to
look after sickness in the home, You
may use it at any time. The Wingham
Branch pays for all blood transfusions
at the Hospital. Last year the Red
Cross was a great help in relieving
conditions during the spring flood.
