The Exeter 4-iavrts moved
into a tie for third place with
the Liman Irish in, the
northern division Junior
loop this week, but a
rash of penalties in Seaforth.
Sunday afternoon prevented
them from taking a share of
second place.
The Hawks gained two ties
in their only outings of the
week, starting out with a 3-3
draw in Mitchell, Tuesday,
and coming back with an 8-8
tie in tlie Seaforth contest.
The two points left them in
a tie with the Irish with 25
points, one less than
Mitchell. The 'ravistock
Braves, who beat the Irish 6-
3 Friday„ hold down first
place with 28 points,
Friday night, the Hawks
will host Seaforth at the rec
centre in their only outing of
the week.
That will leave them with
only four more home games
and five on the road and all
but two of those games are
against the northern division
squads so they'll have their
destiny in their own hands.
Gain tie in Mitchell
The Mitchell Hawks
scored with four minutes
remaining in Tuesday's
game to gain the 3-3 tie with
Exeter in a contest that was
evenly played between the
two squads.
Mitchell opened the scor-
ing early in the contest and
Ed Willis evened the count in

The tenth annual Exeter
novice hockey tournament
proved to he very successful
with plenty of excitement
throughout.
Three of the 17 games
needed overtime and in
a five player shoot-out was
used to declare a winner.
TillsonburgHoover Univer-
sal won the 'A' cham-
pionship with three straight
victories defeating Oshawa
4.3 In overtime in the final.
Tillsonburg edged the
same Oshawa team 3-2 in
the opening game and
defeated Burlington 6.1 in
the semi-final.
Terry Geoffrey scored the
winning goal in overtime for
Tillsonburg and scored four
times against Burlington,
Strathroy Franklin elec-
tric won the 'B' title edging
the hard working Exeter
Waxers 2-1 in the final.
In their only other game
Strathroy blanked Walker-
ton 2-0,
Mohawks lose
in third period
With only ten skaters in
the lineup, the Exeter
Mohawks failed to hold onto
a 5-3 lead as they lost Mon-
day's South Huron league
game 6-5 to the Goderich
Merchants.
Goderich took a 2-1 first
period lead on goals by Rob
Standen and 1-ton Corriveau
While Tom Ryan replied for
the Mohawks on a pass from
Dave Jackson.
The Mohawks scored three
goals in the first 17 minutes
of the second period. All
came on unassisted efforts
and were fired by captain
Ken Bergman, Dave
Jackson and Wayne Parsons.
At the 11 second mark of
the third period, the Exeter
Club went ahead 5-3 as Tom
Ryan completed a three-way
combination with Luc
Gagnon and Dave Jackson.
In less than a three minute
span midway through the.
final frame, Goderich
scored three times to eke out
the victory.
Len Kulkman scored two
of the final goals for
Goderich while Rob Standen
registered the third.
The Exeter Waxers reach-
ed the 'B' final by downing
London Stoneybrook 8-7 in a
five player shoot-out after
the two teams battled to a 5-
5 tie through regulation time
and 10 minutes of sudden
death overtime.
In their second game, the
Waxers edged Listowel 1-0
scoring the only goat of the
game on the team's only
shot on the opposition net by
a deflection.
Parkhill Rader Motors
won the 'C' division chem,
pionship with three straight
shutouts.
Parkhill with Clint
McCann recording the
shutouts defeated Seaforth 3-
0, Parkhill 6 -0 and
Dorchester 1.0 in the final.

The Waxers rebounded
from a 4-1 deficit early in the
third period to send the
game into overtime at 5-5.
Robbie McLelland put the
Waxers in front at 2.18 of the
first period and then
Stoneybrook scored four un-
'answered goals in the se-.
cond and early in the third
period.
David Dalrymple, Robbie
McLelland and Alan Blom-
maert scored for the Waxers
in two minutes and eight
seconds with Tim Van Dam
parting two assists and
Steven Sillery and Alan
Blommaert one each.
Stoneybrook went ahead at
7.56 and only 14 seconds later
Robbie McLelland sent the
game into overtime on a solo
effort.
In the 1-0 Exeter win over
Listowel Robbie McLelland
got the goal at 1,52 of the
first period as the puck was
cleared into his own net by a
Listowel defender.
Alan Blornmaert con-
verted a pass from Robbie
IVIcLelland at 1.06 of the
opening period for the only
Waxers marker in the 2-1
final round loss to Strathroy,

Two of Exeter's minor
hockey teams were ousted in
tournaments over the
Christmas holiday period.
The local midgets were
dumped from the Silver
Stick in Petrolia when they
Were bombed 10-3 by
Dresden on Saturday and
then dropped a 2-1 verdict to
Lambeth in the consolation
round, Sunday.
The Sunday game was the
third of the day for the
midgets. They had played
twice in the Glencoe tourna-
ment where they were
beaten by identical 3-2
scores by Goderich and
West Lorne.
The Exeter atoms were
eliminated in two straight at
the Silver Stick tournament
in Forest, SUnday.
They were dumped 3-0 by
Kincardine and 7-3 by
Lis towel.
Scoring for Exeter in the
lois to Listowel were Jeff
Dalrymple, Jeff Rowe and
Steve Anderson. Larry
Lewis had a pair of assists
and singles were recorded
by Steve Lingard and Robbie
McKnight.

scored his second of the
night to give Mitchell the tie.
Rich Fletcher made 31
stops for the Hawks, while
Dave Fischer had 26 for
Mitchell,
The hosts picked up 12
penalties compared to the
nine assessed to Exeter.
!Neither team managed a
power play goal.
Penalties hurt
Seaforth scored seven of
their eight goals in Sunday's
game on the power play, the
last one with 15 seconds left
in the game to hold the
Hawks to an 8-8 draw.
The Hawks led 3-2 after
the first and were behind 6-5
going into the third and
dropped back by two early in
the final stanza before they
rallied with three goals in
the final six minutes to
appear to have a win.
However, Ian Doig scored
his third power play tally of
the afternoon to leave the
clubs with one point each.
Preston Dearing and
Bryan Baker had two goals
each for Exeter, with the
singles coming off the stickS
of Brian. Mercer, Dave
Couse, Brad Taylor and Pete
Tuckey,
Two of those goals were on
the power play and one came
while the. Hawks were
shorthanded.
The Hawks dominated
play in the game as Steve
Wells was called on to han-
die 39 shots, while Dan.
McClure had 60 firedinn his.
direction in the ,.:Seaferth.

penalties compared to the 15

Baker were assessed
fighting majors at the end of
the game when they joined
