Marauders win and tie

The Centralia Marauders
picked up three of a possible
four points in South, Huron
intermediate hockey league
play this week.
Thursday night, the
Marauders walloped, the
Goderich Merchants by a
score of 15-6 and .Senday
afternoon thanks to a last
Waxers out in
Silver Stick.
The Exeter Waxers were,
eliminated in two straight
games in the annual Silver
Stick novice tburnarnent
which commenced in
Parkhill, this week,
In their opener, Sunday,
the locals were clipped 1-9 by
Kincardine, The spectacular
play of Exeter net minder
Haden Tinney was a feature
of the game as Kincardine
carried the play to the locals.
Tinney was brilliant
throughout the game to keep
his mates in contention.
Exeter met Mitchell in the
first round of consolation
play and were stopped 4-0,
missing several good scoring
opportunities in a. game that
was closer than the score
may indicate.
The Waxers next test
comes in the annual novice
tournament at the rec centre
this Friday and Saturday.
Fourteen teams are entered
in the event.

Hensall Sherwoods at the
Stephen township arena.
Game time is 8:30 p.m,
In Sunday's tie with the
Buckeyes, the Marauders
were able to score two goals
in the last three minutes of
play.
The first period was even
with each team scoring one
goal.
Matt Muller , opened the
scoring for Centralia at 7:19
on a three-way combination
with Mark Cronyn and Rick
Funston and near the 15
minute mark Kim McKinnon
replied for the Buckeyes on a
pass from Gerald Weido.
Five goals were produced
in the second period with the
Buckeyes getting three of
them.
At 5:34 of the middle
frame, Mark Cronyn put the
Marauders into a temporary
lead as he converted a pass
from Rick Funston and then
the Buckeyes took control of
the scoring.
In one munute and 44
seconds the Zurich club fired
three shots into the Centralia
net.
It started at 6:11 with Kris.
Bedard banging in a pass
from Ron Rader and then
Pat Bedard completed a
three-way passing effort
with Kim McKinnon and
Greg Kirk.
• Onlyseven seconds later,
the Buckeyes were in front 4-
2 as Kiin McKinnon fired a
successful shot on a play set
up by Pat Bedard.
The Marauders bounced
back with a goal at 11:03 as
Rick Funston scored on a
pass from Mark Cronyn.
With only 23 seconds left in
the period, the Buckeyes
regained a two goal lead.

McKinnon completed a
hat trick for the afternoon as

way passing effort with Greg
Kirk and Gerald Weida.
The Zurich 5-3 lead held up
until the 16:45 mark of the
third period and a victory
seemed well within their
grasp,
Randy Somerville notched
the. first Centralia goal on a
play started by Mark Cronyn
and with only a 'minute and
nine seconds left, Blair
Hearn tied the game on an
unassisted effort,
The Buckeyes took 10' of
the 18 penalties called by
referees Brian Campbell and
Iry Ford.'
Big second period
After •Goderich led 3-2
after the first period of play,
the Marauders scored eight
times in the second period
While their opponents could
only score on one occasion.
In the first period, Randy
Somerville and Mark Cronyn
were the Centralia
marksmen with Hugh. Wilson
picking up the only assist.
The Centralia second
period scoring was well
spread around with seven
players participating.
Matt Muller was the only
Marauder to score two goals
in the, middle frame. Adding
goals in single fashion were
Rob Funston, Randy
Somerville, Mark Cronyn,
Rick Funston, Bill Hodge
and Blair Hearn.
In the third period Randy.
Somerville and Mark Cronyn
each fired two successful
shots to up their game total
to four.
The other Centralia goal in
the final 20 minutes of play
came from the stick of Blair
Hearn,
In addition to his four goal
output, Randy Somerville
also picked up four assists
for an eight point night,

The Lucan Irish continued
their winning ways with a
convincing 11-5 victory at
home over Seaforth and then -
winning on the road against
'I'hamesford.
In Wednesday's game the
Irish struck for two goals
within the first minute of
play and Seaforth was never
able to get back in the gaine.
Jeff Marshall opened the
scoring at the 22 second
mark when Hon Glenn found
him all alone in front of the
Seaforth net.
Paul Medd came back for
the Irish, 16 seconds later on
a goal similar to Marshall's.
N ewly acquired Brian
Murray passed to Medd in
front of the net, with Medd
firing a shot along the ice
past a bewildered Seaforth
netminder.
Murray who recently quit
the St. Marys Lincoins
scored the third Lucan goal
when he stole the puck off a
Seaforth defenceman in
front of net with help from
Doug Latta.
Seaforth came back with a
poWer play goal when a shot
from the point bounced off
the post, hitting Lucan
goalie Kevin Woods on the
back of the leg then trickling
into the net,
The Irish struck back less
than a minute later when
Jamie Shipley found the
range. Jeff Edwards started
the play with a pass to Paul
Wraith along the boards,
Wraith skated into the
Seaforth zone and dropped a
Pass back to Shipley. Shipley
unleashed a blistering shot
from 25 feet out that
mesmerized the Seaforth
goalie.
A minute later Doug Latta
knocked in a loose puck with
a delayed penalty being call-
ed against Seaforth. Latta's
goal gave Litcan a 5-1 lead
and was assisted by Glenn
and Keith Hartwick.
In the second period each
team scored twice with
Seaforth opening the scoring
When a shot from .the point
was deflected into the top
hand corner.
Hensall wins
two games
The Hensall Sherwoods
posted two victories this
past week in South Huron
Hockey League action.
Tuesday the Sherwoods
bested the North 'Middlesex
Mechants 7-4 and edged the
Goderich Flyers 3-2. On
Thursday Parkhill defeated
Hensall by a score of 7-2.
In their victory over the
Merchants Sunday in
Parkhill the visitors scored
three goal scores in the final
period to take the game.
The Sherwoods picked up
the firit two goals of the
game on efforts by Jamie
Caldwell and Steve Knight
but North Middlesex put four
quick goals behind Hensall
goalie Dave Holmes to take
the lead.
The second period saw
Hensall tie the game on ef-
forts by Greg Campbell and
Terry Caldwell.
The final frame saw
Knight score two for Hen-
sall with the other goal com-
ing from the stick of Lloyd
Allan.
In their win over Goderich
Dwight Consitt scored two
goals with Caldwell adding
the single counter.
Phil Petry and Dave Graf
replied for the Flyers.
In their only loss of the
week Dave Kinsman and
Ken Varley had the
Sherwoods' goals.
The game was on the
rough side with a total of 35
penalities called.

Forest Hoyds in South Huron
hockey league play Thurs-
day night at the South Huron
Rec Centre.
The Boyds scored three
-straight goals in the third
period to pull out the vic-

At the halfway mark in the
regular season of the Exeter
Legion mixed dart league,
the Evil Eyes hold down first
place with 49 points,
The Doublers are in second
spot with 46 points, the
Winkers are third with 45
and the Last Chance next
with 43 points.
The Family Affair follow
with 42 points, Itchy Niters
have 39 and the Jaams and
Outlaws are tied with 38
points. The Sassenachs have
37 points and the DR's 35,
Completing the standings
are the CB'ers 34, Scotties 33,
Shiphunters 32, Out of Space
and Rowdy Ones 31 and
Canscotts 27.

and the Mohawks roared
back to score the only two
goals of the middle session
to get back on even terms.
In the first period, Wayne
Parsons fired the first Ex-
eter goal on a pass from
Dave Jackson and Luc
Gagnon hit the mark on, a
three-way combination with
Dave Jackson and. Wayne
Parsons.
First period marksmen for
Forest were Dave Ulrich,
Rick Vanos, Jim Boyd and
Doug Ulrich.
Scoring for the Mohawks
in the second 20 minutes of
play were Dan Webb on a

Forest took 14 of the 21
penalties handed out by
referees Iry Ford and Ron
Watt, but, only one figured.

Murray came back with
two goals 40 seconds. apart,
the first on a powerplay to
give the Irish a 7-2 lead.
The first goal came when
Murray faked a 'pass across
the net to kevin Hartwick,
then lifted the puck high into
the net. Doug Latta also
assisted on the goal,
Murray then took a drop
pass from Paul Medd and
rifled a quick shot to the
glove side with Kevin
Hartwick also assisting.
Seaforth came back late in
the period on another
powerplay, finishing off a 2
on .1.
The Irish again struck ear-
ly in the final period when
Jeff Marshall blinked the
red light at the 18 second
mark with help from Keith
har twick.
Seaforth came back 5
minutes later to narrow.the
lead to 8-4 only to have
Lucan score tow goals
twenty-three seconds apart.
Kevin Hartwick converted
a pass' from brother Keith,
then Murray with his forth
or the night assisted by
Marshall increased the lead
to 10-4.
Jeff Edwards then went in
alone on a breakaway, only

Over the Holiday Season

blanket of white lies the farmer's labors of the
harvest season just past and the growing
season soon to come. Momentarily dormant,
the fruits of his labors will spring forth again
to help feed and clothe a nation and a world.
Even while his land dozes, the farmer and his
family tend live stock and prepare for yet
another year of rebirth and renewal. The
farmer's continued devotion to the land is one
of the greatest gifts each of us receives on this
or any Christmas.
