The Exeter Mohawks
dropped i - two straight
decisions this 'week in. the
South Huron intermediate
hockey league.
Thursday on home ice at
the South Huron Rec Centre,
the Mohawks lost 4.2 to the
Zurich Buckeyes and Sunday
in Forest they were on the
short end of a 7-4 score to the
Forest Boyds.
A string of unanswered
goals by the opposition
appeared to be the biggest
problem for the Mohawks in
their two most recent games.,
In Thursday night's
contest, the Zurich Buckeyes
scored four straight goals
before the Mohawks hit the
scoreboard and Sunday
Forest ended the game with
five consecutive scores to
win the game. •
The Buckeyes took a 2-0
lead in the first period on
goals by Jim Murray and
captain John Graham with
assists going to Randy
McKinnon and Ron Rader.
The only goal of the middle
frame was fired by Jeff
O'Brien of the Buckeyes on a
three-way effort with Ron
Rader and Greg Kirk.
Zurich made it 4-0 at 2 :04
of the third period when
Randy McKinnon hit the
Exeter net on a play started
by Jiln Murray and Chris
Bedard.
With only four minutes left
in the game, the Mohawks
registered their first goal. It
came on a power play as Lite
Gagnon counted on' passes.
from Ken Bergman and
Brad Daters while Greg Kirk
of the Buckeyes was off- for
tripping.
The second and final
Exeter score with only 47
seconds left was also the
result of a power play. Ken
Bergman was the marksman
and assists were credited to
Brion Penhale and. Jim
Guenther,
Each team was assessed
six minor penalties by
referees Wayne Corbett and
Brian Campbell Both
Exeter goals came on polfCrer
plays while Zurich'scores by
Jim Murray and Randy
McKinnon came with the
Mohawks playing a rim
short.
In Forest Sunday, the first
period was scoreless. The
Boyds scored two goals in
the first two minutes of the
second period and then the
Mohawks scored three times
before the period ended.
The Mohawks scored the
first goal of the third period
to go ahead 4-2 and then the
roof fell in as the Boyds
scored five times to win.
Brion • Penhale, Tom.
Ryan and Lud Gagnon
scored for the Mohawks in
the second period while Bill
Forbes counted both Forest
scores. Luc Gagnon and Dan
Webb each picked up two
assists while Randy Gilfillan
and Brion Penhale each
