MR. AND MRS. JAMES NIXON
Deborah P. Smith and James L. Nixon wire united in
marriage in a double ring ceremony at the Hansa° United
Church on December 13. Rev, Stan McDonald officiated, The
bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Waynit, Smith, Mensal!
and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Nixon, Seaforth are parents of the
groom. The maid of honour was Brenda Clement and
bridesmaids were Alice Ann Talton and Lynn Crossett. The
best man was Glenn Nixon and guests were ushered by Larry
Ritchie and Dale Baynham. The couple is residing in Lon-

was unveiled, The U.S.C.O.
is an organization that is non
racial, non sectarian and non
political.
There are three colors in
the flag; yelloW; denoting,
golden age, white, security,
and blue, true blue
Canadian. The maple leaf in
centre means satisfaction in
being a senior citizen.

preSident, was presented
with a gift by Sam Bower, on
behalf of the club, Mrs.
Bullock read a poem
"Recipe for a Happy Home",
Musical numbers were
provided by Mark and

Elford,, Douglas and David
Stephens, and Mrs, Elsie
Jory was at the piano. Mrs.
Jean Isaac gave two
readings.

2/3 é. (1/2 can) Eagle Brand Condensed Milk -
Sweetened )
1 square (1 oz.) unsweetened chocolate
1/3 tsp. salt
1/2 c,, shredded coconut
1/a tsp. vanilla-
Method :
In top of double boiler, combine milk, salt, chocolate.
Cook over rapidly boiling water, stiring until thicken-
ed. Remove from heat and stir in coconut and vanilla.
Drop by teaspoonful on well greased cookie sheet 1
inch apart. Bake at 350 deg. (moderate) oven until set
(10 to 12 minutes ). Remo'i/e at once from cookie sheet.

The Christmas meeting of
the Exeter UCW was held
December 1 in the Sunday
School room. Each lady was
greeted, with a glass of
punch and sounds of
Christmas music as they
took their places for supper.
Mrs. Dolores Shapton
welcomed all and proceeded
to inform us what hap-
pens during a 'German
Christmas.
Black Peter and St. Nick
(played by two of the UCW
members) arrived to pick
out the members who had
been good or bad through the
past year.
The ones picked who had
been bad, had to sing, recite
or dance in order to remove
their chains applied by Black
Peter, but the good ones
received t candy and nuts
from St, Nick.,
A German family,
celebrate the first four
Advent Sundays and special
menus 'are prepared for
each of these days.
Mrs. Greta Liehmann, a
neighbour of Mrs. Shapton's
was introduced as the one
who helped plan the German
meal. Mrs. Liehmann said
the grace in German and a
delicious German meal
followed./
Between courses Mrs.
Elsie Tuckey conducted the.
business. The roll call,'
"What we like best about
Christmas" was answered
by 40 members. Mrs. Mary
Fisher, thanked the ladies
who helped atLindenfield's
wedding,-everything was
delicious. Mrs. Elsie Tuckey
thanked everyone who
helped making for, another
very successful bazaar.
Coming' events are unit
meeting January 5, with
Mrs. Mary Fisher'S group in
charge. General meeting is
January 9, at 2 p.m.
Decorations for a German
Christmas were very simple,
doles, balls, pine cones
were used. A skit on the
Advent wreath and its
meaning was 'resented by
Mrs: Dolores.:-Shapton and
her group.
The Advent wreath was of
evergreen with five candles
in the• centre. Each
candle was described and
told what it means. First
candle is Promise, second is
Light, third is Love and
fourth is Hope.
We must be ready for
Christmas by the lighting of
the fourth candle. Jesus is
the Light of the World, Joy of
Christmas.
A .delicious dessert
followed. A contest How good
was your Housekeeping
today showed us how bad
some of us are, or busy
maybe.
Christmas Eve in Ger-
many is When everyone
anxiously awaits to see the
Christmas tree, it is custom
that only mother.knows for it
is her who does the
decorating.
Mrs. Gloria Martin ac-
companied on piano by Mrs.
Finkbeiner sang 0 Christ-
mas Tree. Mrs. Dorothy
Jones read the story of Silent
Night and how it came to be
played for the very first
time. Mrs. Martin sang
Silent Night in German.
A gift was given to each
lady and everyone read in
unison Luke 2: Verse 1-20. A
