Preceding the Meeting the members and three visitors sat 'Own to a hot beef dinner, served and prepared ' by the hostess, assisted, by Mrs.Glen Jameson, The meeting opened with the singing of carols, with Mrs. Elmer Summers at the piano, followed by devotions aileraVer. The roll call was answered with an in- spirational reading or verse. During the business .ses- sion, several items were dis- cussed and taken care of, also what Unit (1) was to contribute towards the Christmas dinner at the general meeting on December 9. As everyone was to take part in the program, there was a varie- ty of - Christmas stories, readings, and poems given. Unit (3) met at the Latin Quarter in. London for a dinner meeting{ Unit (4) met at the home of Mrs. Harold Hardie. Mrs. Cliff Hardie presided and opened the meeting with the singing of a hymn followed by the reading of the Christ- mas Story. (3) We need to recapture our commitment of Discipleship, to give our lives in Trust to His keeping, and to remind ourselves, that in spite of all our problemsf.God is in Control. Allison. Brown performed the ceremony of lighting the second candle in the Advent Wreath denoting "Peace". A Sunday Skeihool class presentation by `Mrs. Doreen McRobert's and Mrs. Pat Chovaricek's class, entitled "Somebody's Coming". Tak- ing the speaking parts were the folloWing pupils: Pamela Waters, Steven Nix- on, Becky Bryan, and Danny Scott. Candlelighters, Victor Roe, Teddy Mills, Jodi Urlin and Bill Fox. This was back- ed up with selections from the junior choir. At St. Thomas Anglican Church the Rev. Gregg Smith conducted the Mor- ning 'Prayer Service for the second Sunddy in Advent. Jamie Hbar performed the ceremony •of lighting the se- cond candle in the Advent Wreath signifying "Peace". The first scripture , lesson was read by Miss Bettyann Herbert and the second by Kenneth Hoar. It being Bible Sunday, Rev. Smith took his sermon from the Collect for the Se- cond Sunday in Advent. The 'Bible is a Treasure, and has become the Most widely known book in the .World, said the Rector, made by tures. The Sunday School pupils hung Christian symbOIS on a "Jesse Tree" at the front of the Church.- At the Granton Communi- ty Bible Church Pastor Glen' Fretz spoke abeut the Spirit - controlled life. He baied his message on Galations 5: 16- 26, and described the life a Christian could expect to ex- perience. Everyone in the Granton Community is invited to at- tend the Christmas Cantata and Candlelight Service to be held at Prince Andrew Public School on Sunday, December 21 at 7;30 p,m. The Medway - Euchre Club The Medway Euchre Club met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Kerr on Monday afternoon December 1. Court Valentine Christmas meeting The members of Court 'Fireman's hayride The Granton Fire Depart- ment will hold their annual hayride on December 17 at 6:30 p.m., Santa will also be visiting the yOung children. Personals Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs, Kenneth Hodgins who were honored by their fami- ly with a smorgasbord dinner at the Bavarian Inn London, on the occasion of their 45th wedding anniver- sary on Sunday, November 30. Relatives and friends were present from Exeter, London, and Dorchester. The Rev. Elwood Morden and Mrs. Morden attended the Schad-Porteous wedding at St. James-Islington United Church, Islington, Ontario on December 6. A speedy recovery is wish- ed for Robert Hardie who is recovering from surgery at home. Wishes for his recovery are extended to Ron Funston who had the misfortune to be hit in the eye with a puck, while playing hockey, and is a patient at University 'Hospital, London. Speedy recovery wishes are also extended to Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Skolly, who suf- fered injuriei from an acci- dent and are both patients in St. Joseph's Hospital, Lon- don. Play euchre The euchre party Friday night at the school was convened by Mr. '& Mrs. Evan Hodgins, Jean Miller and Charlotte Barker with six tables playing. Mrs. George Prest, Scott and Teri attended the Christmas party given by residents of the Chateau Gardens, Parkhill. Mrs. Harold Corbett who has been in South Huron • Hospital is now well enough to return to Craigholme. The ladies Guild of St. Mary's church held their Christmas meeting at the home of Mrs. Louise Sutherland. The roll call was answered with a donation to a worthy cause and a Christmas candle. Mrs. Lois Hodgins and Mrs. Sutherland conducted the worship service and plans were made for various Christmas events in the church. Mrs. Chas, McRobert presided and opened the meeting with a poem. Following a reading "Christ makes the day" Mrs. McRdbert closed the devotions with prayer. A Christmas program with everyone participating with readings, stories, and poems followed, Ali the members contributed to lunch, and ' beverages were served by the hostess. After lunch there was a gift exchange. CGIT news Following a practice for the Vesper Service, which will be held in the Granton United Church on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.. (everyone, is in- vited to this Inspirational Service) the members held a short meeting. Roll call was answered with each girl telling of a gift given , to us through God's Love, where it is found in the Bible, and giv- ing an explanation of the verse. A symbol was then added to their "Gift Tree". Mrs. Marjorie Steeper opened with a short devotional and hymn "Silent . Night" was sung followed by prayer. Mrs. :John Dyck gave a reading "Things of Christmas" Mrs, Marjorie Steeper "What is Christ- mas" and Mrs. Jack Trevithick "How far is it to' Bethlehem", Mrs Marjorie Steeper read two poems "True Christmas Spirit"' and "It happened many years ago". Miss Ruth Lewis gave a reading "Partners in Missions" , and Mrs. Steeper " My Wish for you for Christmas". Nine members answered the roll call.
