Building declines Building permits valued at $102,950 were approved during the past month by building inspector Brian Johnston, but he advised council that the year's total will be well below the record level of 1978 when the town had building valued at close to $4,000,000. He said the value of per- mits had declined almost $1,000,000 each year since then and he expected this year's total wouldbe slightly over $1,000,000. Johnston indicated he would have an annual report at the next meeting. "Hopefully things will pick up next year," he added. Included in this month's total were two new homes with a value of $78,000. There were 10 permits for residential renovations and- additions for $15,600 and five ,permits for commercial renovations valued at $8,700. There was one institutional renovation with a value of $650. Two sign permits were issued, bringing the total to 22 for the year and one temporary sign was ap- proved, bringing that total to six. Johnston said several people' were becoming familiar with the new regulations regarding temporary signs and he expected more would be in use in the future.
