The people of the Christ-
mas story and their
significance in the world of
today were recalled by Mrs,
Alma Langford of Exeter
when she spoke to the
December general meeting
of the Henson United Church
Women on Monday-
Members of Chiselhurst
UCW were invited guests at
the meeting,
Mrs. Nan Britton in-
troduced Mrs. Langford and
Mrs, Florence Slade thanked
her and presented her with a
gift,
The meeting was held in
the Church and conducted by
the UCW president Mrs,
Diane Gerstenkorn , She
opened with a poem Christ-
mas Wish and the UCW
theme song. Mrs. Audrey
• Joynt, Mrs. Helen Seane of
Unit one and Mrs. Kay Elder
conducted the devotional.
The Christmas story was
read and thoughts on ex-
'pressing the love of Christ-
mas were given.
Preceeding the general
meeting, the annual business
was held, presided over by
Mrs. Gerstenkorn, who
opened with a poem "Christ-
mas Comes". The annual
regional meeting will *be
held at Brucefield United
Church on January 25 and a '
special events day will be
held at Central United
church in Stratford on April
13, The Herisall UCW annual
meeting will be on January
21.
Committee reports were
given by Mrs. Kay Mock,
Mrs. Hilda Payne, 'Mrs,
Grace Drummond, Mrs.
Helen Scane and Mrs. Mona
Alderdice. Unit reports were
given by Mrs. Audrey Joynt,
Mrs. Joyce Pepper and Mrs.
Nan Britton. Treasurers
report was given by Mrs,
Shirley McAllister. The
budget for 1981 was
presented by Miss Mary
Goodwin,
Donations were voted to
•Seeds to Zaire, the research'
Centre, at Mitchell, family
and children's services,
Alma College, manse debt,
and the Scouts. Memorial
money received is to be used
to donate a braille hymn
book for use in the church.
The slate of officers for
1981 was presented by Rev.
Stan McDonald and Mrs.
Grace Drummond and was
accepted by the members;

The Christmas meeting of
the Hensall Women's
Institute will be held at the
United Church on Wednes-
day, December 10 at 8 p.m.
All area women are invited
to join us for this meeting.
Unit four meets
The Christmas meeting of
Unit four of the Hensall
United Church was held in
the Fellowship Hall on
Thursday with thirteen
members and one visitor
present. Rev. Stan
McDonald presided for` the
meeting in the absence of
the leader Mrs. Nan Britton.
Mrs. Dorothy Mickle was
secretary for the meeting.
Thirty-one visits were
made to the sick and shut-ins
by the group during the past
month. Mrs. Mary Roobal
,reported cards had been sent
out and Mrs. Myrtle
Sherritt, treasurer gave a
splendid financial report for
the year, Mrs. Rena
Caldwell, social convener
for the group spOlte and
thanked the ladies for their
wonderful help during the
year. "Thank you" notes
were read from Mrs. Susan
Purdy and family and' also
from her sister-in-law Mrs.
Mabel. Selves.s
The congregational
meeting will be held January
21 in the new year, The
nominations were condticted
by Rev, McDonald and all
the officers were re-elected.
Rev. McDonald had charge
of the Christmas program
reading several poems "Let
There .Be Songs", ."The
Christmas Story", "Where
Is The Star?",, "The
Shepherds 'Tale" and "A
Child at the Creche" and in
between each poem a carol
was sung with Mrs.Mickle
accompanying at the piano.
Mrs. Susan Purdy received .
the offering and it was
dedicated, She also acted a
hostess for the meeting.
Following this "The
Christmas Story" from
Luke; "The Christmas
Story" from Matthew and
the story "Out Of The Ivory
Papaces" were read with a
carol sung after each.
Carmel Church
Rev. Kenneth Knight con-
ducted service in Carmel
Presbyterian Church on Sun-
day afternoon and spoke on
"Love To Witness". Mrs.
Robert Taylor presided at
the organ and led the choir in
the service of song. The Van
Weiren sisters sang 'three
numbers. Sunday,
December 14 the Sacrament
of the Lord's Supper will be
observed. Mr. 'Ron Fleming
will be guest soloist.
Sunday, December 21 a
special service combining
the talents of the Church
School Children and the
youth group will be held at
the hour of 1:30 p.m,
A joint candlelight carol
service for the three con-
gregations will be held Sun-
days evening at Carmel
Church Hensall,
Amber Rebekah Lodge

Secret Sisters
Amber Rebekah Lodge
members held their Christ-
mas meeting on Wednesday
evening with a very good
attendance. Noble Grand
Bertha MacGregor presided
assisted by the Vice-Grand
Gladys Coleman, who gave
the report of the visiting
committee.
The treasurer gave the
financial report. A donation
was sent to the CPT com-
mittee to assist in the treats
for shut-ins, also donations
to the Family and Children's
Aid Services. Christmas
greetings were received
from DDP Verna Thomas
and sister lodges, also Depu-
ty Commander Ernie and
Olga Chipchase.
The members will attend
the lodge meeting in Clinton
January 5 when assembly
president Myrtle Patterson
makes her official visit,
Following the meeting the
entertainment committee
Vera Lemmon, Evelyn
McBeath, Beatrice Richard-
son and Edith Bell led in
carol singing with Evelyn at
the piano. Dorothy Parker
gave two readings "Medita-
tion On Decorating" and "A
Gift That Really Counts".
Hazel Corbett also gave two
readings "A Soldier" and
"White Christrhas". A gift
exchange followed when the
sisters discovered who their
"Secret Sisters" were.
Queensway staff
to entertain
The staff and residents of
Queensway •Nursing Home
are entertaining the
volunteer groups to a Christ-
mas Social on Monday,
December 15 from 2-4 p.m.
The Family Christmas
Social will be held on Sun-
day, December 14.

Legion and ladies'
auxiliary entertain
families
The Hensall Legion and
ladies' auxiliary entertained
their families at their
Christmas party on Sunday.
Films were shown any Santa
Claus arrived and presented
the children with gifts and
treats. Refreshments were
served at the doge.
,Hensall. Lodge 223,
Independent Order of
Oddfellows, under the
leadership of Noble Grand
Brother Joe Grigg, have
embarked on a very in-
dustrious program to mark
the 100th year of Odd-
fellowship in Hensall a
memorable occasion.
During the past month 12'
new members have been
initiated into Oddfellowship;
namely, James Aikenhead,
Charles Dalrymple,. Glen
Hay ter, Gerald Johnson,
Grant Jones,. Wayne Love,
Ross McBeath, Earl McNab,
Grant St. John, Robert
Taylor, Gerald Traquair and
Gerald Upshall.
The several committees
have been formed and are at
work with preparations for
many activities during the
year with the final
celebration on October 24,
1981.
Past Grand Brother Alex
McBeath, now filling the
office of District Deputy
Grand Warden for South
Huron District will be in-
stalled District Deputy
Grand Master in June and it
is hoped that the Grand
Master of Ontario will be
able to arrange his official
visit to South Huron to
coincide with the above date.
Christmas pageant
Hensall United Church
was filled on Sunday mor-
ning as the congregation
were led once again to the
manger of Bethlehem
through the annual Christ-
mas Pageant and Carol Ser-
vice. The Sunday School
students p'ortraye'd so
beautifully the night of Jesus
birth with the junior and
senior choirs adding to the
message through the word in
music. Rev. McDonald, who
produced and directed the
pageant, conducted the ser-
vice. Mrs. Nan Britton
became the grandmother of
the Kindergarten children
and told of her memories of
Christmas as the Sunday
School students acted Out the
Christmas story. The ser-
vice opened with the lighting
of the Christmas Candle by
Steven Gerstenkorn,
representing the teens of the
congregation; this was
followed by a very beautiful
and moving anthem "A
Prayer for Christmas" by
the junior choir.
Other contributions
through music by the junior
' choir were "Only A Stable"
by the junior boys section of
the choir; "Still The Night,
Holy The Night" by the
junior girls with the boys
humming as a background.
Two very moving carols, "In
Excelsis Gloria" byHenry J.
Gauntlett and "Ring, 0
Bells" based on a Bohemian
carol, and "Others" from
"Because Of Jesus
Birthday" as the congrega-
tion presented their white
gifts before the manger.
Adding to the message
through music Jim Thrower
and Peter Cook sang a duet
as the shepherds watched
their flocks in the fields "As
Lately 'They Watched" and
Pam Gackstetter sang
"Away In A Manger" as
Mary and Joseph looked on
the Baby Jesus in the
manger. The Pageant closed
with Belva Fuss singing a
very beautiful solo by
Robert J. Hughes "Thank
God For Christmas Day".
Mrs. Joyce Pepper was
pianist for the service with
Mary Moffatt on the organ
and Rev. McDonald as direc-
tor of the junior choir.
Those portraying the first
Christmas through pageant
Were Mary, Dianne
Hamilton; Joseph, Rodney
Parker; the angels, Janet
Mowatt, Susan Flynn,, Paula
Boatto and Elizabeth
Thompson. The shepherds
were John O'Brien, Michael
McGregor and Rick Topp;
the wise men were Brian
Topp, Tim Brock and Mark
McGregor.
Grace Drummond greeted
the worshippers and Brian
Beer and Glenn Slade were
the ushers for the serviee.
During the special White
Gift Offering before the
manger approximately
eleven hundred and fifty
dollars was given for the
needy children of the world.
The Bible Study Group
held at the United Church
each Tuesday morning held
their last study for this' Unit
on Tuesday, This group has
been a tremendous success
with an exceptionally large
attendance at each study as
made to the "Home Bound"
at Huronview, Girls' Hockey
Team, and Free Ice Time"
for skating for the children.
Treats will be taken to
residents of the Nursing
Home and gifts and treats to
life Members and Shut-ins.
Plans were finalized for
the Children's Christmas
Party and also plans made
for catering to banquets. An
exchange of Christmas gifts
Was followed by a delicious
lunch. Tickets are available
for the "Money Doll" . at
William's Hairstyling.
