The Darling family thank you for your support over the past quarter century! It would be difficult to estimate how many hundreds of thousands of tons of groceries have been purchased' from Darling's over the last 25 years. Fred Darling has seen his grocery and meat business grow from the small Rivers market (located in one half of the pre- sent Hopper-Hockey Furniture store) to the largest family- owned food retailing business in the county. Fred served Exeter and area shoppers from his original location from 1946 to 1959 when his growing number of customers forced him to move to his present location which was larger and allowed him_ to offer better service and selection. In 1962 Darling's opened their store in Lucan, Two years later the Exeter store was expanded to its present size. Meanwhile, business kept growing especially with the de- mand for Darling's meats and in 1969 a third store opened under the Darling sign in Huron Park. The Darling involvement in serving area residents did not stop with three stores. In 1973 an abattoir was opened in Exeter and two years, later a feed lot, located on Huron St., was purchased. In fact, meat has been a large part of the success of the Darling operation. The reputation earned for selling quality beef and pork is a point of pride for Fred. Freezer orders are filled to your specifications and are backed with a money-back guarantee. Three years ago the Lucan IGA was expanded and totally renovated to efficiently serve the large number of shoppers from that area. Although there will probably be several more chapters yet to be written in the Darling story, it's easy to, pick the main theme that has been Fred's guideline‘ for operating a successful business... "Involve the entire family to personally ensure each customer can depend on good selection, ef- ficient, friendly service and competitive prices."
