Dr. Knight was in- strumental in establishing in Zaire many of the refugees who had fled the same persecution. "Seeds for Zaire" to which the Sunday School and U.C.W. have 'been con- tributing, was one of his projects to help meet the desperate needs there. Superintendent Jim Robertson and represen- tatives from each class presented their "jugs" of pennies and Mr. Robertson explained that instead of receiving gifts for the 200th Birthday of the Sunday School they were giving a gift. Dr. Knight told the children how this project came to be saying there were no seeds in the stores for people to buy, so the Lon- don Conference United Church Women took this on as a project last year and is continuing to do so. He also showed the children and con- gregation several in- teresting articles and told of their use. After the children went to Junior Church, Dr. Knight told many things about his work in Angola and Zaire and the role of the church in education and health. "Our role has been mainly teaching the people to become self-sufficient and leaders within their com- munity", said Dr. Knight. No one had ever taught them how to feed their babies nutritionally, after weaning, thus there has been a very high mortality rate among the very young. In the evening, Dr. Knight showed most interesting slides on "People" and we could see the difference between those who enjoyed good health and those whose nutrition was so poor, their skin, instead of being shiney black, looked as though it had been rubbed with ashes, their hair was brown instead of crisp curly black, and their little tummies were protruding from malnutri- tion. The Mission and Service committee entertained Dr. 1:night and Rev, and. Mrs. Brown at a buffet supper prior to the evening service and served refreshments for a "Conversation" time following. Mr. Brown led the con- gregation in a super hymn sing to start off the service with Helen Stanley at the piano. I'm sure those pre- sent wished we could do this more often.
