(i) Dairy Herd Worker Training Program
- begins on January 19 and will operate for 10 weeks
- 17 days of practical classes at the College and 33 days of on-farm
training conducted by three selected farm-trainers
(ii) Swine Herd Worker Training Program
- begins on January 12 and will operate for 12 weeks
4 weeks of practical classes at the College and 8 weeks of on-farm
training conducted by three selected farm-trainers.
Admission Requirements: Anyone, male or female, who is at least 17
years of age, had at least a Grade 8 educa-
tion and has been out of school for at least
one year.

managed cropping systems
and 16 percent of the land is
in classes 4, 5, and 6 with
progressively more severe
limitations of crops.
There is no class 7 land in
the County. This class has no
capability for arable culture
or permanent pasture and
inventory indicates 34,490
acres of organic soils.
Mixed farming operations
have been traditional,
however, the province-wide
change to fewer farms and
larger acreage has affected
the County,
Specialized enterprises
are the, trend with • beef
feedlots fed from
homegrown corn, feeder hog
operations, farrow-to-finish
pork production units,
poultry, and an increase in
specialized cash cropping,
Popular cash crops include
grain corn, white beans,
turnips, winter wheat, as
well as sweet corn and green
peas for canning.
Acreage of white beans
has increased from 21,000
acres in 1961 to art estimated
54,000 acres in 1972.

Nine new Management of
the Farm Business courses
will be offered in the Spring
of 1981 by Ridgetown College
of Agricultural Technology
both on campus and off cam-
pus.
The courses, each of eight
or nine days duration, are
aimed at people already far-
ming who may lack suf-
ficient background to make
sound management
decisions, says Course Co-
ordinator and College

There will be reports from
the delegates to the OFA
Annual Convention, held
November 24-26 in Toronto.
They will highlight the many
issues and resolutions dealt
with at the Convention.
Anyone sharing any of these .
concerns or having new ones
the Federation should be
aware of, this is the time to
come out.

Each session is six hours
in length. "Enrolment in
each course will be limited
to 30 farmers," says
Luckham.
Five agricultural subject
areas will get course work,
including Cash Grain
Production at Delaware and
Tilbury; Farm Business
Management at Essex, St.
Thomas and Ridgetown;
Intensive Dairy Farming at
Belmont; at Watford and
Ridgetown. Registration for
all courses is at Ridgetown
College.
The emphasis of each
course will be on financial
management as well as
production technology and it
is "Our intention to provide
agricultural courses that are
of primary interest to young,
beginning farmers," says
Luckham,
Funding for the Manage-
ment of the Farm Business
Courses is being provided by
the Canada Employment
and Immigration Commis-
sion under the Canada Man-
power Training Program.
